The Preserve Golf Club
Played On 02/18/2023You should play elsewhere
I have played this course many times while visiting the area and have loved the layout. BUT this place is going down quickly. Poor, awful conditions, little maintenance or TLC given the course, evidenced by creeping grasses on the greens and mole cricket damage everywhere. Too bad, could be a real winner in the area.
Not going back. Too many other good choices in the region.

I have the honor of playing here many while vacationing in the Sarasota area. Enjoyed a fun layout and great conditions. The layout is still good but the conditions have severely deteriorated. Creeping grasses ruining the greens, can be easily remediated if desires, Mole Crickets in evidence everywhere, lots of holes, there needs to be a more comprehensive watering program as the play is overly dry.
Sorry to see this deteriorate so much. Shame.
Jacaranda West Country Club
Played On 02/15/2023Really enjoyed this course
I have seen the ads for this place for a long time but this was my first time playing. Just loved this course. Great conditions, great facilities, wonderful conditions, a real treat.
I will return and look forward to being able to play there again. Keep up the good work.

For a two year old course the conditions were very good. Greens are still hard but overall the conditions were very good.
Nice layout, quite fair. The greens are very severe so shot placement is critical to avoid the dreaded three and four putts.
Sorry the range was closed.
Great place to play.
Quite expensive but a good experience.
The River Club
Played On 02/14/2023Good track
This is a fun place to play, need local knowledge to properly navigate but a good golf course.
The problem is that everyone knows it and it was over a five hour round of golf. There were four foursomes waiting on the first tee and we were 20 minutes late starting. It never got back on track and was very frustrating.
It is not a long course, but has some interesting quirks.
The course ranger came around, asked us how long we had been playing and then thought that 2.13 hours through 8 holes was fine. I corrected him and told him it was not. Seemed oblivious to the problem. They need to manage this load of players and get it right.
I will play it again and hopefully it will take less time to play it.
Bent Tree Country Club
Played On 02/10/2023Please let me come back!!
I had avoided this place since their reputation was less than stellar in the region. BUT this is a nice course, great layout and a lot of fun to play. Conditions were much better than other regional courses (AVOID Heritage Harbor and Preserve at Tara!!) and the pace of play was most agreeable.
I will definitely come back during future visits to the Sarasota area.
Peterhead Golf Club - The Old Course

This is a fun links golf course. Took me 8 trips to Scotland to get around and play it and I regret ignoring it until now.
Fun layout on a pennisula of linksland, it does start slow but revs up in a hurry. Lots of elevation changes, some misdirection, tough putting and keeps you guessing all the time.
Not played by a lot of visitors and the ammenities were nil, outside a small bar.
Our group loves to play as many local links courses as possible and I would definitely recommend this one.
The Hasentree Club
Played On 05/08/2018Forget about this place for a long while
This is normally an excellent club. BUT they have endured an extreme amount of winter kill on the course this year, most evident on the greens.
I was formerly a member here for many years and the quality of the greens, coupled with an outstanding Fazio layout, was their hallmark.
Not any more. Several are slated to be sodded and virtually every other green is highly distressed. I feel terrible for the members.
Our nearby course has also suffered somewhat this winter coupled with a very cold spring, but not nearly to the extend of Hasentree.
I only wish they will be able to restore the club to its full former splendor. I would love to return to play it again thereafter.
BTW I was playing in an interclub event and that is why the cost is so low.
Links at Wild Dunes Golf Links

In the Charleston area and got a day to play. This was a wonderful experience. Nicely conditioned for late spring, smooth greens, tight fairways.
Lots of treachery to avoid.
Really enjoyed the company of a retured couple from Atlanta and would look forward to returning to this course again.
This is an excellent course. The scenery, the layout, the course caters to all levels of play and they have real sand in the bunkers versus red dirt at some other places in the area. I'd highly recommend.
You’d think being the venue for a golf tournament would be a great opportunity to showcase the talent of your staff as well as your private country club-that’s assuming you’d like to attract more members or at least make your member’s friends feel impressed. The staff at Hasentree obviously does not think like this.
I played in a scramble there on May 7 and shame on me I carried 2 clubs to a par 3 and left one behind. There was an opportunity to make an announcement asking if anyone had found the club, there was also an opportunity to see who teed off behind my group to see if they grabbed it. No such assistance from the staff. These guys never once said let’s see what we can do.
These guys are worthless clowns. Everyone acted as if I was a thorn in their side for even asking for help to locate my golf club. Dave and Phil are not worth whatever they are paid.
Besides all this the course is not very nice. The fairways are like a cow pasture and the greens are in awful shape. My advice would be to seek membership elsewhere. And if you do join, you’ll regret it if you get treated the way I was. I hope they care about their members better! If I treated my guests like this I’d go out of business
