Oak Hills Golf Course
Played On 03/23/2019Winter maintenance ongoing, tee times are irrelevant
Not only had a group jump in on the front nine, but also had a single jump on in on a very full course on the back nine. It is not surprising the course never generated a rhythm of play. This was literally after the ranger instructed us when to tee off. Never saw the ranger again.
They also are selling unlimited golf memberships for something like $60/year over the next 3 years, I expect this course to be jampacked every weekend for the next 3 years.
Hard packed to the point where drives were running 50-100 extra yards and chipping was near impossible. Greens were all top dressed with sand, heavily, to the point you were practically putting on the beach.
It's a fun course, but a lot of blind shots, a lot of maintenance ongoing, and pace of play is an issue.
I'd tag this for midsummer when the maintenance has taken effect and for a midweek round. It's a nice little spot, just time your visit accordingly.
Hail Ridge Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2016Zero maintenance
Showed up to a locked clubhouse, which was pretty odd at noon on a Wednesday. The fairways were about an inch long and basically 99% crabgrass and weeds. Large mushrooms and flowering weeds were growing in basically every fairway. Rough was 50% bare clay spots and 50% crabgrass. I'll give them some credit that by comparison the greens were decent, probably weren't cut today or rolled, but they putted fairly. Sand traps looked like glorified cat boxes. Tee boxes were super lumpy and not leveled. Layout is pretty cool but no course map and approximately 50% of tee shots are blind. Staff wasn't rude, but don't expect a hot dog and Gatorade to take less than 10 minutes.
Honestly picked this course because it had 4 star average review but it was a massive letdown. I won't be back unless they take much betree care of the course.
Eagle Knoll Golf Club
Played On 07/05/2016Just a fantastic challenge and beautiful course
Eagle knoll is sweet.
5 sets of tees, so whatever level player should find a fun day out here.
Greens are borderline immaculate for mid Missouri standards, as ar fairways and bunkers.
Lots of clever usage of hills, ponds, and trees to guard greens. Very few blind tee shots, but the score card has a nice site map.
In general, grass is in great shape everywhere on this course, greens are challenging but fair, and you're going to love how each hole has a new feel as you traverse the hills of mid Missouri.
Carts run great, clubhouse staff is respectful and responsive, and you're about to have a great day of golf here.
My only comment is this course is not set up for any one who is not an EXTREMELY avid walker. You'll want a cart here, because there is a lot of up and down as well as meandering between holes.
This is a top notch public course. I will play every time I'm near Columbia.
