Fox Hopyard Golf Club
Played On 04/22/2019Spring Training
Just beginning golf again in CT. now that winter is gone. Course was in decent shape considering the grass really hasn't started to grow yet. Greens were fast if you were above the hole. You couldn't really get a true roll because of recent aeration.
The Eagles Golf Club - Forest
Played On 02/28/2019Even the Forrest is wet.
Played from the white tees. Need to be careful with water on the majority of holes. Tee shots need to be accurate, long but wild will hurt you. Many holes are dog leg left. Greens rolling fast and consistent from hole to hole. Sand traps could use more sand and regular raking.
Westchase Golf Club
Played On 02/27/2019Nice Loop even when wet.
Played the morning after a rain storm the afternoon before. It was cart path only so it took longer to play a hole when your ball was opposite the cart path. Greens had drained well, putting rolled fast and consistent. Some sand traps and fairways had partial standing water. Some parts of the cart paths you had to drive through several inches of water.
The Ranch Golf Club
Played On 10/24/2018Octoberfest
Very windy day, made it feel 10 degrees cooler than it was. Fortunately the pace of play was fine and kept the blood flowing. Foliage was beautiful and the greens were fast but consistent.
Portland Golf Course
Played On 10/02/2018Disappointed
Arrived on time to find out my tee time was in the middle of a golf tournament. Curious as to why they would offer one that way. Play was slow due to tournament players in front of us. Recently aerated greens were bumpy, slow, and had damaged areas.
Timberlin Golf Club
Played On 09/17/2018Nice Time
Course was in good shape, greens rolling nice, well maintained. Pace of play a little slow on the back nine, not sure why. 19th hole great food and drinks.
Keney Park Golf Club
Played On 08/20/2018Still Needs to Improve
I hadn't played the course since it was renovated five years ago. It did improve but still has some major issues. The most annoying was that all the pin flags are yellow. There is no other designation to tell you it is front, middle, or back. They have new golf carts but for some questionable reason have no convertible cover on the back to pull down to keep your clubs dry if needed. And lastly, the redesign did not improve the drainage on many of the low spots on the course. The water collected and left a muddy mess on many holes.

The course was in great shape despite all the rain we've had this month. Greens were fast but consistent. Their new golf carts are really nice.
Fox Hopyard Golf Club
Played On 04/23/2018Putt at your own risk
The course was in good shape for spring conditions. The grass in the rough has not started to grow yet, so any off fairway hits run forever. Easy to lose a ball. Same with the grass around the green. Hit in too strong and there is no grass to slow your ball down. Putting on aerated greens with sand requires a Happy Gilmour approach of a hard slap shot to get to the hole.

I took advantage of a little better weather to play a round. The course was in good shape but due to the cold spring the grass in the rough was still dormant but the fairway has started to begin to green. Putting was a challenge because they recently aerated and sanded the greens. This made them putt extremely slow so it took the front nine to get used to really whacking your putts. Fairways were dry and drainage was good.

It's spring golf and the grass is just starting to grow. I'm trying to shake off my rust from the winter. Your tee shots don't travel that far due to the cold and the soft fairways. Everyone aerates this time of year to get the greens growing. It's frustrating when the front nine greens are scored and the back nine is perforated.
If you have to do them, be consistent for all 18 holes.
The Golf Club At Oxford Greens
Played On 11/03/2016Fast greens, slow play
The course is hilly and plays long. Even from the white tees it's 6350 yards. Interesting lay out with a nice variety of types of holes. The holes with cart path only are tough, especially if you are in the opposite of the fairway or rough. This contributes to the slow pace of play. The locals seem to accept it but I found it annoying. The greens are fast but consistent. You need to allow for more break than you normally would. If you hit the ball too firm and miss the hole, you could be 6-10 feet past it. It would be nice if they had a course guide book available to better understand how the holes play. I wish the pin flags were different colors based on their placement. The card shows four pin areas for every green. If you live east of Waterbury allow more time to get to the course. The mixmaster construction on I-84 is brutal.
Blackledge Country Club - Anderson's Glen
Played On 11/01/2016Double Bogey
It's almost the middle of November and they still haven't changed to off season rates. The greens were recently aerated and hadn't been cut in a while. It felt like putting on a hairy fairway. Don't bother playing if they still refuse to substantially cut their rates and go to real off season pricing
Sorry you were unhappy with your experience at Blackledge. Aerification of greens is a necessary evil for all courses to undergo this time of the year. Our greens were done October 18-19. After they are done they typically seem slow and hairy because as the plugs get pulled out they cause the grass to no longer be laying down uniformly. I assure you they were mowed, it just takes some time for them to heal. We started our late Fall Rates 11/7...
Mohegan Sun Golf Club
Played On 09/07/2016Bogey Golf
Hadn't played this course in over 20 years. Now that Mohegan owns it, it still hasn't improved that much. Greens on the front nine were in poor shape. At least that improved on the back nine. It was very strange that all the pins had the same color flag. I was given a cart that had no working GPS so the pin yardage was a mystery. Frustrating because many of them sloped back to front. If you were above the hole, it was impossible to lag it close. Not worth the price, Lake of Isles is a much better choice.
Norwich Golf Club
Played On 07/28/2016Nice round
Course was in good shape, some of the greens were aerated which made the putting speed inconsistent from green to green.
Wintonbury Hills Golf Course
Played On 05/20/2016Great Day
The lay out requires distance and accuracy. Greens are fast but consistent. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Nice putting green but driving range is a bit of a hike. The back nine played slower and gets backed up as groups stop to grab lunch to go before going to the 10th tee.
Fox Hopyard Golf Club
Played On 04/08/2016February in April
It was cool and cloudy, not a very crowded day. Before I started my round , they told me that the greens were just fertilized and rolling very slow. It took me about three holes to adjust to the speed. They are normally quick with a true roll. It was just a practice round for me so it didn't matter. Looking forward to going back when the greens are in better shape.

Front nine played at a good pace. Back nine had several dog-leg blind holes that slowed play dramatically.
