Sevierville Golf Club - Highlands Course
Played On 09/19/2018Fair, but challenging course
Very impressed by eery thing at the course. Only thing that was not first class were the greens. They were very spotty and there were lots of unfixed ball marks. I would not hesitate playing again and I would highly recommend. Best course in the area in my opinion.
Century Pines Golf Club
Played On 08/02/2017Great value for golf and food
The course is challenging when you pick the right tees for your skill level. Most holes are good with some strategy required. Couple of holes could be improved on (like 16) with a little work. Some water damage that reflects work required to improve the course condition so that it drains better. They were working on hole 4 to address some drainage issues which is encouraging to see. They continue to do upgrades which is nice to see on a public course. Course coition compared to other courses in this price range is excellent.
The restaurant and patio has undergone significant work and is really nice. Standard food is available but for the more adventuresome there are many daily specials that are first rate - kudos to the kitchen team!
Some cart paths need work as does some of the signage. Pace of play is generally good but some holes seem to attract a crowd. Playing in 4 hours is usually not an issue.
Chedoke Civic Golf Course - Martin
Played On 07/31/2017Boring layout
Fairly straightforward design that benefits from undulating terrain. Signage is very poor so it is imperative you look at the map often. Little in the way of cart oaths to assist in finding the next tee. You are often driving close to greens and tees. Tough course to walk given the severe slopes. Mature trees can penalize wayward shots. Greens were about average - pay attention to where the escarpment/mountain is as it impacts greatly on the greens.sand traps average.Staff are pleasant, but average in service.
There are better courses in the area that cost the same but it's great to see the city support golfers by operating three courses in the city, two of hich are located at Chedoke.
Azalea Sands Golf Course
Played On 08/25/2015Finally played the course
After a bad experiences few years back I decided to give the course another try. First the course was notbusyso the pace of play was excellent at just under 3 hours as a single. The greens were slow but were in good condition. The fairways were a mixed bag - some were terrible (like the first hole) and others were good. Layout is interesting with lots of choice for tee boxes. Each hole had two pins, one was standard sized holeandsecond was an 8 inch hole for beginners. Sandtraps had sand but were not maintained by either the course or the players. Only had drinking water on one hole and beverage cart was never seen ( not good when you don't allow coolers). This course is best suited for the casual golfer.
Dragon's Fire Golf Club
Played On 08/09/2015Interesting layout
Playing late in the day I managed to play 18 holes in less than 3 hours. The downside was that the greens were a little rough from weekend play. The fairways were firm and dry reflecting the lack of rain recently. I felt the course has good potential but conditioning could be better (tees, fairways, bunkers and green). Players need to fix bvall mnarks and take bunkers! Would not recommend walking given the elevation changes and the distance between holes.
Eagle Nest Golf Club
Played On 07/31/2015Lack of Hospitality
Getting lost because of my GPS is never a good way to start a golf round. Being late is also not good (on me). But when it occurs and your a visitor from far away the staff need to demonstrate more empathy and make accommodations (that what the best in the hospitality business do). Yes, they offered to let me play some 3 hours later but I had other commitments that day. A "raincheck" for another day might have been more acceptable. Let me play 9 holes (my spot had to be out there on the course - I was a single) or start me on the back 9. Very disappointing to pay for a round that I never got to play. One of my worst experiences ever.....but I'm on holidays and all is okay!
Indigo Creek Golf Club
Played On 08/29/2014Shot amking required
Not an overly long course but one that places a premium on position. Course was dry due to long hot summer albeit some wet spots did exist which reflect poor drainage. I enjoyed the course and the staff we very friendly and accommodating. No water on the course so bring your own (coolers are permitted)
Indian Wells Golf Course
Played On 08/28/2014Thinking man's course with water!
This course featured many doglegs, lay ups and thought to navigate around the course (which I liked). Not overly long it required strategic thinking to put yourself in the best position to score. Wayward shots were penalized, so a premium on accuracy is rewarded.
International Club of Myrtle Beach
Played On 08/26/2014Great value!
From the reception at the bag drop, through to the finish of the round I was treated very well. The course was in very good conditiond for the most part but there were some roughspots. Betteruse of marshalls tomove slower groups along would have made the day perfect but I still played in a reasonable time - just hated to wait on every tee box and sometimes there were multiple groups waiting.
Azalea Sands Golf Course
Played On 08/26/2014Never again!
If you like alcohol, loud foursomes and slow golf this is your place -I would never return! Group in front of me seemed more intent on partying than golfing and they were not alone. Pro Shop was unattended for at least 15 minutes until the "surfer" dude who seemed stoned (said he'd been up since 5 AM - it was 10:45) and couldn't find my reservation. Then said I needed to wait for carts to come in but we should be to go - thatwith about 4 or 5 foursomes on the first tee waiting. Needless to say I gathered my gear and left!
Whispering Pines Golf Course
Played On 08/24/2014Good value
Played at twilight which allowed me to play very quick 18 holes. Multiple tee blocks to suit your skill level. Conditions were average - some rough areas. Layout is not overly challenging which is what you would expect from a municipal course.
Blackmoor Golf Club
Played On 08/21/2014Enjoyable afternoon!
Accomodating and attentive staff, challenging layout and good pricing made for a very enjoyable round of golf. Tee blocks accomodate a wide variety of skill levels - course was challenging but not too tough which was good.
Heron Point Golf Club
Played On 08/20/2014In need of TLC....
...or money. I have played this course many times in the past - it is a good layout that has been allowed to deteriorate! My golfing companion (Bob) was the best part of the round and was a great host for 18 holes. Course had one temporary green, many unraked sand traps, barren tee blocks and rough fairways. At $15.00 it was just slightly better than going to the driving range. We played in under 3 hours which was great, but I don't see me coming back again - shame because I used to like the course and I keep hoping it will get back to it's former glory!
Scenic Woods Golf and Country Club
Played On 06/15/2014Too slow!
We knew we were in trouble at the first tee. Despite having a tee off time there appeared to be numerous groups ahead of us. After negotiating with the Starter we got to start our round 30 minutes late. From that point onward it moved at a very slow pace (played 18 in 6.5 hours). Pace picked up on the back nine but only because people quit after nine holes. Course was very dry so you needed to adjust your play to reflect the conditions. Tee blocks are badly worn. Long walks between tees make this a difficult course for walking (unless you are very fit or like long walks)
Aberdeen Country Club - Highlands/Meadows
Played On 8/27/2012Worth a replay
We got rained out the first time and came back a couple of days later to be rained upon again. Despite a constant rainfall the course held up extremely well with excellent drainage. Course conditions were excellent, layout was above average and pace of play was not an issue as we had the course to ourselves (because of the rain). We will return to play again as we felt the course offered great value for the money and a solid test of our golf skills.
Colonial Charters Golf Club
Played On 8/21/2012Poor conditioned golf course
This course needs significant work in terms of maintenance and day-to-day upkeep. Bunkers have little to no sand and many weeds. Greens are in very poor condition with little evidence of regular rotation of cups. Fairways were not draining correctly from recent rain but also needed attention ( bare spots). Unless you are looking for a very inexpensive round of golf and do not care about the conditions of the course, stay away. One staff member was friendly and put up a brave face despite the course conditions.
