Candler Hills Golf Club
Played On 04/08/2024Greens need work
As usual, the course was in pretty good shape. Except for the greens. Although, normally I like faster greens. These were like putting on glass. Way to fast for the average golfer. The Ocala open is over. Bring them back to more reasonable speeds. We paid $56 on a hot deal. Despite the excellent conditions. That's way too much for this course. The course normally charges 75-$90 to play there. Definitely not worth that. I guess the snowbird crowd will pay that and be satisfied, but I'm not in that group. Sometimes I think they want the general public to play there, but don't really care if they do.

C'mon people, fix the turf. This is a great course layout. You have very good facilities. The greens, tees & bunkers all good. But on nearly every hole. No grass on the fairways. It's very sparse & us golfers, have to hit on sand mostly. It's an unacceptable condition. The course seems too have plenty of golfers who play there. I come up from Ocala to play it. But I won't be back for awhile. Previously I cut it some slack, believing it would improve. But no, it's getting worse (much worse). So, to the owners of Turkey Creek. Figure out how to build a solid, dense fairways hitting surface your current turf is unacceptable.

I caught the hot deal for $55. The course was in outstanding shape, from tee to greens. The fairways were plush. Last year they got a little thin. Nice thick (dense) turf this year
though. As much as I enjoy this course. It's just not worth $50 +. I guess this time of year you can get 80-$90 to fill up the daily t-sheet. But other than being in pristine shape. The course just isn't worth the 💰. I'll be back though.

This is my third time playing. I really like the layout. Greens, tee's & bunkers are in good shape. The only problem is the thin & very sporadic turf. A lot of areas where there just isn't any grass. Yes, you can generally bump the ball to an area you could hit from. But they need to fix this one problem. And I want to mention how they do there range balls. They allow you to purchase 10 balls for a dollar. I love this, because I like to hit 10-20 balls to warm up. There system is just perfect. And you don't feel like your being gouged.

Had a great day with some friends. A good day. Everytime I play this course, I enjoy it more and more. At one time this course was pretty run down. But management is constantly making progress. And the course is showing constant improvement. And it's a good course layout. The only real complaints that I have are 2. 1st. Rakes on golf carts is the dumbest idea in golf ever. And on top of that, all your carts don't have rakes. Buy some rakes & put them in the bunkers. And lastly, spread t-times out. 6 minutes is too close.

I caught a good deal on Tee-off.com.
I was paired up with 3 very nice people who came over from the Village's. The conditions overall were very good. The fairway turf was a bit thin, but nothing unusual for this time of year. The only issue were the greens. They had some kind of unusual seedlings growing. I'm not sure what. The putts rolled okay, but slower. It was hard to judge the speed. This was my second time playing this course. And I'm sure I'll be back to play it again.

Played On 02/06/2024Fix the flags
The course continues to make progress. For the right price (less than $30), it continues to be one of my favorites 😏 But please buy some new flags for the greens. Most were leaning over so bad, it affected putting & aiming for the greens. At least buy some new clips to hold the flags in place. Some are sliding down the flag stick to the ground.

I've been away. 1st time playing the course in over 2 months. The fairways looked a little greener. Everything else was about the same. The greens were good (a bit slow). Rough & bunkers still need a lot of work. It's still the best layout in the Ocala area. But the everyday price is just not the best bang for your buck. I paid $40 to play, because I waited till the last minute to book. And I'm not upset about it, because I really enjoy playing this course. It easily could be (COULD BE!) the best public course in Ocala. Just restoring the bunkers would make an enormous difference. This time of year, 25 - $30 is a great price. $35 for last minute. And right now, anything over that, is a deal breaker.

I played this course on the 15th. Reviewed it on the 17th. Believing the $22 tee-off.com deal was good, I decided to play it again. I stand by my previous review with one exception. I criticized the bunkers as totally unplayable & left to rot. I may have been overly critical. This round I actually ended up in a few bunkers. And I took a good look at most of them. Some (not all) were playable. But just barely. Some sand, but not much. Still a mess. And still Ocala Nationals biggest issue. But the course is still worth playing for the right $$price. I'll be going back.

I moved to Ocala about 1 year ago. I always wanted to play, but sceptable due to the negative reviews & reputation. I finally decided to take up the hot deal ($22 total) and play it. Boy, was I surprised 😮. After a few holes, it was apparent that this course had one of the best layouts of any course open to the public in the Ocala area. The conditions other than the bunkers was decent. Not excellent or pristine, but ok 👌. Now, about the bunkers. Terrible! Horrible! Every bunker, totally unplayable & left to rot. I wasn't in any of them. But, I would have dropped outside & played the situation as ground under repair. As is, I wouldn't pay more than $30 to play this course. If the bunkers were playable, that number would be in the range of 40 - $45. Fix the bunkers & return the turf makeup to consistant all Bermuda Clean / spruce it up; this easily could be the best public course in Ocala. Candler Hills & Juliet Falls charge $80 & up. This course could easily be better than Candler for sure. It's a shame. One can tell, this used to be a prominent top - tier golf course. When given the chance at the right price; I'll most definitely will return.

When I moved to Ocala last November. Silver Springs Shores was one of the first courses that I played. Although I really liked the course layout. Up and down the course was a mess. After hearing many good things about how well the course was doing this year. I decided it was time to check it out. Boy, was I pleased. After only paying for a $22 hot deal. I found the course overall to be in excellent shape. The greens were outstanding. The fairways over-all were very good. The rough was so-so. And still a little too much crab grass mixed into the playing turf. But nothing obscenely disruptive. Even saw my first Ocala alligator. I'm not sure I'd pay $40 or $50 to play here. But I think if they continue to improve the course; I could get there.

Played On 09/22/2023Disappointed
First, the good. Pace was great. I had the entire course to myself. Practiced with 2 balls, and finished in 3 hours. I had a 1 p.m. t-time. Showed up early. Wasn't rushed & teed off early. Also, the bunkers were outstanding. Now, for the rest of the story. I really like the layout of the course. And I played it last November and it was in pretty decent (not pristine) shape. So I was naturally disappointed when saw the current conditions. The rough & Fairways were okay, except for the crab 🦀 grass growing rampant throughout the course. Greens had huge bad (unplayable) spots on nearly every green. For me, I'd go back once every couple of weeks just to practice. And only for the right price ($20-25). But, I couldn't recommend it for anyone else. I did speak to a employee when I returned my cart. He acknowledged the issues (which I respected). And explained reasonably how management is working to correct them. I believed him & will come back from time to time, as long as I can see improvement.

Played On 09/13/2023Would pay more
I really like the layout. I just wish the course would get past the it's just playable level. This could be such a great course if they would just bring up the quality level. One I'd be willing to pay more for. I think I paid $26. It's well worth that, but not much more, unless there's not better options that particular day.
Annbriar Golf Course
Played On 06/29/2023A little disappointed
We had nice weather on a day that was supposed to be near 100'. That being said, their was hardly any drinking water to be found on the course. Nothing on the front. And only one cooler on the back (hole 11?). When we made the turn, there was ice, but the water dispenser was not working. And the water jug was empty. Just dumb. Apparently, they hosted a junior PGA event before our T-time. These players tore up the course. Lots of deep divots. Plus unfixed ball marks on the greens. Conditions on the front side just fair. Weeds starting to mix into the rich zoisia. Back nine, much better. For the course that is supposed to be the best public course in the St Louis area, I have to say, I'm a little disappointed. They've let their standards slip. Now, about the pace of play. We played in 4 hours flat. But we had 2 different groups of 2 hit into us. Besides that. A fun day with the bud's. Caught a good price through Golfnow and had a nice lunch before the round. C'mon Annbriar. Get your title and standards back.

Played On 06/16/2023Long drive
First time playing the course. Been wanting to play for awhile. Rolling hills on a FL course, always good 👍. Layout. I really liked the layout and challenge. Course for the most part, very well conditioned. Close to and on, the green's were very slow. Probably because of all the rain 🌧 we've had lately. Too bad it was such a long drive (about 1 hour). Would play a lot more often.

Second time playing this course. Green's a bit slow (not turtle speed). But other than that, the conditions were excellent. It doesn't live up to all the hype, but for the right price (mid 40's), I'll come back as often as possible. I inquired about membership options. For a resident it's good 👍 & fair. But not very good for non-residents & seasonal. Also, I booked as a single & was paired with a great 3-some. Enjoyed the round very much.

Got paired up with a couple of good guy's. I went off early. They went off late. I paid $32 on tee-off. Com. Very fair price. I enjoy the layout. Greens, tee's fairways & bunkers, all in decent shape. Rough needs some more grass. Nice 🌞 day. All was good.

Nice 🌞 day. Paired up with a wonderful snowbirding couple from Great Britain. I booked through Tee-off for $28. Very satisfied. Probably wouldn't want to pay more than $36 on a weekday. Nice layout. Overall, the course has probably seen some better days. But the conditions were good. Everything from tee to greens really decent shape. Not pristine, but very playable. For the right price, I'll continue to play there.
