Played On 09/03/2023Mega-Tough: Only for the Strong and Adventurous
Toughest course ever played: So many blind shots, uber-raised greens so only see top of flag, zillions of sand traps with compacted sand too hard to hit out of, trees often blocking your shot, up and down hills, and wind of course. But beautiful otherwise. Just prepare to be humbled golf-wise.
Also no water available on back nine and no drink service

Played On 10/12/2022Beautiful but …
Picturesque and challenging course, but problematic on my one pet peeve. The tee boxes often seemed to undulate badly and some had rough type grass..So on a course where accuracy of the tee mattered, it was unfair to have to deal with that and it would seem easy to fix.
Thank you for your review. We will pass along your positive experience and feedback to our team at Oakcreek Country Club. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Golf Summerlin - Palm Valley Course
Played On 08/26/2022Quit after 15 due to waiting and snail's pace on hot day
On back 9, a foursome 3 or 4 groups ahead played so slow that they fell at least a full par 5 behind, maybe more. Course office could monitor this by GPS but did nothing about it. Was waiting on every back 9 tee and discovered this gap when quit and took cart in and complained to golf shop worker. The slow group was oblivious.
Pace on front was OK
Tees need to be flatter.
Players need to fix ball marks on green, as these could have been better but minefield often.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback as we will use your review to better the experience going forward. We hope you give us another try in the near future!
Golf Summerlin - Highland Falls Course
Played On 02/02/2021Diabolical pin placements on rock hard greens
Course could be more fair, but when you have elevated greens that don’t hold even high shots and you put the pins on front edge and maybe just behind bunkers or in other impossibly sadistic spots, then you have succeeded in ruining the experience. Congrats on that apparent effort. But on the good side, you rarely have to repair your ball mark because they are so hard.
Hello, Lawby. Thank you for the feedback. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars. Our weather has been colder and it has affected certain parts of the course. We hope you’ll bear with us during these winter months and give us another try in the near future. Thanks again for the review and please consider visiting us again in the future.
Golf Summerlin - Highland Falls Course
Played On 09/16/2020No if cartpath only
It was cartpath only and we followed it. Advise against that because greens way too slow and grueling to walk so much.
Had we been able to play as a twosome it would have been bearable, but they instead waited until the prior group was about a mile and three shots ahead and then made us tee off with two strangers. So it Really dragged.
Why do golf courses seem to want to act like cruise directors and match people up WHEN NOT NECESSARY and especially when cartpath only.
Desert Willow Golf Course
Played On 07/17/2020Course Rims the Cup
About half the blue tees looked like a war zone, uneven, chopped up, etc. Ninth Green is ridiculously slanted to make a tough hole near impossible in wind. Also some of yardage markers seemed off.
But generally very good value for an executive course
Hi Lawby. Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Desert Willow Golf Course.

On the one hand, a very good value for locals with 1pm tee time and we finished today. BUT, I have never seen such poorly maintained Tee Boxes that I can recall. While rest of course seemed pretty decent,, the grass on the tee boxes was approaching grass in rough. Very strange, and maybe they will cut it tomorrow.. Also, don't like what seems to be common in many courses: undulating tee boxes so you are trying to drive or hit an iron on a par 3 off the tee with a side-hilll like. Aren't they supposed to be flat or is that a thing of the past as it seems to be in so many courses.
Desert Willow Golf Course
Played On 08/03/2018Okay, but
a decent executive type course, but why can't tee boxes be flat anymore? Thiey all seem to be undulating and this course was that way from almost every blue tee we played. One should not have to hunt for a flat space on a tee box but that seems to be a long forgotten hope in golf courses.
Golf Summerlin - Highland Falls Course
Played On 01/30/2018Does a golfer decide where the Pins go and take into consideration the course conditions???
The experience of playing this course could be improved in my opinion (and my partner's) if the person who places the pins actually keeps in mind that many of the greens seem to be rock hard and don't hold a shot. Therefore, if it's an elevated green as they almost all are and you put the pin within about 10 feet of the front, how in the heck is a golfer supposed to have a fair chance of getting close. I hit 8 iron, 9 iron and even wedges that would just roll all the way to back of green and sometimes even off and into the bunkers which were almost always moist and hard packed. Some greens are so hard that shots don't even leave a ball mark. Then, on one hole 530+ yds, the pin was placed on a precipice so that if your putt goes more than three feet beyond the hole, it rolls another forty feet down instead of stopping. Seemed sadistic but not unusual. for some reason in Las Vegas, as if course superintendents are terrified of anyone having fair chance to make pars or occasional birdie.
Thank you for taking the time to leave some honest feedback. Although fast, hard greens are a common characteristic of a desert course, we certainly never want that to be something that would impact your golf experience in a negative way. We apologize for your displeasure in the pin locations and your feedback has been noted.

Even more than many other golf curses which were apparently designed in a state of fear that new golf technology would have casual golfers birdying it up, this course is absurdly trapped with yawning bunkers (including in fairways often) and elevated undulating (and often hard) greens,. Moreover, the sand is often hard-packed and the greens often don't even hold your shot if you manage to scrape yourself out of one of the bunkers, so you can easily end up in the yawning bunker on the other side of green. If you somehow, manage to stay on the green or fringe, expect ridiculous breaks in putts, such as two foot break on four footer, with the risk of tree putting or even four putting often present. . And just in case you are able to negotiate all that, several of the holes had the most sadistic pin placements to ensure no rec golfer manages to get too many pars or otherwise have fun, once again not being mindful that shot might or might not hold anyway.
Don't they want us to have fun. What's up with these pin placements on all the courses, as if preparing for a pro tournament ?

would have been enjoyable but combination of play that was slowest I've seen on any course in long time, approaching 5 3/4 hours to play. Waiting on about half my shots for group ahead to clear who themselves were waiting. etc etc.. My theory, is that, although its mostly wide open tee shots the greens are ridiculously protected by water and sand and elevated, so that recreational players just can't deal with them without lots of extra shots. Moreover, greens heavily marked up with spikes and unrepaired ball marks so that no good reason to try to line it up anyway because it will hop and bounce. Disappointed and can't maintain concentration with all the pauses, good party course I suppose
Aloha and mahalo for your kind review of The Dunes! We have recently improved all of the bunkers on the course as well as removed several trees to open up tee shots. The Dunes is a great test of golf and playing the forward tees helps with the difficulty. We look forward to seeing you soon at the Dunes!
