Worth the drive

About 50 minutes away from the Tempe area, this is a very nice track in Goodyear. I don’t think it’s in the premier tier of public access courses in Phoenix, but it’s right up there in the next tier.
The course features good tee options, lots of forced Carrie’s on approach shots and a good variety of short and long par 4’s.
Well maintained with true greens.

Tough track. Slowwwwww.

Ocotillo is not your desert target course. Tons of forced carries and water.
Plenty of tourist trade and those "frozen from the winter swings" and all the water make for a very slow round. We just made it in in just less than 5 hours.
Bunkers are in tough shape as it's been rainy and, of course, few visitors bother raking.
This would be a great Country Club. Experienced golfers who know the course would make the course move well.
For a daily fee course, I would rate it in the lower tier due to the length of their rounds.
Food in the grill was adequate. Patio is relaxing and scenic.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice venue with some nice holes, but I have 14 courses I would play before Ocotillo.

Perfect place to move to!

Snowbirds! This is THE place. A breathtaking Pete Dye Signature Course in a quiet, peaceful rural location, yet 40 minutes from the Tampa airport!
You can live here and play here for a value that can’t be beat. I was stunned at the quality of the course and checked into membership and real estate close by. Holy Cow!
If you are looking for a winter retreat, this course is for you.
I doubt there’s very many values like this in the whole country!
Great course!

Very scenic and a great value on Golfnow

A beautiful track that would have been simply magnificent if the original development would have been completed. They are competing with an excess of courses and being in a remote location have to offer very low and very reasonable prices for rounds. Range balls not included in the price, though. Would have been nice of the staff to mention this before we got to the range!
The course has some very scenic, even picturesque holes. Maintenance is a factor, the sand very uneven, fairways are good, not great. Money is obviously tight. Pace of play was excellent, as no one was out there on the day we played.
For the golfnow price levels, the course is well worth the drive.
One warning, the golf carts were quite honestly the worst I've ever driven. The break sticks and you get jerked on acceleration. The cart staff showed no interest in getting a tip for cleaning clubs.

Best public course in the Louisville area

Have not played here in two years and took advantage of a Hot Deal to return. the course, no doubt helped by the wet, humid summer is in fabulous condition. It's a beautiful front nine, with extremely well spread out holes and a scenic downhill #2 par three. The back nine starts out strong, with another breathtaking downhill par three on 11, then cuts out to a developed area with somewhat average holes, but finishes strong with 17 and 18. Good test of golf, with many tee options. Recommend the whites or golds for most average golfers.
If you are in the Louisville area looking for public access golf, go here, Nevelmeade and one of the Fuzzy courses in southern Indiana.

Tough course to rate

Received a very indifferent check-in. Front 9 was very back and forth. Lots of chances to get hit with wayward balls. One guy in the foursome in front of us started playing the wrong green on the third hole. One of my playing partners slammed a ball right at the foursome in front of us on the 192 yard par three. Good thing they were paying attention.
Twice we had balls come into our fairway shoulder high from wayward drives.
The back nine is much more playable and scenic.
10th hole is a little funky, but I thought it had personality. However, our round was pretty much ruined by the pace of play. Why a course allows one foursome to totally back up their course is always amazing to me. Twice I just laid down in my cart for about 5 minutes while waiting for them. We had a twosome of ladies and another foursome of guys bunched up behind us on every single hole. We completed the round just shy of 5 hours.
I thought the course was very playable, and in good condition. The greens were nice but if they gave me a quarter for every ball mark I repaired, they would have had to pay me! Given the Hot Deal price we received, I would recommend it.

Well worth the drive

First of all, the pro shop staff was very welcoming. The weather was threatening and we received constant updates on what was headed our way and promises of assistance if weather cancelled the round. We took our time to grab a sandwich in the grill. Simple menu, but very practical and good.
Course is in great shape. Interesting layout with a good variety of shots required. We caught a break on the weather and got all 18 in.
This was my fifth time playing the course and a little local knowledge really helped the course play easier. You have to keep the ball in the short stuff! Don't expect any breaks on wayward shots. Putts roll true.
I think it's the best course to play in Southern Indiana.

Back from the dead, kind of....

The new Bermuda installed two years ago has settled in, but the excess of trees has led to many dead spots and the grass is still very uneven, leading to a lot of bad lies, even in the fairways.
Going public has brought out the tee shirt wearing, jeans crowd leading to 4 1/2 hour rounds. You are actually better playing on Saturday when most of the members still play in the AM. They know how to move along a golf course.
Cart paths are in rough shape.
Greens are still great, some of the best in the area, but are being kept slow for some reason.
It's a very good layout but with the slow play and spotty conditions, you can find much better value either at Hidden Creek, or online through Golfnow or Golf18 at Champions Pointe of Valley View.

still great, but showing some wrinkles

World Woods is scenic, peaceful and best yet, there's s not a home to be seen on the course. The Pro Shop greets you indifferently and failed to know if the White tees were rated for women. They said no, but we later found this rating online.
The course remains pristine, but the cart paths are breaking up in a lot of locations. Our afternoon tee time left us at the mercy of today's daily fee players, meaning forget the waste and trap areas from being raked or any ball marks fixed.
The greens were very bumpy, more so than just due to the play that day. There are quite a few memorable holes at Pine Bartend, but about 5-6 pretty forgettable ones also.
It's a definite recommendation, but I think it's place on the Top 100 that you can play is on jeopardy. Still, with internet rates, you can't go wrong here.

You are you g to love it or hate it!

Wow. A golf course on steroids?
That's Tobacco Road.
It's an architectural marvel. A welcome break from the norm.
Oh, it's hard. Just the first hole will make you wonder. I hit two career shots and still bogeyed the hole.
Lots of undulation, lots of blind shots, lots of saying "what??"
Loved the course. If you find anything else like it, let me know!

Shop for a price!

I pity the state of the golf industry. Champions Pointe is an excellent example of wanting to be something that it just can't be. It wants to be a $75 daily fee course, but, in order to keep revenue flowing, they have to sell sub $30 rounds, such as the one I bought.
They want real golfers and advertise golf attire must be worn and that standard golf etiquette be followed, but the guys in front of us whiffed, took multiple shots out of traps, never raked, never fixed a divot or repaired a ball mark. Actually, I'm not sure anyone all day repaired a ball mark! One guy was wearing a tee shirt. And, as for letting us play through? Not a chance.
It's just sad, really.
This course could be very nice, but has been struggling with maintenance for the past three years, steadily showing more and more signs of wear. The greens are nice. Slow, but they roll true.
Seriously, though, we fixed about 10 ball marks every green while we waited in order to keep the pace of play somewhat steady.
I will say that the round moved well, but we were playing later in the day in order to get the "Hot Deal" price. As far as Southern Indiana options go, it's a good place to play. Just a shame, though, that the crowd that should be playing at Hidden Creek or Valley View or better yet, Wooded View, is out here.
There just does not seem to be enough golfers to support that $75 round and keep the place full.
I recommend the course based on it's competition, but encourage you to shop for a price. It's worth playing for $35 or less in its current condition.

Great course, wish it were private!

Otter Creek is a wonderful RTJ, Sr. layout. The course is beautiful, marred only by the public play which leaves it's greens marked up and divots all over in the fairways. It played brutally slow for us and watching the foursome ahead of us slice, top, chunk and miss led to some aggravation wile watching them hole out every putt. I definitely think this course ranks high in terms of places to play in Southern Indiana. It's well worth at least ne visit. Hopefully, you catch a day when the tee sheet isn't full!
The course design is interesting, although I prefer the North and East (Rees Jones design) and the greens are severely undulating. If this was a private course, it would be magnificent.

Excuse the reviews!

This is a championship course which lost it"s fairways due to the Polar Vortex this year, which was very harsh on Bermuda grass.
However, it's a great layout with excellent greens, probably the best greens in the Louisville area short of Valhalla.
Most reviewers here couldn't tell a good course from a bad one, and think that $25 is expensive for a golf course.
Well, this is a $60 course that you can play for $25 because of the fairways, which are now growing in quite nicely. The staff is friendly, the pace of play fantastic and the clubhouse, while nothing special, offers all the basics well.
I would recommend this Club highly at the low rates it is being offered at. When the fairways come back in, the price will be at lease double.
Also, if you are a walker, this is a great layout for you. Easy to get to the tee boxes from the greens. There are also very few homes on the course. Your biggest obstacle will be the mature trees that you will need to strategize your way through if you hit an errant shot.

Phenomenal golf

Longaberger is ranked #55 in the Golf Magazine's Top 100 that you can play. I've played 30 of the Top 100 and I can say, without a doubt, that it's the best value of any course that I've played. It's a great design, with the course meandering over a beautiful countryside. Most times it seems that you are the only people on the course. No homes to be seen, no holes going out and coming back at you, just pristine golf in a challenging yet fair golf course. There is so little downside here. A staff that needs a refresher course in service, too many golfers that don't understand the concept of fixing a divot or a ball mark, but that's a challenge for any resort course. For overall value you are playing a $180+ caliber course for much less. I have to say that most holes are as beautiful looking back from the green as they are from the tee box. We visit every year and am already looking forward to next year. Just a marvelous course!

OK at a special rate

Odd winding entrance leads you to the valet area. They are eager to accept tips here, but not looking to provide much service. The range is poorly located to the course. Allow yourself extra time. Course shows wear and tear. We played at a golfnow rate of $69. That was fair value. At rates of more than $110- no way. Course has more interesting holes than weak ones. Out of all the courses that we played in the Tampa area, this was by far the least liked. World Woods blows this away in every facet! This is a decent play at a good price, not a must play.
