Venango Valley Inn & Golf Course
Played On 07/22/2014Excellent Overall Experience
Been playing here for years. The course gets better year after year with new additions (cart paths, sand traps, removal of trees to speed play). The course drains well after storms. Greens are large and well maintained. Tees are always in good shape. If you are going to hit in the rough, hope that it's more than 30' off the fairway as I'm sure they fertilize the first 30 feet..always thick and a challenge to get a shot out of. You can tell how popular the course is by the number of memorials throughout the course for planted trees, etc. Check out the one on Hole #13. Impressive. When you are done, the food in the restaurant or bar is excellent and not expensive. By far one of the best courses in the NW PA area.
Brabender Southwoods Golf Course
Played On 07/18/2014Nice 9 Holes
Very nice 9 hole course. Been playing for years (close to home). Large greens which are a plus compared to a lot of 9 hole courses. Greens and tee boxes are always in excellent shape, fairways are much better than years ago but no water so when it dries out, gets a little tough. Only Par 34 with 3 Par 3s. I rated as moderate difficulty but actually on the easy side of moderate which would be good for families or new golfers. Price is good..$14 for 9 with a cart.
Three minor negatives:
1. Ball washers were broken at several holes and they need a couple more.
2. They do not accept plastic...only cash which in all the years I've gone there I guess I had cash but last Monday i didn't and wasn't allowed to golf even though I offered to stop and pay the next day. Considering I golf there 20 times a summer, they should have let me but now i know. Not a biggie.
3. No Bar.
If you are new to the game or like big greens, definitely golf here. If you want a big challenge, go somewhere else.
Culbertson Hills Golf Resort
Played On 07/15/2014Not the Same Course
Played here 30+ years ago and it was an excellent course. I play here once a year now and the quality seems to be stuck in poor. Drainage is terrible. Staff not very friendly, They have a snack shack at #7/#15 and it's never open. Cost is way too much for quality. The greens are usually in fairly good shape is the only good thing I can say. And you have to play 18 unless you want to walk 2 miles back to your car. Guess there is nothing they can do about that because of the poor design. Go down the road to Venango Valley! And no sand which it used to have.

Played On 07/24/2013Was a Nice 9
Course is closed until 2015 at least due to Airport runway construction. It was a nice 9 holes with a fairly fast pace of play. I actually played in 2012 and it has been closed for over a year.
