Bad bad bad all around

Booked a 12:45 tee time. Showed up at about 12:05 and checked in. The guy in the pro shop was not too friendly. As I’m paying he mentions “we’re running a little behind today”. I realized it was cart path only (which would have been nice to note on the reservation GolfNow) but I figured it would be CP only due to rain anyway, so I wasn’t surprised. Pro shop says “by the time we get to your tee time, hopefully less than 30 mins behind.” It sounded like they’d run out of carts and overbooked the day. Carts trickled in and groups went out 10-15 mins apart (so I’m thinking at least evenly spread groups will keep up pace.) 12:45 comes and goes. We finally get to the tee box at 1:40. We think we’re finally off!.. and with sunset at 5:40, we might finish. No chance to play 1-18... the backup starts on the first par 3, #3, and it doesn’t stop the rest of the 9. It took a full 3 hours to finish the front 9. Backed up 1-2 groups on every tee, not just the par 3’s. Thankfully we decided to just play the front 9 again, which we were able to do in about 1:30 since everyone had cleared off the front by 4:45 when we started again. Thankfully got in a full 18, albeit the front x2.
I have played this course many times over the years and it’s no secret it’s slow pace of play. Even the cart cards say it’s a 4:30 pace. But, this was unbelievably slow.

The course was in ok shape for having just gotten so much rain. Lots of mud which was to be expected. The greens were surprisingly fast, but very inconsistent and bumpy. The layout is also kind of crummy. Holes 4 and 5 require a draw iron off the tee, hole 6 another shot requiring a big draw, and hole 8 is a blind landing zone - especially if you’re playing into the sunset!
I know you get what you pay for so I’m not expecting private club level course, but the mismanagement of the groups, timing, and carts was ridiculous. I have played plenty of $40 rounds that do a much better job of running the show smoothly. Probably won’t be back anymore. Better deals and courses out there.
