Beautiful and challenging

The course is in terrific shape. It's a great option to get away from the crowds and play some interesting holes. The tee boxes are a little fuzzy, but the fairways and greens are excellent.
It's much more difficult than the scorecard suggests. With the assortment of blind tee shots, hard dog-legs, sloping fairways, uphill approaches, and undulating greens, it's hard to find a straight-forward shot.
In my first round, I struggled to put the ball where it needed to be. You need to know the bounces before taking aim.
Also, the pin placements were brutal. There were no easy putts.
With a little course knowledge, I look forward to coming back.

Great potential, lacks attention to detail

The tee boxes are in bad shape, uneven and full of sandy divots, and the course is overwatered. The greens are soft and bumpy.
But the views are wonderful and the layout is great.
With a little work, it would be a really nice course.

Wide open and interesting

The Legends course is wider, nicer, and more interesting than the Ranch, but also more crowded. I played both courses.
The greens are smooth, but tough to read. The wind swirls through the hills and makes club selection difficult.
If it wasn't so far away, I'd come down and play both courses again.

Good course, narrow, uncrowded

I played at 9:30 on a Friday, alone, in 2.5 hours, for $49. I was amazed that nobody else was on the course. I saw more deer than people.
The tee shots are narrow, the bunkers are a bit chunky, the fairways are nice, and the greens are smooth.
Some holes are totally isolated in the woods, while others are adjacent to houses.
I played the Legends course in the afternoon, in 4.5 hours. It's a bit wider, easier, and more interesting, but also more crowded.
Considering only the course, I'd play the Legends again. But considering playing time, I'd prefer the Ranch.

Good conditions, but tricky tee shots and difficult greens

The course is in good condition, though perhaps a little shaggy in some parts. The greens are wonderfully smooth and true, though not too fast.
On many holes, you can't see the green from the tee. The tricky tee shots add character, but make for difficult strategizing.
The greens, like all Johnny Miller tracks, are very tough. Imagine elephants buried in the greens. No straight putts. Up'n'down double-breakers. If your approach shots aren't stellar, 3-putts abound.
Great service in the pro shop.

Great feel, but lacking in details

The quiet CC atmosphere, up in the woods, is really nice. The course has some interesting holes, with great potential, but a few of the details are lacking. Most noticeably, the greens were very slow, there were puddles in the bunkers (with no rain), and a couple of the tee boxes were lumpy.
It was all pretty good, but I was hoping for more.
For similar feel, and better details, try Winchester.

Great course with a luxury feel

Yocha caters mostly to casino resort guests. All of the details are luxurious, including the bag drop, golf carts, range balls, and pro shop. The locker room even has showers.
The service is impeccable, from the moment you arrive. The on-course marshals were great too.
The course itself was also in terrific shape, though the wind was whipping at 25mph when I played. Besides the obvious wind difficulties, it dried out the already fast and hard greens, making approach shots nearly impossible. The greens were smooth and fair, but with sprayed approach shots leaving 30-50' putts, it's tough to score.
I'll come back on a calmer day and enjoy the course even more.

Let 'er rip

With the wide open fairways, you can hit driver on most holes. Only a few tee shots require more strategy.
The greens were sanded, but usually they're in nice condition.
The bunkers were bad. Some were fluffy, some were crusty, and it looks like players don't rake their footprints.
I like playing here early in the morning, before 7, or in the heat of the afternoon. The Sun City residents play mostly from 8-12. If you avoid the peak hours, the course feels empty.

Great par 3's

The par-3's are the most interesting holes, while the par-5 tee shots are also fun (mostly downhill with good views).
The fairways are in nice shape.
The new GPS carts are helpful.
The greens were aerated and sanded, which made for ugly putting, but when I have played it previously, the greens were in good condition.
Pace of play is usually 4.5 hours, mid-week.

Best around

Winchester is the best course in the area, and for $55 it's a steal.
It's not a grip-it and rip-it course. You must strategize your tee shots, balancing risk and reward.
The greens are fast and true.
The pace of play is usually great. Mid-week you can play in under 4 hours.
All of the little things are done well. It feels like a country club (it is!) for a muni price.

Play it while you can

This private-turned-public course is amazing. Playing with a caddie is a treat. The course design is superb.
It is expensive, (don't forget to tip your caddie), but it is worth it, at least once. If the economy comes around, they'll probably close the course to public play.

Play it early

I like playing Darkhorse before 7am. Be the first to the shop and head out before it gets busy.
The tee shots demand accuracy, not length. Trouble left and right.
The greens are pretty good and the holes are interesting.

Unenjoyable

Morgan Creek used to be private, but opened when they needed extra $ from public play.
They treated me like I was invisible.
The greens were ugly and overly difficult.
The course design is unnecessarily tricky, with too many weird shot angles.
Hopefully it has improved since 2012, but I won't play there again.
