Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort
Played On 02/23/2018Best Shape ever for this course
Having played this course many times over the years, I found the current conditions to be the best I can recall. The updated clubhouse is a plus as well. We had a great time, despite the cool and windy conditions. Factoring in the price, I'm definitely coming back soon.

Played On 02/06/2018This course is still in bad shape
I used to play this course a lot back in the 90's and early 00's. Was one of the better courses in the Phoenix area. But it has been and is currently a muni quality course at best. Our group took a shot in hopes that things have turned around, but not so. The putting surfaces were good, but: the sand in the bunkers is horrible, fairways were sparsely grassed in many areas, green fringes were terrible on the back nine, etc. And 8 minute tee times = 5 hour rounds when busy. We have scratched this course of our list.
Apache Stronghold Golf Course
Played On 11/06/2015Still got a ways to go to reclaim status
This is still one of the best layouts around. There appeared to be some improvement, but the course still has a long ways to go to be considered one of the better courses in the state. We describe the course as a world class layout in third world condition. Its still very rough around the edges and numerous drainage problems. Fairways are generally good and the greens are good except for bad patches here and there. Would love to see Troon take over and provide that level of maintenance. Otherwise we'll continue to come play once every other years or so, hoping to see improved conditions. Would gladly pay much more for better conditions and would come play several times a year if so. By the way, the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Still looks like the same old course. Conditions are slightly better than past. Too much standing water in several places and still have areas that are unsightly. I was expecting a significant upgrade, but didn't see it. The clubhouse is much nicer inside, but its still the same old shell and still looks dated. Only redeeming value was the cost was reasonable. Golfnow did not indicate that it was cart path only and we would not have played if we knew that, as it translated into a much slower pace.

Best condition I have seen this course in the summer, especially the greens.
Longbow Golf Club
Played On 05/25/2014excellent course conditions
I usually stay away from Longbow due to the greens being too hard. But found the greens to be the softest I can remember, It made for a very enjoyable round.

Played On 04/04/2014Bill in the pro shop is a keeper.
Course was in acceptable condition. Bunkers need to some work, as some had some sand and others didn't. Bill in the pro shop is a one of the best in the business and owners should make sure they take good care of him. Looking forward to playing here again.

Played On 03/07/2014Tee times too close together
Great course, but with tee times at 8 minutes, course is way too crowded. Round was 5 hours on a Friday afternoon. Due to course age, many trees should be removed to make course more playable. This course used to be one of the gems, but now is feels more like a muni.
Thanks for your comments. We recognize one of our major problems is our drainage. We have had an inordinate amount of rain this fall and the course had no subsurface drainage when it was designed. We are installing drainage as fast as we can and have seen major improvement on several holes. That being said, we recognize we still need a lot more. We will continue to make improvements and hope to get our course conditions to the level the layout deserves.
