Early season open

My wife and I signed up to play Northstar on Golfnow.com at $50 per only to find that only nine holes of the course had only been open less than a week.. We discovered that only the front nine holes were open and the greens on most of those holes were sanded and in quite poor condition. Neither Golfnow nor anyone at the golf desk mentioned that only nine holes were open. We discovered this when we finished the first nine and made the turn to start the back nine--only to find it closed! We played part of the first nine again but were disappointed in the overall experience. We've played Northstar a number of times in previous visits to the Tahoe area and had good experiences but it was way to early in the season this year.

Great course!

Red Hawk Hills (& Lakes) courses are probably the best semi-private courses in the Reno/Tahoe area, especially with the frequent Hot Deals available on GolfNow.com. My wife and I played the Hills course on a Friday and found it in the usual great shape. When in the Tahoe area we frequently make the trip from Tahoe City to play Red Hawk because of the good course conditions and reasonable prices.

Challenging Mountain Course

The course is a typical mountain course with very hilly terrain and tight fairways. The course condition was typical for a mountain course for this time of year. Fairway grasses had not come in yet so were hard with a lot of roll and lays were generally poor. Tee boxes could use a lot of work when weather conditions improve. I think this would be a good play in another month or two and into the fall. Would be a good location for a group outing as there accommodations and fairly extensive sports facilities available on site..

Good Weekend Value

Brookstone Meadows is a fairly hilly, generally well-kept course in a residential development. The greens are fast and in good shape with only occasional spotty areas. Our pace of play on Sunday afternoon was quite slow due to two fivesomes that teed off prior to our tee time. We frequently waited for the foursome ahead of us who were waiting on the fivesomes. This despite the fact we had one high-handicap lady in our foursome slowing our play. However, we did enjoy the day and the great value obtained thru GolfNow.com.
