Lakeland Golf Club
Played On 01/05/2021Way overpriced for your value
The course layout is nice. Greens are getting better. They finally have a superintendent that’s willing to work. However, the pin placements are ridiculous. It’s like they think you are playing putt putt, and not golf. The inside staff is rude and act like you’re privileged to play their course instead of saying thank you for playing.

Grass isn’t very well cut. Especially the rough. Looks like they only cut a small fairway. It’s about 20 yards wide per fairway. And the rough is so high you can’t find the ball. Slows the pace of play down way too much. Some rough is up to your calf’s or knees. Especially number 9 and right of number 10. Greens are also filled with dead spots. There is also apparently an irrigation problem. The course was very wet in spots including number 6 green with standing water. We haven’t had rain in about 3 weeks and the course was still soaked. The maintenance on the course has become very laxed and lazy.

I hear they have a new superintendent. He has his worked cut out for him. Sand traps are unplayable. The greens are eat up with disease. Many areas on the course are not cut. It’s very poorly managed. The GM is a jerk and could care less if you play at all. He needs to develop some people skills. A few in the clubhouse have the same attitude he has.

Worst shape I’ve ever seen it in. Grass was extremely high. Couldn’t find your ball in the rough. Greens were like concrete, wouldn’t hold anything. Sand traps were no longer maintained. Basically just rocks and dirt. Looks like they either need a new superintendent or he needs to learn to do his job. Golf business is up 70% this year, so it’s not a budget issue.

Nice course. Well manicured. Friendly staff. Costly easy course. Great for beginning golfers. Pace of play is pretty good. The only issue was the height of the rough. It’s an easy course so that’s it’s only defense besides the trees. However, it certainly slows the pace of play when you have to search for the ball in rough where it sinks to the bottom. My only suggestion would to cut it a little lower to speed up play. It’s thick, and I know the course is easy. It is what it is. But it’s not fun searching for balls slightly out of the fairway.

Unbelievable they even call this a golf course. They should be embarrassed and obviously the superintendent has no pride in his work. Saying they are going bankrupt, can’t afford to cut grass and no money to hire anyone. Check out the photos.

Thought I’d give this course another try since I live in the area. I could not believe the poor condition the course is in. I don’t think it will be open much longer. I was told they don’t have the money to cut the grass. Find that hard to believe when the superintendent is on a salary. Guess he’s too lazy to get on the mower. They are charging 10.00 more during the week then the other courses in the area and and the weekends as well. And the course looks worse than my yard. Even before they put the new greens in, everything else was maintained. They aren’t doing anything at all now.

Most poorly managed and maintained course in Shelby County, possibly West Tennessee. Pins are only moved once a month. No sand in the traps. They haven’t been filled since last June. Weeds on the greens. No maintenance has been done in about 4 months. Their staff isn’t friendly and the management has no customer service relations. He thinks it’s either his way or the highway. He will tell you he doesn’t care if you ever play there again or not. Their snack bar is always understaffed. And there are many times they will close when they shouldn’t be, or even close early so you can’t play.

This is the most poorly managed and maintained course in the area. You never know when they will be open. You never know when the food and beverage is open. The sand traps are all mud and haven’t been maintained in years. The leaves got blown off the course, but not mulched, so you still can’t find your ball in the rough, and on some holes, not even in the fairway. They seldom move the pins or tee boxes. The greens are never rolled. Only good thing is you pay a winter rate. They have a new GM who knows nothing about golf or dealing with the public. And the superintendent or his crew are never working on the golf course.

Course is in the best shape it’s been in years. The maintenance crew is taking the time and effort needed to make it the best course in West Tn. They are showing a lot of pride in their work and that makes me proud to play there.
