Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
Played On 09/30/2023Looking forward to coming back
I've been playing in Arizona for 15 years and never played the WigWam before. Definitely a nice surprise. The course has an older feel - mature, but very well maintained - not at all "tired" like so many of the older courses out here. We played "gold" - the longest course but played at the shorter tees (red), and it was a good length for us. Lots of staff - a starter and ranger on each of the 3 courses (red, blue, gold), plenty of help by the carts, in the club house, and in the restaurant. Cart girls were attentive. I only wish the course was a little closer to my house!
Encanto Golf Course
Played On 09/28/2019Nice Muni Course
I played this course once before a few years ago and I didn't think the conditions were good, so I was surprised at the conditions today. The greens were true, fairways all green, and overall surprisingly nice condition for the middle of Phoenix. The carts were in nice shape, but many people were walking. I would definitely bring my push cart and walk next time. The course is basically flat and if you stray off the fairways, you're almost never in trouble, but there are some well placed bunkers to help raise the difficulty, but with a slope rating of 113 or so, don't expect a big challenge. Enjoyable course and I'll be back (if it were a little closer, I would be a regular). Most of the bunkers had nice sand and by the look of the sand in the parking lot, looks like they all will by next weekend.
Foothills Golf Club
Played On 08/24/2019Looking Hopeful
They are working hard to improve the conditions here. They are planting more salt tolerant grass (paspalum?) to help with their high salinity well water, new golf carts, and overall better course conditions than I've seen in a while, especially considering the "non-soon" of 2019. The greens are still a little slow after the aeration earlier this month, and three of the greens are still under repair, but another week or two when the weather breaks, the course should be primed to bounce back nicely.
Hi, Mike. We appreciate you leaving a review and rating us. We will inform the entire team, so they know their hard work is paying off. We look forward to having you back at Foothills Golf Club!
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 06/22/2019Nice condition, Resort Feel
Great day playing golf. Resort feel, facilities all in nice shape and well run.
Terrific! We're thrilled that our course conditions met your expectations and that you enjoyed your round. We can't wait to have you back again soon for your next round with us at The Legacy!
Toka Sticks Golf Club
Played On 11/10/2018Playable and Enjoyable, we'll be back.
First time playing the course in a while, but my thoughts were "Nice Course" and "We should play here again.". The pace was a little slow, but that was probably because we were cart path only. This is a very playable, forgiving (and walkable) course. You can play from most of the areas between fairways where on many courses they have brush or desert, here they have grass and tall trees. So you do "pay" for errant shots, but usually it's easy to recover. There was no cart service that day - I think she called in sick? The food service is a walk up window and casual seating. The brat I had was good.
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 10/06/2018First timers, we'll be back
First day open after reseeding, so the greens were a little slow, but the course was well kept and well run. There's a nice driving range, putting green, and a chipping and putting green for practice. They have electric golf scooters which you can't use during cart path only golf, but look like they would be a lot of fun ($20 rental charge). The carts have a GPS and USB outlet to charge your phone., but I walked the course, which is easy as the course is basically flat. Some of the holes have some length (couple of par 5's over 500yds), but overall not intimidating and not easy - just the right amount of challenge. I've never played this course before, but was pleasantly surprised and will come back.
Poston Butte Golf Club
Played On 07/02/2016Well Maintained
We're starting to hit the heat of the summer and this course is still in great shape. On some of the courses around here, you hope to hit the rough because the fairways are hard and dry, but, the fairways all have a little bounce and the rough is what it should be. The desert areas are all well maintained with red-rock and are usually easy to get out of. The greens were fast. All in all, a very nice course that I would definitely play more often if it were closer. Our pace of play was a little slow - we were a twosome following a twosome that was a little slow (we waited on most holes).
Southern Ridge Golf Club
Played On 03/26/2016Good for cheap golf
This is a decent course but they could use some better facilities. They don't use a color or zone system for the pins, so you can't be precise with club selection (I like to pretend that I'm that good), and no color markings on the fairways either. I didn't need it because I have a GPS, but to be fair, they do have a yardage book in the pro shop.
Their driving range is pretty small and rough - I believe only about 4 stalls, but there's more room on each side to spread out. The ground is uneven and it's hard to find a good spot to practice from. The tee boxes and greens are actually in fairly nice shape. I don't remember any rough patches on any green, and the fairways weren't bad either. Lots of weeds though. The worst part of the course were the sides of the fairways - lots of ground under construction and lots of gopher holes. I guess that's the penalty for not being good enough to stay in the fairway. And if you happen to find a fairway bunker, they are all "ground under repair", so that's a plus - free drop! The greenside bunkers are in good shape with nice fluffy sand.
There was no cart girl on a Saturday morning, and they said there were only 50 golfers there that day (looked like more, so maybe they had some walk ons).
We had lunch afterwards in the clubhouse and the burgers and frys were good.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your experience with us. We hope we will see you back again!
Foothills Golf Club
Played On 03/19/2016Great course that just needs a little TLC
The Foothills is a great course with some challenging holes and some nice views. It's probably my favorite course to play, especially considering value for the money. It's also a nice course to walk (but you have to bring your own cart). The course conditions can be a little rough midsummer, but rIght now, most of the fairways are in nice shape, with some rough patches. Same with the greens - some are a little rough, but mostly good. They have had some problems with course condition because of water issues, but they are drilling a new well (courtesy of the state because the highway is taking the old well) and they are hoping the amount and quality of the water will be better. Time will tell.
Foothills Golf Club
Played On 09/07/2015Getting better
I've played this course many times before, but the conditions have been mixed with many of the fairways and even the greens having many rough patches. I played this weekend for the first time in a couple of months, and I'm happy to say the conditions are getting better. There are still a few patches here and there, but this is end of the summer and I expected it to be much worse. Looking forward to the cooler weather. The pace of play was slower than normal, but not bad, especially considering there were two groups of five ahead of us.
The Duke at Rancho El Dorado
Played On 08/29/2015Great shape, great price
The Duke is in really nice shape, in fact, we've played here the last three weekends. Fairways, greens, and tee boxes all nice. The only complaint is with some of the other golfers. Last weekend a twosome drove past us on the green to skip ahead to the next hole because they didn't want to wait (we were a threesome, and there were two slow foursomes in front of us). Very rude, and we let them know it, and then called the proshop who sent someone out to fix things (by then the rude twosome let us play through). Then this weekend we played behind a slow five-some. Again we were a three some, and they had no one in front, yet, they never let us play through. We tried to make contact, but they ignored us. The course is great - especially for the price - you just have to put up with some lack of etiquette.
Ahwatukee Country Club
Played On 07/27/2013Great Value
I've placed this course many times, but I usually don't play it in the summer when there are so many other choices at good rates. But the fairways and greens were all in great condition. The fairways are a little weedy, but trim and green, and the greens were mostly thick but fast. For $19 on golf now, I can't imagine finding anything better. ACC is not for everyone, but if you know ACC and are hesitant to play because of the condition, don't worry - they're good.
Club West Golf Club
Played On 7/13/2013Pleasantly Surprised
I didn't expect the course to be in nice shape because they closed it last summer due to watering issues, but overall the fairways and especially the greens were all in great condition. I was hesitant to play here but was "pleasantly surprised". I will definitely look to play here again soon.
Toka Sticks Golf Club
Played On 4/20/2013Great course for the money
My friends and I walked this course and the rate on Golf Now was only $30. The course is flat and they provide push carts, so if you like to walk, this is a good course to do it on. They also provide regular golf carts for a little more money. There's not a lot trouble you can get into here. The rough is very playable and there is all grass between the fairways, so if you are wide left or right, you can usually hit your way out of trouble. There are some weeds here and there, so it's not a pristine course, but otherwise well maintained. The bunkers all had nice sand and the greens were firm.
Aguila Nine Golf Course
Played On 3/29/2013Great course, especially considering the price
I was impressed with Aguila. Both my friend and I commented that we will definitely go back (despite the 40 minute drive). If you have a cart, bring your own, as the course provided ones are bare bones. The greens and fairways were almost all perfect, and any bare spots were few and far between. Overall I was most impressed with the general condition of the course, mostly because I didn't expect much from a muni course. The greens had a different type of grass than I'm used to seeing here in Phoenix, a little softer but they rolled fairly fast and true. There's also a nice driving range, putting green, and chipping green. Pace of play was a little slow, but considering it was Good Friday (lots of people off of work), it wasn't bad. And since we were walking, the slower pace worked out well. We had lunch afterwards (if you want to call beer and French fries lunch) and that was also good - $6/pitcher. So all-in-all, I'm looking forward to playing there again, and enjoyed the chance to walk and get in some much needed exercise while I play.
Thanks so much for the review. We look forward to welcoming you back to our course soon. Thanks for choosing Encanto Golf Course.
