Blue/Ridge at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club
Played On 08/01/2020Great layout
We drove over an hour to play this course. Great value. The course conditions were superb for as many rounds get played on it. The greens were a bit slow but not to the point of being a problem. Fairways, tee boxes, rough and traps were well maintained. The sand in the traps was a bit course but playable without issue. While the holes don’t have a “shot maker” feel, you can be punished for not hitting the needed spots. Definitely makes you think and sometimes scramble to recover. If you haven’t played it, you need to play all three nines.
White at Gilbertsville Golf Club
Played On 07/21/2018Beat the rain
Had a noon tee time from Golf Now. The forecast was for rain starting at 1:30. Showed up an hour and a half early and asked if we could get out early. They happily let us go without any hesitation. Played Red/ Blue without any delays. Course was in very good condition. Only get rained on the last four holes. Thank you GGC. Your kind understanding has built a raving fan. I will consider playing here more often, recommend this course to anyone and always speak highly.
The Club at Twin Lakes
Played On 06/11/2018Iron Lakes
Par 4s are long and difficult while the par 5s are short and easy. Mix of par 3s that are straight forward but not easy. Rough is thick and so are the plentiful evergreens lining the front nine. Greens were okay but didn’t have much break. Course is in its best shape in years but still has draining issues in spots. Cart paths need some work. If you get a good rate it is worth every penny.
Iron Valley Golf Club
Played On 09/10/2017Almost Perfect
Drove an hour and fifteen minutes to get to the course. The clubhouse staff was friendly but not overly attentive or helpful. The young man working at the bar really seamed to have a chip on his shoulder and obviously didn't want to be bothered. The course was beautiful. The layout is a fantastic mix of challenging holes that flows into a wonderful experience. The greens were lightning fast and took a few holes to get used to the speed. The tee boxes were a little beat up but it's September and they have seen a lot of play I'm sure. Got stuck at the turn and waited a good 20 minutes for the 10th tee. The entire back nine was slow. The ranger came by several times letting us know what he was doing to try to speed things up. All in all, it is a superb course layout with very good conditioning and maintenance. Will definitely play again.
Raven's Claw Golf Club
Played On 09/02/2017First time
Have wanted to play this course for years. Never made the 45 minute drive as the course normally asks more than I'm willing to pay for golf. I got a hot deal on a holiday weekend after aerofication. Was teamed up with two great guys. Greens were inconsistent but they had just been punched. It was chilly in the upper 50s and pouring rain for the entire back nine. Normally that would be enough to make the Pope swear but my playing partners didn't seem to care. I blocked out what I could and had a very good round on a good course. Nice layout. Good conditioning. I enjoyed it enough that I may pay more next time and not be so cheap. If you haven't try Ravens Claw.
Berkleigh Golf Club
Played On 08/30/2015Challenging yet playable
The past few years the conditions have deteriorated from country club to good public. The greens are fantastic except for the unfixed ball marks ( shame on you who can't be bothered). The sand is horrible, tee boxes are poor and cart paths are bad. The fairways, rough and layout are excellent. The pace can sometimes be slow as this is not a course for the weekend hacker but is often filled with them. If you like a challenge give Berkleigh a go.
Blue at Arrowhead Golf Course
Played On 08/09/2015Not worth it
If you have played golf for more than a year or two and can break a hondo then you should have no interest in this course. The clubhouse smells like a mixture of moldy basement and dirty diapers.the lady behind the counter was obviously not interested in me or my business. Geese and their droppings are everywhere. Sand traps that had no sand but held water when it hasn't rained in weeks. The 1st hole is a par five. The second hole is also a par five. There are way to many "trick" holes like the 250 yard par 3. Number 16 and 17 are not true tests of golf. Spend your money elsewhere. Don't be fooled by any positive reviews on golf now like I was.
The Club at Twin Lakes
Played On 08/07/2015Great conditions
iron Lakes has been a staple in my course selection since I started playing golf. The course is in the best condition it has ever been in but still has plenty of shortcomings. It will never be a resort course but is a good value as a local course. Greens, fairways and rough are in great shape. The plentiful conifers lining the fairways make for some challenges. Love the water carry par 3s.
Bethlehem Golf Club - Executive Nine
Played On 07/25/2015Great condition but slow
The course was in excellent condition. Greens were fast and true. Bunkers were not great but consistent throughout the course. Fairways and rough were in good shape overall. Tees could use a bit of attention as there were broken tees and tees left in the ground making it difficult on most holes to tee off without clearing a spot first. The hot dog at the turn were the most vile waste of food like substance ever produced. The crew were turning sprinklers on and of randomly and kept driving up and down fairways with no regard for the players around them. Very little water provided on the course and we didn't see the beverage cart until the 14th hole when we were told that they were done for the day. Not acceptable for an 87* day. There were singles walking the course and carrying their bag all over and the pace of play was slow. There seemed to be a ranger driving by periodically but not doing anything about the constant wait. Overall, the quality of the care for the course has increased but the amenities, pace of play and staff suffered since I played here last.
Morgan Hill Golf Course
Played On 05/25/20143:55 to play 11 holes
This extremely difficult course with a lot of blind shots, hidden trouble and side hill greens was booking five to six minute tee times! No ranger to be seen. We watched several groups around us teeing from the tips but couldn't reach the fairways. No one policing it. We had a group in front of us that socially stood together on the green and took turns walking to their ball and putting. We played through a few groups and played 11 holes in 3:45. We waited on the tee to the par three 12 for about ten minutes and the fore some in front of us had not teed off yet. We decided we had enough and went back to the starter and he agreed that the course policies were terrible and suggested we complain to the club house. We did and got a voucher for free rounds another time. Decent of them to make the effort but I'm not sure I will ever go back, free or not.
Blue Shamrock Golf Club
Played On 05/17/2014Shamrock still amazing
I had played this course when it was private and expected that the new ownership would ride the superb conditions for a few years and let the place fall apart. I was shocked to see the money they are putting into the place. It's not done yet but you can see the vision and it's pretty cool. Go check it out for yourself but be careful. This course can humble you in a hurry.
Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club
Played On 05/03/2014Not what I expected
I had heard great things about the presidential. I had played its sister course the ambassador and didn't care for it as it was more of a narrow shot maker course. Presidential says it is more open a little longer and much newer. Had to try it. Got a great deal on golf now and headed out. The greeting was less than welcoming. Everyone had a big "hello" but didn't go out of their way. Pro shop was kind of dumpy and the attendant seemed miserable. On the counter was a big sign sayin "cart path only! No warnings given!" I understand as we had 4" of rain in the past week but explain it. Don't put a rude sign at the cash register. The layout was unremarkable. A lot of parallel holes laid out next to each other. Mounds seem to grow out of the ground for no apparent reason other than to say "I'm a modern course". The greens were remarkably fast for the amount of rain we had and they were true. Again the amount of un necessary undulation in the greens screamed of desperation to be noticed. The back nine (after the joke of a tenth hole)was just as tight if not tighter than the sister course and the mounding and undulating was not as severe. All in all, I wouldn't go back soon. Maybe more suited for some players who like to lay up at dog legs and squeeze shots through narrow shoots while dodging mounds and bunkers placed in the middle of the fairway. But for me, I like more subtle challenges that are just as difficult without being so "In Your Face"
Golden Oaks Golf Club
Played On 6/9/2013Great layout but overbooked.
The course is one of my personal favorites. Playable with subtle but real challenges. The tee boxes were a bit beat up and the sand was not in great shape (we have had some rain but raking is cheap). We got a good deal on golf now for a Sunday afternoon but apparently so did way to many other players. 5 1/2 hours later I was not enjoying the great price. I would always pay more for a course that mandates the correct tee usage and a polite ranger to keep the pace steady. Waiting 20 minutes for a tee while you watch the kids in front of you hook balls into the woods from the tips is not enjoyable.
