Excellent Shape Considering the Unprecedented Fall Heat Wave

I have played this course many years. I am a member of a private club and play here when there is a tournament at my club or when I am playing with my golf buddies who treat this course as their home course.

Some recent reviews have been very harsh with regards to the course conditions. As of this past weekend when I played , they are taking the necessary steps to alleviate the issues. Please.understand this course has awesome bent grass greens. As anyone vaguely knowledgeable (me) should know, Bent Grass is not very heat tolerant. The past 6-8 weeks have taken their toll. Normally this time of year the greens would be spectacular. I would hope people could have a little understanding and not be so harsh with their reviews.

This is a family owned and ran facility - they live and work here. My experience has been extremely pleasant over the years and I just want to say that I know they will get the course back in shape ASAP. And as of this past weekend it is obvious they are making very quick progress. The course is in playable condition regardless of what some of the recent reviews say.

It is a great track - no homes in the way - long distance Mountain View’s and great variety in pin choices from the tips to the whites. A genuine golf experience. A welcome break from the sometimes stuffy club environment. I have played golf with some excellent regulars over the years and have no idea where they work or any of that nonsense - just friendly people out to enjoy a good round in a beautiful environment.

Give it a try - you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful, Historic, Parkland Course in the City

I played here "by accident" after another course was unable to honor my tee-time. Boy am I glad that happened...

I have been playing golf for 35 years and have frequented some of the nicest golf areas on the planet (Hawaii, California, Florida, South Carolina, and now Scotland) and it was a privilege and honor to play here. I was paired with two longtime members and a golf pro (an American Expat from Frankfurt who had just finished attempting to qualify for the Senior Open).

I cannot overstate how friendly a welcome I received at this course. The members I played with bought me coffee at the midway house and offered me a pint at the end of the round (I sat with them and had water instead - didn't want to be tipsy driving around on the "wrong-side" of the road). They are very proud of their club and eager to share it with you.

Founded in 1735, this club is widely recognized as the oldest golf club in the world (club, not course). You would expect a stuffy old crowd here - but no - the most welcoming and enjoyable round I have ever played - on a beautifully maintained, gorgeous and very playable parkland course. The rental clubs were excellent condition newer Titleists - including AP1 irons.

If you are visiting Edinburgh and love golf, don't let the price scare you away - You must play here!

Quick round from out of town

Shockingly good course conditions for a Muni!

Little bit slow is only complaint - but that might not always be the case (really old foursome in front of us)

I could only dream that Atlanta's muni courses could be this well maintained.

Give this course a go!

Incredible transformational improvement

This course has made a 100% turnaround over the last year - it is no longer the sad forgotten sister course of the Alpharetta Athletic Club. Excellent shape and professionally managed.

I used to criticize the layout - after 15 or so rounds over the last 5 or so months - I now love it - short and playable but delightfully quirky - once you get used to it it really grows on you...other folks have expressed the same sentiment.

Okay - a tip for newbies to this course - par 5 hole number 5 is a puzzler - there appears to be no fairway off the tee and a temping hill to plow a drive into and hope for the best - don't do it! - from the blues hit a 140-150 yard iron shot as there actually is a fairway out there below where you will think you need to carry - there is no need to carry to the elevated area - then hit a 200-225 fairway wood up the hill and on down the fairway - then GO LEFT of the pine tree guarding the green - it took 10 times playing this hole to understand it...once you get it - it is playable and quite fun.

Give this course a try - the nearby Trophy Club could use the competition - I have not once waited at a tee box at this course...

Great Practice Course and Range

Good Bermuda greens - par 58 - four par 4s and the rest threes - 2.5 hour round. Excellent place to practice - probably one of the best ranges in metro Atlanta - grass tees with lots of clearly marked targets with pins and "greens" - 100 120 150 180 200 on the day I was there - great chipping area and putting green as well.

Skip out of work early and sneak in a quick round - you will not be disappointed.

Classic "scruffy" Muni in the Heart of Atlanta

There is a special place in my heart for this golf course. Decades ago when first taking up golf I did a lot of learning here.

This course is short, usually packed and slow, and many of the golfers here simply don't know how to play. It is your basic "scruffy" muni course. Quite a few millennials with their hats on backwards call this place home...

However, there are some terrific views of downtown and the greens are very playable. I genuinely love this course because of its history, location, and the memories.

If you live in Atlanta you simply have to play here at least once - it is a rite of passage. Pretty soon they are going to "fancy it up" with some sort of gentrification project turning it into 9 "nicer" holes with a museum of some sort.

Get out and play this course while you still can!

Underrated Course

I played this course on a weekday afternoon - as such I cannot comment on pace of play issues as the course was relatively empty.

The course was in excellent shape with an uncomplicated layout - greens and tee boxes were in great condition. I will say there are a lot of traps guarding the greens and fairways. The traps are in good shape - but plentiful.

I don't understand some of the negative reviews here...this is a great little public course that any average golfer should enjoy. The course is older - built around 1970 I believe - the feel is of an old style muni in the burbs. Also, I had a great homemade barbecue sandwich in the clubhouse.

All in all this is a great golf bargain on a course with an uncomplicated "classic" layout. The employees are unpretentious and very friendly. Give this place a shot...

Great Little Course

This course is well maintained with great greens and fairways.

It is a short Par 71 course and very forgiving. No horrible carries. One of the Par 3s was playing 84 yards from the whites. A bunch of easy scoring short Par 4s in the 280-340 yard range...

I have played here twice and scored well both times. The folks are nice - they have GPS and scoring on the carts.

This used to be the Marietta Country Club and has since been bought by the City and they seem to do a great job running it. It has the feel of a very old course with a simple layout. Nothing tricky here...

Very Fun - give it a try.

Not as Bad as Others Say

This is the first time I played this course.

The reviews for the course are terrible. I will say something appears to have changed.

It is now Milton Country Club and it is obvious they have made substantial improvements to the greens - there is white, very "fluffy" sand in all the bunkers and the tee boxes and fairways are in good shape...no complaints.

The layout is just plain weird - no turn - just a bathroom with a couple of vending machines. There are a few incredibly narrow fairways that great shots to navigate. The holes weirdly weave around the property and some are extremely close together.

I had a great time and will play again. Just know this is a shorter course with a tight layout - if you bring your "A" game you can score - if not - plan on being frustrated...

Favorite Public Course in Metro Atlanta

This is a family owned public course on what used to be a farm. It is very well maintained and laid out. The driving range is excellent - no mats and wide open.

Over the course of the last several months, I have played here no less than 10 times.

With the exception of the first hole (powerlines pollute the view and might come into play with an errant shot), the course is exceptional. It has many holes that resemble a classic "American Links" course - while on the back of the property the holes resemble a nice semi-mountainous course with gorgeous long range views on several holes.

The greens roll true and are not too hard or soft. The fairways are maintained nicely, and almost without exception, you get a fair lie following a decent tee shot. There is genuine, fluffy sand in most bunkers.

There are no "mickey mouse" or "throw-away" holes on this course. Every hole is a genuine golf hole - thought out and executed well. It is very playable and enjoyable to the average golfer (read me), yet it can be challenging from the tips.

I cannot emphasize enough how much I like this course. I have played many public and private courses throughout the Southeast and California. This is not a swanky place. However, it is a golfers place. The other players I have been put with are members or are repeat players and have been a joy to play with - nice guys who are pretty good golfers. You seem to see the same folks every time you go - a very good sign. The staff is very jovial and helpful.

Give this place a shot. I drive about 40 minutes from Alpharetta to play here every weekend. Have not had a bad experience thus far...

Greens Good - Fairways Concrete

For the price, this is a somewhat playable course.

The development seems to be in flux and there is some evidence of decay - tennis courts near clubhouse are abandoned. There are many lots available in the development though it appears to have been around for years.

I played here on a Saturday afternoon when I had to pick up wife from the airport in the evening. Seemed like a good idea and an adventure to find something near the airport on a Saturday afternoon when I had to head to that part of the metro anyway.

The greens are green - softish but playable. Frankly, this appears to be the only part of the course that is being maintained. The fairways are so hard that I was afraid I might damage my clubs - no grass - hard red clay - had to move the ball to a lump of weeds on most every shot. "Driving Range" is short, unmaintained and you can only use irons.

There are no rangers - caught up to a group of 6 with two kids and was unable to complete my round - made it through 14 holes if I recall...

The layout is actually quite good - surprising that it is so close to the airport. Mountainous feeling with good views - similar to something you would see in Forsyth or Cherokee counties. With the concrete fairways - my drives were awesome - one went over 300 yards with the downhill concrete fairway effect...

I hope this course makes it. It was quite slow for a beautiful spring Saturday - so I have my doubts.

The folks at the clubhouse are great.

Private Club Experience - a real treet

The course was immaculate and forgiving. Beautiful views and very nice homes to ogle at.

The course was in perfect shape when I played. Play here while you still can - it will be totally private once the clubhouse is complete. They don't allow cargo shorts if that is any indication of the atmosphere...

This course is nice enough to host a professional tournament.

Best course to lose balls in the Atlanta Area

Look - the people are nice - the greens are good. Unfortunately, the layout of this course is just terrible.

Blind shots everywhere - super hilly - good shots turn bad because of the lack of what could reasonably be expected to be called a fairway. Again, not due to lack of maintenance - just a poor piece of land to carve out a golf course.

If you play this course a lot - I suppose you could learn it's intricacies and have a good time. But if you are going out for the first time without a sherpa - this will not be that great of a round. Have a good attitude and expect to lose a lot of balls.

There are gorgeous views and the staff is top notch...

I think that your review is not fair for playing the course for the first time. The course does have a few blind shots but if you hit it straight or somewhat straight you want have any problems. Plus the fairways are extremely wide and forgiving.
