TPC San Antonio - Oaks Course
Played On 06/09/2019Nice course, not worth price
This course is in very nice shape, and it should be for the price you pay. The twilight rate is reasonable, but you are otherwise paying a ridiculous premium because the pros play here. The front 9 is a bit redundant, but the back 9 is interesting and nicely done. The front and back are both quite challenging with tight fairways. Golfers that struggle off the tees are in for a long day. I give this 4 stars but don't recommend to others because of the unreasonable price and the fact that you don't get the views/scenery that you get at some other courses in town (for a much better price).
La Cantera Resort - The Palmer Course
Played On 06/09/2019Stunning Views, Challenging Layout
The views on this course are truly stunning. I couldn't possibly say too many good things about the layout and conditions. Although the course was pretty wet because it had rained very, very hard the day before (and the morning of), the course drained well and was much more playable than most courses would be. The layout is very challenging and interesting, with several holes hitting 50-100 feet up and downhill. Would not miss the chance to play this again.
The Quarry Golf Course
Played On 06/09/2019Just Plain Fun
This course is a riot. The front nine has some good variety and the scenery/forced carries over ravines of the back nine are unbelievable. The conditions were also very good, particularly considering a hard rain the day before. There were a few very small patches on the greens, but the overall conditions earns this course 5 stars. The price is also completely worth the experience. Will be returning again and again.
Southwyck Golf Club
Played On 06/08/2019Not worth the price because of poor conditions
The greens are in really rough shape. Played here about a month ago and was told by staff on the phone ahead of time that the greens had improved. When we arrived to play, it was clear they hadn't. One par 3 has a hole placed off the green for unclear reasons (presumably to repair the green), but this green actually looked alright. There was no attempt by staff to make the players aware of this. It hadn't rained in a few days but the bunkers were flooded and there was otherwise no attempt to keep the bunkers in playable condition. The layout remains fun and it would be worth the price if the greens were in better shape and the bunkers (in any way) playable, but a round just isn't worth it in the current condition.
Golf Club of Houston - Tournament Course
Played On 05/23/2019Very Nice, Not Worth Price
The course is beautiful and was in good shape, but I was surprised by some patches of dead grass in the fairways, particularly because it is an expensive round. The layout was fun but also seemed a bit redundant. This would be a 4-star rating if not for the ridiculous cost. There are plenty of other courses in the area you could play for much cheaper and a similarly nice golf experience.
Westwind Golf Course
Played On 05/02/2019Fun course, good value
I grew up playing this course. The layout is interesting, with several tees going over water and many dog legs. There is little elevation change or bunkers, which takes away from some visual appeal and difficulty, but the tree-lined fairways create a challenge on every hole. The course is typically in moderately-good condition, but the value makes playing this course worth it.
