Turtle Creek Golf
Played On 09/28/2017Really good, we'll be back!
We were looking for somewhere new to play, And this was a place that I'd seen driving around the area, and it looked very promising. We booked a great deal on golf now, on a perfect fall day. We we're not disappointed. It's a lovely course, well-maintained and conditioned. The staff were great. The course guide is really helpful, as some of the holes are a little quirky, but not in a bad way. The only negative about the course was the condition of the sand traps. They didn't appear to be maintained, clearly didn't drain well, even though it hasn't rained in two weeks, and some of them were falling apart. If they could fix this the course would be almost perfect. It's a short course, but tricky, and with very small sloped greens. Don't be fooled by the length, you will have a challenging game.
Burlington Springs Golf Club
Played On 05/14/2017Good course for the price!
We played on Mothers Day, so the course was wide open and we got around in under four hours. Conditions were good for the beginning of the season and it had dried out nicely from all of the rain we've had recently. Greens were good, quick and in good shape. For under $40 with a cart, it was excellent value.
Tyandaga Golf Course
Played On 8/16/2013Scenic layout, but not ideal as a golf course
We got what I felt was a great deal at $30 each including a cart, and when I arrived at the course I was pleasantly surprised at the facility and the condition of the course (for a 'muni'.)
Once we teed off it became apparent that the 18 holes had been squeezed into a space that wasn't quite big enough. Many holes are side by side, and at times you are close to 3 or 4 holes, with balls spraying from all over. 'Fore' is heard a lot more than at most courses, and many holes had nets or fences to protect the players.
The course is very short, only 5800 yards from the back tees, which makes for some very short holes - there's only one par four over 400 yards!! Perhaps to 'toughen up' the course, the second cut of rough isn't - cut, that is. Any ball hit into it is instant swallowed up, leading to excessive time needed to search for errant shots. Instead of going from two inch rough to two foot fescue, perhaps a more graduated approach would be better.
Most of the holes are 'blind', to some extent, and for a first timer that was frustrating. Even with some course knowledge, it's still hard to know where the group ahead are on many holes, and there are a couple of holes where the green is still blind 150 yards out, so you're forced to ride up to see where the green is, and what the pin placement is. Not ideal for a good pace of play.
Otherwise, the condition of the course was excellent for the price, and the greens were really outstanding (although a couple needed cutting).
Overall, it was okay for the price, but not somewhere I'll rush back to.
Hidden Lake Golf Club - Old Course
Played On 5/1/2013Excellent Value For Money
We paid $27 for a walking rate at 3.27 p.m., which is a fabulous deal for a course that is regularly $59. As an additional bonus, they gave us a power cart!!! This may have been a misunderstanding about the rate we'd booked, but that's fine.
The course was almost empty at that time of day, so we got around very quickly, and rarely say anybody else, let alone having to wait. The course condition was fair, but considering it was very early in the season, I guess it was acceptable. The greens needed cutting and rolling as they were very slow.
Overall, great weather, a fast round, super value, and a score only 3 shots off my best of LY, add up to a great round!!
