One of the best

We own a place in the Pawley's Island area of SC that we use just for short vacations. This course is less than 10 minutes away. There are several very good golf courses close by so I always avoided Caledonia because of it's price tag.
I've played here twice now, both times for more than I like paying but both times was superb.
The course amenities are not much to rave about but the pro shop is very adequate, the staff is friendly and efficient and the course itself, great.

A Popular Course in the Area

Pinehills at Myrtlewood used to be known as "the oldest" golf course on the Grand Strand. I think that has to still be true, but now it is part of a resort so you see over-booking and slow, really slow play.
Still, the course is a solid one to play when you are in the area. The area had over 4 inches of rain in the 2 days before we played and Pinehills held up great. Especially that we were not cart path only when every course south to Pawleys Island was.
To me, the course looks pretty wild open. Avoid the water and you feel like you can score. Beware of the giant oak trees. The limbs on those trees grow magically, by feet, as your tee shot is in flight, just to give you a hindrance (challenge) on that shot into the green.

I think you may be referring to Pine Lakes, "The Granddaddy" as the oldest course in MB.

Superb Golf Course

I own a place in the Pawley's Island, SC area and have always wanted to play at Caledonia, but none of my playing partners wanted to pay the rate. A buddy from Texas flew in for a few days so I treated him to the round.
The playing conditions were sketchy because of rain. It had rained 4 inches in the past 24 hours, it rained another 1-1 1/2 inches while we played the round. We had to wait 20 minutes once for rain to stop and then drain from the green. Plus, we were cart path only (which I usually avoid like the plague), making the playing conditions tougher.
Still, Caledonia held true to its reputation as a top golf course. My 2-star rating of the course conditions is because of the rain, that day. On a dry day, the course conditions are definitely 5-star.
We played the round, I scored a 79, which is way good considering my handicap there is 14 or 15.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND and I will definitely return.

Needs Work

The greens were superb, which was a giant improvement from the last time I played Hidden Valley, about one year ago.

Still, the lack of grass in tee boxes, weeds in bunkers and the fairways all take away from this course getting anything but below average ratings. Fairways are basically hard-pan throughout the course.

I wish the course was in better shape because I live near by and would like to participate in their tournaments and special play activities. They do have a good program for that in this area.

S L O W ... and they do not care

This was our 3rd attempt to play at The Heritage. 1st attempt took us 5 3/4 hours to play 18 holes. 2nd attempt took 5 1/2 hours to play 18 holes. 3rd time, we drove off after 9 holes in 3 1/4 hours, packed our stuff in the truck and left the cart in the parking lot. NEVER AGAIN will I set a foot on The Heritage. The pace of play is beyond horrible and the people working there could care less.

S L O W ... and they do not care

If you are good with 5 1/2 hour rounds, go to it at The Heritage. If you are no good with 5 1/2 hour rounds, avoid The Heritage like the plague. The place is the Mother-Ship for the Legends resort courses and it stays over-booked all the time. Mentioning it to anyone working at the course is useless. I own a place in the Pawley's Island area and play courses all up and down the Grand Strand when there but will never play at The Heritage again.

A very good course

Randolph Oaks is on Randolph Air Force Base so it is not accessible unless you have privileges to enter the base, or are a guest of someone that can enter, and then actually play at the course.

The White tee box is 6700 yards. That is challenge enough for me at a 13.2 handicap and 62 years old.

There are plenty of holes that require accuracy. Water, bunkers, tree lines, dog legs, elevations. The course has it all.

The Pro Shop is well stocked and the people working there are very friendly. The food available is a wide range of variety and I always found it to be very good.

A private place but worth getting to

My neighbor, who is a member at this Club, invited me to play with him today. He had told me about the course before and I had looked at it on the internet and wanted to try it out.

Am I glad he invited me.

What a great course. Nothing was out-of-place. Everything was manicured and in tip top shape.

Given the opportunity, I recommend anyone that can goes and plays this course. You will not regret it.

A must play when in the area

Myself and one buddy played the course and found it to be just great. I had played it once before but didn't recall how great a course it really is. The fairways are wide and forgiving but there are plenty of trees, bunkers, water hazards and rough areas to challenge you throughout the course. The greens roll true and consistent throughout the round. The sand traps are in great shape. I cannot think of a single negative thing to comment about. I've played a lot of courses in the Pawley's Island, SC area and Willbrook Plantation is as good as any of them and there are several good ones in that area. HIGHLY RECOMMEND anyone coming to the area to put this course on your list of places to play at least one round. You will not be disappointed.
