Great Course!

Yes, I am a member at this private course in Flagstaff. The other course, Canyon, usually gets all the accolades and is ranked #2 in the state. Meadow is #6. I love Meadow. I find it equally challenging to Canyon, but an errant shot is maybe not as penal. I usually score better on Meadow, but it is a true test of golf and will require every club in the bag. The holes are unique - from the first time I played, I could reconstruct the round in my head, which to me is the true test of a great course!

If you get the chance, play Meadow!

Have low expectations

And you won’t be disappointed. Pace of play was super slow when we teed off at 11:30. Called the clubhouse after it took 50 minutes to play 3 easy holes. Course is in fair shape. Bunkers are mostly dirt, not sand. Meandering layout made it interesting. No GPS in carts. Range balls of poor quality not provided with greens fee. Cart path is very uneven with large drops at the seams so prepare for some spinal trauma. Staff seemed friendly. Overall set up is for a golfer who is not very good (and there were plenty out there on Thursday, which maybe explains the poor pace of play). If the price is right, give it a shot, but expect a muni experience.

Overall a good experience, but .....

There is plenty of room for improvement. Positives first:
Great layout
Iconic setting
Staff very friendly
Course was in great shape
Had beautiful weather
Beer prices were reasonable

Negatives (keep in mind that we just paid $250 in Greens fees and an extra $25 for a Cart fee):
Driving range poorly stocked - no tees, no towel at club wash bucket
Carts were poor - cooler had no ice or water, no clubwasher on cart, no towels in cart, no GPS
No GPS and no layout card/book provided
Snack shack closed when we teed off at 0930
Worst thing - it literally took 6 hours to play!!! No marshals. We waited on every single shot!

If a few of these negatives were corrected, this would be a world class golf experience, but the lack of amenities puts it in the class of an expensive muni with a really nice tract.

Great course!

What a fun course! Great layout and routing! A true desert golf experience. Greens are hard, especially because if you've never played here, you may know the distance to the pin, but you have no clue about the undulations of the green, which are some of the most severe in AZ! Landing areas were more generous than you think from the tee, so it is visually challenging. Requires all parts of your game to be firing on all cylinders. You may not score well here, but you will have fun. I've played a LOT of desert golf courses in AZ, and this has to be one of the most picturesque.

Disappointed

I wanted to play here because it's RTJ Jr. design and I've played MANY of the golf courses in the Phx area. This was not worth the 45 minute drive nor the $85. I really wanted to like it, but the front 9 was in poor shape, especially around the greens, with about 10 varietals of grass growing, some in clumps that had not been mown in at least a week, judging from the growth of my own lawn in Phx. Greens were OK, not special. Fairways were in good shape. Other reviews spoke of how friendly everyone was - meh. Was not asked if it was my first time playing. There's no starter so we thought #10 was #1 as it's right next to the practice area, which was in pretty poor shape. Practice green was too small and congested by a number of golfers. And, you have to purchase range balls! Pretty lowbrow if you ask me when the rate is >$80.

I really enjoyed the back 9 which was totally different - in much better shape! Sort of had a Grayhawk feel to it, which was nice. Hole design is interesting and not as tight as some might have you believe.

So as much as I liked the back 9, I don't think that I'll be back again.......

Pleasant Surprise

I played here once before many years ago and had no recall of any specific holes but remembered that I didn't play particularly well. This course is tough. But much fairer than I had remembered. Fairways are super-wide; I would not want their seed or water bill! Greens are small and well protected by hills and bunkers. One of the more scenic desert courses in town for less than $100 on a Saturday. If I had to find a fault, the sand in the bunkers was sub-optimal.
