Montgomery Country Club
Played On 04/19/2015good value for the money
I've been a member for almost 3 years. The course is in fantastic condition and the greens are very challenging and fast but consistent. I frequently bring guests and they always tell me that they are amazed at how great the condition of the course always is.

Being a member of a country club I understand that when I go and play a public course that the greens may not be as pure or in as good of shape as the greens at my home course. With that being said, most of the greens on public courses that I have played have been pretty good. I played yesterday at Augustine and while the greens were bumpy and a bit damaged, that was to be expected because of the winter conditions, I get that. I had read recent reviews about Augustine and people said the greens were slow. I had no idea that they were going to be this slow though. They were the slowest that I have ever putted on and when you combine that with the fact that they were really bumpy and ball marks all over the place, it was a bit too much. Again I understand that this is a public course and all but other public courses in the area have much better greens. I liked the layout of the course very much as it was my first time there but I am not sure that I will be back, especially when the greens are so poor and so slow.

I played with a friend of mine on 1/12/14. I am a member of a country club that is run by Bill Casper, thus I had to pay only $29 for 18 and a cart along with a bucket of balls. Can't beat that. The course has some kind of bermuda blend on the fairways and because it's winter the fairway grass is dormant. There were heavy rains in the days before so it was cart path only and the course was quite wet but still playable. The greens were in really good shape considering that it's a public course and for the time of the year. I am sure that I will be back at some point considering that I live about an hour and fifteen minutes north and I come a bit south on the weekends for courses that are open during the winter. Lastly, this course is quite challenging. The first time I played it was in April of 2013 and I was a 16 handicap and I struggled to break 90. I am much better now but it can still be quite a challenge even from the white tees due to the high slope. Don't be macho and do yourself a favor and tee it forward on this course because it will make it much more enjoyable.
