Reston National Golf Course
Played On 05/15/2020Nice course, good layout.
Nice course to play on. Greens and fairways in great shape. Bunkers horrible. I see golfers who are members who pay thousands of dollars per year move their ball out of bunkers because they are so bad. Worst in VA. For this you pay $80 midweek in late afternoon?
Much better value playing Herndon, Twin Lakes Pleasant Valley.
Redgate Golf Course
Played On 11/11/2014Challenging couse but not well maintained
Redgate has some interesting holes with many elevated tees and hills to encounter. The course is not very well maintained. Some holes have so many leaves on the ground in fairways and greens you struggle to find your ball. Sand traps are in bad shape. Hole 16 has a huge cliff you have to carry 250 yds to the green. Ugly hole. Another Billy Casper managed golf course where they put too many golfers on the course.
Dear Golfer,
Thnak you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am pleased to report the course is in great shape and we have redone a lot of bunkers. Regards, Billy
Twin Lakes - Oaks Course
Played On 08/27/2014Oaks course in greay shape
Played Caks course on a Wedesday , smooth sailing.Course in good shape. Had to play through 2 foursomes on back nine. Started as a foursome, 2 palyers said for 2 of us to go forward. One foursome was nice and let me through. The other foursome was hitting ball all over the place. Waited at approach shot for 15 mins, I couldn't wait another hole like that and asked to play through. Course was in good condition. I will come back.
Eagle Landing Golf Club
Played On 03/18/2014Decent course , nice greens
Played on a Tuesday with 4 " of rain in the previous 30 hrs. Course was surprisingly playable with few puddles of standing water. I would play again here. Wasn't crowded because it was mid week and overcast. Sometimes the cart ride goes a way since this course is in the middle of a housing development. Water hazards didn't come in to play too much. Good course for high handicappers (i am one ). Took a while to get here from UNF area.
Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club
Played On 10/27/2013Raspberry Falls is touted as one of the best courses in the area. Seems to live up to this ranking. Beautiful vistas from hole 2 and 3.
Played late on Sunday 10/27/13, beautiful day, course is in good shape. Greens in good shape. Some holes have deep bunkers so try to stay away from that hazard. You have to play this course just to say you were there at least once. You will probably come back if you can. Somewhat expensive. I will come back for a 4th visit.
Bull Run Golf Club
Played On 9/2/2013Good course, well maintained.
Played Labor Day, took 5 hours because a slow foursome was ahead and always looking for balls. No marshall around to speed things up. Course was in good condition and greens in good shape. Got a good deal on GolfNow for one golfer and jumped in with a threesome. Worked out well, the rough can get high andt it can be difficult to get out if you miss fairways. White tees played closer that day than usual. This helped on #4 hole where there is normaly a bit of carry distance to get through.
Algonkian Golf Course
Played On 8/27/2013Nice course, generally good conditions. Bunkers below average in some places.
I must have run in to the the rude starter that another reviewer mentioned. I arrived at 3:32 for a 3:30 tee time, The starter asked if I knew what time it was. There was not many people on the course and only one person in the first tee box who I joined. (He was a walk on, I had a reservation). Is this bad treatment of good customers neccesary ? Played the front 9 in well uder two hours, then a person came up and asked if I was playing 9 or 18. I said 18 only to find a slow group of walking older golfers that were put on the back 9 ahead of me. This slowed my back 9 to almost 3 hours as 3 or 4 groups waited for the slow group that had 3 open holes in front of them. No marshalls around to move things along. Too bad...
Ocean Pines Golf Club
Played On 7/23/2013challenging course , narrow fairways, fairways need attention
Practice facilty nice with grass tees is a big plus. Course is narrow with many dogleg holes. This is probably because there is a lot of houses around the course. If you drive the ball really well, you will overhit . Doglegs require fairways woods. Plenty of water hazards. Fairways were in bad condition when I was there. Greens very good. would like to go back when fairways are better.
Penderbrook Golf Club
Played On 5/15/2013Pace of play slow on a Wednesday afternoon. No marshalls around to speed up play.
course in average condition.. Greens on the day I played after several days of rain were very fast and pin placements were right on ridges of the green where ball speed has to be perfect to prevent 3 putts. Holes 10/11/12 involve water hazards. Hole 12 170 yard or more carry over water , tiny green to hit. I don't like the design of this course much. Good for ball striking practice and tee shots on narrow fairways. Grass hadn't been cut in the 2nd cut of rough near the greens. Hard to get out. Sand traps are were not maintained well after the recent rains so that is an adventure if you get in.
Thanks for playing and leaving this review. We typically renovate several bunkers every year. Because of the coronavirus, we have not been able to do the bunker work as planned. Our apologies.
