The Tillery Tradition Country Club
Played On 08/22/2015Great layout, but the greens are terrible!!
My friends and I made a weekend trip down to Tillery Tradition to play this course specifically. One of my friends had played it once before, over a year ago, and really enjoyed it. Are plan was to play two rounds, but needless to say once we played the first 4 holes that was out of the question. The course lay out and the tee boxes were great, as well as the bunkers. Unfortunately for them they have bent grass greens and they have lost them completely, due to the heat and the lack of rain. They did however try and place all of the pins where you at least had a clean 7 foot put. Slow greens, nice fairways and bunkers. Hopefully they can get the greens back but right now, until I read a good review about how they are back to normal and quick. I will not be making the hour and a half drive down there.
Silver Creek Plantation
Played On 07/11/2015Hidden Gem
This course was recommended to me by an employee at Mimosa Hills Country Club. I have to say it was one of the nicer courses I've played. Even with the greens being punched 2 weeks prior (they were a little furry but still rolled well) this course was in great shape. You can tell that they have a lot of pride in the course condition. Some of the bunkers were in poor shape, but just don't hit it in the bunker is what I say. The staff was friendly and the drinks were cold. Even the group behind us were members and offered great insight to one of the holes as we let them play through. My friends and I enjoyed it so much that we are playing there again this weekend. If you are an hour away definitely take a look at this course. It will be worth your time. If you've played Rock Barn Jackson course, its very similar, because Tom Jackson designed Silver Creek Plantation. Enjoy!
Cleghorn Golf & Sports Club
Played On 01/24/2015Not worth the drive
I went to this course mainly because it is halfway between Asheville and my house. My friend met me and another guy out there to play thinking that the course had gotten great reviews it must be in good shape. Come to find it was not even close. To start with the fairways were filled with crab grass and long blades of the normal fairway. The sand traps weren't even playable for the most part. Biggest disapointment was the greens. They all rolled differently. The only constant was they were slow. It felt as if they hadn't cut the greens in a couple of weeks. The course is probably worth a stop if you live within 10 minutes of the course, but DO NOT DRIVE an hour to try it out. Staff was extremely friendly and the beer specials were great.
Rocky River Golf Club at Concord
Played On 10/1/2013Good course a little pricey
Good course and in good shape. Greens rolls, and fairways are fast. There are not a lot of fairway bunkers, and the greens are super hard. Good course, but about $10 too expensive. I would definitely play it again, but only at the right price.
Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club
Played On 7/6/2013Great Value
Good set up, lots of par 3s that are challenging. Shot makers course, really can't over power it.
Tega Cay Golf Club - The Cove
Played On 5/4/2013Great deal
Greens are maintained. Can roll fast at times. Can't just rip driver from the tips every hole. A lot of different clubs will be used for tee shots. When dry fairways roll for days. Sand traps are a miss, but how many courses have perfect sand traps. Great deal for the money.
Deer Brook Golf Club
Played On 5/3/2013Hidden gem
Out in the woods of Shelby, NC there you'll find deer brook golf course. Fairways were perfect, greens were quick and responsive. Bunkers where decent not the best but definitely not the worse. You can rip it everywhere for most of the course. A few tight tee shots. Had my first eagle on #8 par 5 pitch in 3. Good but if you are in that area or just want to play some place different.
The Golf Club at Ballantyne
Played On 12/8/2012Fun, Challenging an well worth the money.
Great course! All around 3 par 5s and 3 par 3s on the back side is really unique. Greens are fast and responsive never any dead spots. In the summer they have a guy handing out cold towels. Can't beat this course, and the range is top notch.
The Ranch Golf Club
Played On 11/20/2012Crazy layout, beautiful views.
Tough course, with quick putts(very few straight putts). Greens where nice, fairways where soft and a few dead spots. If you aren't hitting it down the middle this course offers very little forgiveness for the errant shot. Some landing areas are 25 yards across. When you do score though you have a sense of accomplishment. Great course for visitors to enjoy the topography and views is San Jose.
Regent Park Golf Club
Played On 9/5/2012Good layout awful greens
For the price they charge the lay out is good but the greens where awful I mean just plain bad. Plus no water in the water coolers. Definitely not worth the price.
Rafael, thanks for your comments. They are always appreciated, even if they are not all positive. Regarding the greens being an inconsistent speed, we have Champion greens and they play differently than bent grass greens in the winter. Grain is more of a factor plus the grass is dormant. Regarding the bunkers, the sand can freeze overnight making play more difficult during the day. On the day you played, it didn't hit 40 degrees until 11 am. Regarding the fairways, our 419 bermuda grass is dormant as well, but we have begun spraying for any remaining weeds. Bottom line is that by April, our fairways, greens, and bunkers will be in excellent shape and we invite you to come back and visit us again. We're confident you will see a big difference. See you on the first tee! -- Cleghorn Plantation
