Mauna Lani Resort - South Course
Played On 08/15/2015Mauna Lani on my top 5 best Hawaii Courses
Spent a weekend on a golf getaway with a small group (7) of ladies from our hometown course. We flew to Waikoloa on the Big Island of Hawaii and played several courses. Our favorite of the three that we played was Mauna Lani South course.
From the time we checked in to the time we left, their staff paid great attention to all of our needs. Assisted with loading and unloading our clubs, checking us in and directing us to the tee box.
It was a hot day and the normal trade winds were nowhere to be found. Coolers on the carts and complimentary waters were a relief. The beverage cart was hard to find and by the time it came around, we were parched.
The course is very well maintained. From the tee boxes to the greens. Beautiful bunkers and very well trimmed rough. Spectacular ocean views from about 5 holes. Very nice driving range and huge practice green for putting.
Make sure to bring your camera and don’t worry about the pace of play. You’ll love every minute on the course. In fact, it should be on the top 5 list for best Hawaii Golf Courses.
Hoakalei Country Club At Ocean Pointe
Played On 08/01/2015Need a challenge, golf Hoakalei
This course has 111 bunkers. It seems like there are more but they're so strategically placed, you're bound to get into one. Bunkers are inconsistent but slowly being "redone". Some of them have fabric coming up under the sand. Sand is different in almost every bunker. The fairways are beautiful. Greens roll superb (even though I'm a terrible putter). Rough is a little dense and difficult to get out of for an average player. Not too much trouble in regards to trees or water. I play there 3 times a week and really enjoy the challenge. I feel like I can play any other course like a hero after golfing at Hoakalei. :) I always say, "Don't let the course hurt your feelings!"
They've just completed their driving range in June and it's a great place to practice if you don't have time for a full round of golf.
Staff is wonderful. They are personable and efficient. The chef is top notch. For the small trailer he has to work with, he really "dishes" out some amazing food.
There is no clubhouse but it's in the works. They have a temporary one with a small dining lanai that seems to work for now. It's quaint....and a great place to pop in for lunch or dinner when they are serving.
The pros at this course are awesome and very helpful. They don't hesitate to give a lesson or listen and answer questions.
Although this is a private club, membership is open and reasonable for purchase. If you know a member, it's fairly easy to get on to play a round for a decent fee. (by Hawaii standards)
If you're not into golf and just like to ride with your golfer (significant other) it's a beautiful course to view. The natural landscaping and wildlife is amazing to see. No need for a raincoat because it's always very sunny there. If you see members with umbrellas, it's not for the rain, its to help block out the sun.
Enjoy!
Wailea Golf Club - Emerald Course
Played On 07/21/2015Wailea Emerald Course, truly a gem!
Spent a week in July at Wailea and the weather for golf was perfect. I golfed the Wailea Emerald Course for 5 days straight and enjoyed it each time.
I believe this course is wonderful for women golfers. It’s fairways are generous, rough is easy to get out of and bunkers are minimal. Not too many hazards to ruin the golf game. However, the lava rock (A’a) areas come up once in awhile. It is so beautiful to see the black A’a in contrast with the green fairways but, once your ball sails into it, it may be lost to our Goddess Pele.
The range is perfect for practicing before your round. They also have a putting green to test your putting skills.
Bring your camera for all the photo ops. It is absolutely breathtaking. If you’re not a golfer, take advantage of coming along for the ride. The beverage cart cruises by often enough with food and beverages. Perfect Mai Tais and delicious sandwiches.
19th "Puka" aka Gannons is a wonderful place to have a cocktail and pupus after golf. Occasionally you'll see a wedding on the lanai as it's also noted to be a popular venue for tying the knot.
Pro shop has an awesome variety of golf wear. Especially for ladies (men too) looking to find the newer and more fashionable items. It's a little on the pricey side but where else can you find a cute double seahorse logo embroidered on everything.
Staff is amazing. We have been lucky to get Efran often to help us with our cart and set us up with our tee times. He can also direct you to the shower facilities that you can use after your round to "freshen up". Lockers, towels and toiletries are all complimentary with your green fees.
I've golfed at Wailea's Blue, Gold and Emerald courses. My favorite is the Emerald course by far. It's the perfect little Gem!
