Hadn't been here in 15 years or so. The greens are well-designed but poorly maintained. Like 2 out of 5 stars, bumpy with 20-40 ball marks or larger bare spots per green. No ranger = nearly 3 hours to get through just the front 9. It was brutal. Some people left before their round was finished. Carts are 10-20 years old and show it. I'm guessing it's run by nice people but they have some serious capital needs and it's a course you'd expect to pay at most $40-45 with cart for, it's not comparable to other courses who charge $60+. Will try again in another 15 years : )

Further comments as requested: 1) I know it's new ownership so will take some time, but the course conditions are pretty rough and need obvious help. 2) Having no real food (breakfast) available before 11am was a real bummer, we had planned to eat before our round but were told it didn't open until 11:00, 3) the greens were in very good shape and rolled well, but the pin positions on some holes were brutal, lots of times multiple people walking off with angry 4-putt pickups as the pins were on brutal slopes. It's pretty easy to tell (2 'players' submitting multiple awful reviews on the same day or one day apart) that there's a disgruntled former employee or someone else with a bone to pick trying to crush the course rating, so I thought I'd provide a real review.
I've played NVH probably 400 times in the last 15 years. The holes are challenging but fair - hardly any blind shots, and the greens run fast and true. In terms of conditioning, it's frankly immaculate, on par or better than most private courses.. It is a public course - no one is going to run out to the parking lot to grab your clubs or fall all over themselves kissing your butt every minute. But the staff is friendly and wants you to have a good time. It's one of the higher priced public courses in Metro Detroit, but it's also consistently ranked in the top 10 places you can play in the tri-county area too, and for good reason. It's a great course to play.
