Pembroke Country Club
Played On 05/30/2022It's been better
I have palyed Pembroke CC over last few years about 4 times a year. I used to think it was a great little course, well maintained, and reasonably priced. My thoughts have changed to a averga track.
Latley, the conditions have suffered. Greens were missing grass in some areas and in others full of fungus or something. They rolled true though. Rakes were missing from some bunkers so many had a high denisty of footprints and holes. Everytime in the past 2+ years, it's cart path only, which is fine if it is muddy, or just rained, but I now wonder if they ever (will) allow carts on the fairways. The last few days I have played it's been bone dry. The cart paths are beat up in some spots,
For the right money, it's still a decent track, but it' has lost some of its luster.
Acushnet River Valley Golf Course
Played On 04/21/2022Atlantic Country Club
Played On 11/07/2021A fine, Fall day on the course
The course was in excellent condition for any given time of the year, and especially for early November. Greens were outstanding, rolled true, were green, and moderately fast.
Fairways and tee boxes were also in excellent condition.
Pace was slow, a little under 5 h, but part of that was our foursome involved in "skins" game, so all puts needed to be made and we spent more than a usual amount of time looking for balls. Even so, it was a great round as temps were beautiful for a mid fall day
Would recommend the course to anyone. A mix of grip-n-rip and shot placement holes. Several holes have moderate to high elevation changes. A good mix of terrain.
Pembroke Country Club
Played On 07/07/2021Mostly Excellent Conditions - No Water
Except for 1 green, the conditions were excellent. The one green had some mud/bare/no turf spots in one of the outer sections, not near the cup. All other parts of the course were in very good to excellent condition. Even though the course was dry and not soggy, cart-path only for carts on this day.
Pleasant and friendly staff.
My only complaint is that as Covid restrictions are slowly being lifted, while other courses have started returning to normal with water stations, Pembroke has yet to to do this. Bring plenty of water if your are here on a hot day.
Pinehills Golf Club - Nicklaus Course
Played On 11/15/2020Great Conditions, even for Mid November
Excellent conditions for the whole course. Was able to play in under 4 h and beat the dark. Great GolfNow deal!
Every time I play PH, the course is in fantastic conditions. Couldn't beat the GN rate of $43 w/cart, despite it being between 45-50 deg F, but no rain
Love this place and willing to make a 50+ minute drive from Boston area to play it every once in a awhile.
Sandwich Hollows Golf Club
Played On 07/19/2020Not the best, OK
Played Sandwich Hollows previously and thought it was a pretty decent play, a deal, and had a very nice experience . Convinced my golf buddy to play on our way off of The Cape. Returned today and the experience was a not as special.
We had a late morning tee time and when we arrived and got into the cart, we were instructed to bring water as there was none on the course . When we arrived at the starter 5 minutes before our tee time, there was already a back up of three groups. There was a group on the tee box waiting to tee off, a group waiting and then us.
While waiting , the starter mentioned that no coolers were allowed on the course. I told him that we had extra frozen water due to the no water on the course and no alcohol and he could inspect if he wanted. I had a very small soft cooler that holds a 6-pack of 12 ounce cans. It was hot 84 deg + and supposed to get a little bit warmer, so I brought 3 20 ounce bottles of water frozen. The cart woman came by and also told us no coolers, which I replied it is just frozen water, and she said coolers are not allowed and made us remove it. So after removing the frozen water, we quickly dropped the cooler back at the car.
I understand the no cooler if filled with alcohol, but water, especially when they don't have cold water on the course and it's hot , is bush league if you ask me. My frozen water was warm by the 4th hole.
The other thing that added to the lesser experience, was no ranger to keep things moving. We watched many groups hit into the trees and every time spend 5+ minutes looking for it, sometimes with 2 or 3 people as groups were stacking up behind them waiting to hit. My rule of thumb, if folks are waiting to hit, 1 minute looking for your ball at most, else consider it lost and drop. No one behind you take more time. If you're concerned about losing a $4 Titleist, either get better so you're not launching it into the trees every drive or play a less expensive ball.
The course was in good/very good condition, but not spectacular . Tee Boxes and greens were in very good shape. Greens rolled true. Many fairway areas very dry. Sand in bunkers was good and predictable.
My main complaints are it took 3 h to play 9 h. Yes it was the weekend, but with carts, and a competent ranger, 2.5 h mxx and the bush league stuff about no coolers for keeping/bringing cold non-alcoholic drinks (water) cold on a very hot day, when no water is provided on the course. I left after 9 as another 3 h on the course would have put me on the road at a time that would add another 1+ hours to a 1 h 15 drive.
With some many quality places to play on the Cape for similar $, I may look elsewhere in the future. I like the course, just not this time.
Bradford Country Club
Played On 05/22/2020Difficult Course - No Groove
This is a difficult course, especially as a higher handicap player. Only a few times will you need a driver. Lots of tight/narrow landing areas and carries. Rarely are you hitting to an open extended fairway. Shot placement is critical. Unless you can control your shots well, prepare to loose balls or spend a lot of time looking for them. I found that you can't can't really get into a groove as each hole is different than the previous. Long ball hitters won't like it here. Many greens have fall offs around the fringe, so if you hit the green and just roll off the edge, you're looking at a sometimes blind uphill chip.
The front 9 has a lot of marsh carries with little forgiveness. One par 3 if you don't essentially hit the green, the ball is gone. The back 9 is very hilly and has a great deal of distance between holes in some cases. The front 9 is walkable, the back 9 only for those in great shape. I think many wouldn't be able to walk all 18.
In summary, there are two types of players for Bradford, those that will absolutely hate it because it is not forgiving and few long ball opportunities and those the will love it because it is not forgiving and requires careful shot placement.
Hello and thank you for taking the time to review the course and rate us. Please be advised that we are going to pass along your feedback to the staff so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting us!
Waverly Oaks Golf Club
Played On 08/17/2019Nice Course. One of the Better Ones in MA
Ist time playing and it was a very good experience all around. Greeting staff, pro shop staff, and starter were all extremely friendly and welcoming.
Small bucket of balls with greens fee for driving range for warm up. Thumbs up here. Practice green right next to 1st tee, which is very convenient. Practice green also has some areas of elevation changes, which is good for practicing challenging putts. Thumbs up here too.
Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in very good to excellent shape. the rough on the fridge of the fairway was a little high (5 in and thick). Balls were more difficult to get loft and distance, especially if the ball was buried. I wish it was cut about 1/2 inch or so shorter as I think that would have made it more fair.
Course has a lot of terrain and many holes require good club selection and thinking. All the holes have names, which is cool. Greens played true and somewhat fast but had subtle breaks in some directions. Challenging, but not unforgiving.
The course winds around and at holes 7 and 14 (where the front and back 9 intersect) there is a snack shack with food and drinks for purchase and bathrooms. Nice touch here.
Fairways rolled well, but it had rained recently and there were some damp/soft areas.
Course has electric carts with GPS. Plus here, but several times we were in what I thought was an okay area on or next to the fairway and the cart started buzz and go into limp mode telling us to return to the cart path. Frustrating sometimes. I don't think that the option of walking is permitted and you would be nuts if you tried with the course terrain.
Despite us going off relatively early (8:06 AM), we did 18 holes in 4 h 20 min with several minutes on many holes. Tee off times were 9 minutes apart. I will say the foursome in front of us got in the rough many times, so that may have had an influence. 4 h would be a decent pace of play for this course, with he terrain, and how it is spread out.
At $105/pp (full price at peak times) I think it is pricey. If you can play for less than $85, I think that is a very fair price and very much worth it.
The on complaint I have (minimal) was the lack of water coolers on the course. They had one I think at Hole #5, and I assume you can get water at the Snack Shack, (#7), the club house (after #9), again at the snack shack (#14) and then at #17. The problem with the clubhouse (after #9) is that you have to drive off of the course to get to it. Maybe a cooler at #11 or #10 would be better. Not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of if you play when it is hot.
OVERALL RECOMMEND as it is one of the better conditions courses in Eastern Mass and the Cape.
Thank you for a very in depth review and we are pleased that you enjoyed your first time out at Waverly Oaks. We work hard to make sure that every round is memorable for each guest and that they look forward to playing again. Hope to see you in the near future.
Granite Links Golf Club At Quarry Hills - Milton Nine
Played On 08/02/2019Great Views, Very Nice Conditions, Pricey
This was the first time playing this course. We played Granite and Quincy, each has 9 h. Both courses start high and drop in elevation and then climb back to to the clubhouse. I estimate that the difference in elevation is about 400 ft for each course.
Lots of blind shots and in few cases, a little confusing on which way they hole went even though the cart had a GPS map for each hole. Nothing here too challenging if you can hit it fairly straight. Most holes have a no trouble side. Greens and fairways were in very good to excellent condition; probably in the top 10% for conditions of all the courses that I have played.
Views of the surrounding areas, the city of Boston skyline, the harbor, etc. were outstanding. No other course in the area has such a commanding view. This is one of the draws for this place.
The staff were friendly. The cart girl was around frequently.and they had someone clean your clubs at the end of the round. Thumbs up here. Our cart had a small cooler prefilled with ice. Thumbs up here. Interactive GPS on the cart. Nice selling point.
Now the negatives. while they had plenty of water on the course, no bathroom facilities on the course. Big thumbs down from me. For a course that touts itself as one of the premier courses in the area, and charges a lot, the lack of temporary or permanent restroom facilities is 3rd tier. Most of the courses I have play have at least a Porta-Pot about halfway on the front and back 9.
We decided to get a hot dog at the turn. Thought the price of the hot dog was steep at around $4.75. In my opinion, that is excessive, but they sell, so.........
Normal greens fees with cart in season is $150/pp. With our Golfnow Hot Deal, it was $90. At that price, on the right day, I think that is a fair/good deal. I would not pay any more than that.
Bottom Line: Great views, Friendly staff, Very Good all around conditions, well maintained, challenging, yet not ridiculous difficulty, yet on the pricier side.
Bradford Country Club
Played On 06/27/2019Great Course - Challenging but fair and fun.
This is a nice course. Recommend. On the scorecard, it appears to be a short course, but plays longer and you need to be strategic about many shots on many holes or you may over hit. Hole 9 is a challenging Par 5. Back 9 are a little different than the front 9. Lots of elevation changes on the back 9. You will have to play here a few times to know where to hit. Greens and fairways were in very good to excellent conditions. Tee boxes in good condition, but in my opinion they could be better. Lots of unevenness and some bare spots. Minor "complaint" in the big picture.
There is something for everyone here. Bigger hitters, target golfers, and folks with a good short game. You will use all of your clubs.
Will be back.
Waterlefe Golf & River Club
Played On 02/19/2019Water everywhere
- Course is target golf. Shot distance and direction critical. Water comes into play on all holes.
- Staff extremely welcoming and friendly
- Course conditions very good. Greens were fast, subtle, but a little beat up.
- Real bathrooms with ice, water, and vending on mid holes in both front and back nine, There was cart service.
- Pro Shop was well stocked, but did not have sunscreen for purchase. Did have sunscreen to use though.
- Carts had GPS with yardage distances.
- Course very spread out. confusing and disorienting to me. Holes were in between housing tracks and the river.
- Pace of play fair. 4.5 h for our 4-some and we waited on a few holes. Don't plan on a sub-4 h round.
Second time around better scores.
Recommend.
Waterlefe Golf & River Club
Played On 02/19/2019Water Everywhere, Challenging
Fun, challenging course that requires very good target golf. Water comes into play on almost every hole to some degree. The second time around playing you should score better. Many shots that appear good from the tee, often roll into a water hazard or OB when you get to them. Conditions were very good, but the greens were a little beat and fast. Very subtle breaks on the greens made putting.challenging.
Course is huge and very spread out and built around a housing development and river. For me, it was very difficult to figure out where I was in relation to other holes and the club house.. Most holes are not linked and are sometimes a 1 minute cart ride through a set of house and over a bridge to arrive at the next hole.
Staff was very friendly and excellent. Starter was very friendly and personable. Greater/Bag drop were helpful and friendly as was 19th hole staff. Only negative was the the Pro Shop during our visit and no sunscreen to purchase, but did have a spray bottle that to use.
There were full bathroom facilities at hole #5 and between #13 and #14, that also had ice, water, and a soda vending machine. Beverage cart circulated but we only saw her once during our round. They may have been the only for such as spread out course.
Pace of play was 4 1/2 h for our 4-some. We waited on a few holes, but sone of this time is a result of long distances to the next hole via cart. Unless you are really good with shot placement and a low handicap, get done in under 4 h would be a challenge,
Free driving range balls with greens fee. Carts have GPS that provides various distances to hole, hazards, etc. information.
Recommended, but Bring lots of balls.

Played On 06/23/2018Course is growing on me
I have played this course a couple times and each time I like it a little more.. Each hole presents a different set of challenges. Not one fairway is flat and almost each green is well protected.
To score well, you need to have well placed shots and be ready to lay-up on a few holes.
Fairways weren't pristine, but generally in pretty good shape. Greens were fast on the day we played and in pretty good shape.
Played as a twosome and finished in under 4 h, so good pace of play. Paid with a GolfNow deal which was an excellent value.
The New England Country Club
Played On 06/09/2018Beautiful Course
Very nice, well maintained course with some challenges. Greens were very fast. Elevation and hazard placement a=make this a somewhat challenging course, so strategy is key.
You can not walk this course, unless you have all day. Lot's of distance between holes 1 and 2, and a few others.
Recommend and will play again.
Allendale Country Club
Played On 06/02/2018Nice Course
Played here as single and teamed up with a couple for the round. Course was in nice shape. Nothing to challenging here, but course is long for most amateur golfers. Whites play around 6500, blues farther. Have a good second shot and you could score well.
My only complaint is that we had a group of 3 or 4 behind us constantly hitting near us, despite us finishing 18 holes in 4 h. We had a mixed group, so multiple tee locations. I wish that there was a course marshal that we could have said something to about the group behind us. We always felt rushed.
I will play here again.
Stone - E - Lea Golf Course
Played On 05/06/2018Great Value. Nice course.
First time playing here and I will be back. Good layout, good terrain and for the rate from GolfNow ($15 for 18/cart) unbelievable value. Would play here for even $30.
Course is a little short (6000 from the tips), but a few holes have some good elevation changes.
Triggs Memorial Golf Course
Played On 05/05/2018Oasis in a Urban Jungle
Great little course tucked away in an urban setting. Once on it, you many times you forget you're surrounded by a major city.
Nice course with some challenging holes with elevation, blind shots, and hazards. Fairways in great shape. My only complaint was the the punched several holes and did not fill them. Consequently these greens were "unplayable". This was for 3 out of the 18.
I played with another gentleman who said when the greens come in a little more, they play well.
Overall, great experience. Will play again and worth the $.
Pembroke Country Club
Played On 04/21/2018Decent Course
Overall course was nice. Some very wet spots despite having no rain in the past few days. Good and varied terrain with some elevation and some well protected greens. Friendly and attentive staff.
One thing that I saw on this course that I had never seen before was a set of clocks every 4 to 5 holes telling you if you were ahead or behind expect pace of play. I like this, and I wish more courses would do this.
The only thing had issue with were the the greens were in pretty bad shape. They had been punch recently, had a lot of patchy growth, and not smooth and consistent. Balls bumped along couldn't hold a consistent line.
Aside form the poor greens, for $34 for 18 holes and a cart, the value was excellent.
