Omni Amelia Island Resort - Oak Marsh
Played On 05/22/2015Great course in terrific shape
as with ocean links, small greens means accuracy is key. Difference between the two courses is oak marsh is significantly longer 600 yards from the tips. Wind is a factor but not as much as on the ocean course. From hole 9 onwards you experience golf on the marsh, with the final 3 holes playing directly alongside. Not sure you'll face 3 harder finishing holes from the tips. You have to play 16 from the gold just for the challenge, especially if they tuck the pin on the right behind the tree!! Great course, great condition. I was first out and was done in 2.5 hours.
Omni Amelia Island Resort - Ocean Links
Played On 05/21/2015Fun course to play at a good price
i always try and play early and I can get around in 3 hours by teeing off before 8am. Not a long course but small greens so it's more about your approach shot that tee ball. With a number of the holes overlooking the ocean, it's a great setting. Greens were in great condition. Everyone is very friendly. Course winds through the resort so make sure you pay attention to the signage. 16th tee shot is the most difficult as it's difficult to pick the right line from the gold tees. Although not as difficult as oak marsh, I think this is more fun to play.
Heritage Golf Links - Legacy Nine
Played On 07/05/2014stop doing 8 minutes between tee times!!!
I play here a lot, usually early morning Saturdays. I typically wait 10-20 minutes past my tee time to tee off and this is usually scheduled for 7:30am. 8 minute tee times are killing the fun and quality of the golf course. Too many pitch marks make certain holes look and play badly. Unless the marshals are out to direct slow play (and oh my god people are slow) this course backs up. At least if you had 10 minute tee time intervals you could stop the round backing up a little bit on the first tee. The fact the course has 3 nines (but people only want to play 2 of them) should force the operators to schedule tee times appropriately. Heritage, if you try and squeeze too many rounds on your course, you'll lose more players than you think. You need to manage your clientele better and stop exploiting them.
Mountain View at Callaway Gardens Resort
Played On 06/15/2014Course in great condition
Other than having to wait for 15 minutes on each hole (I played as a single and the first 6 holes in 30 mins), after the 6th, the course was in great condition. It was Father's Day and they allowed a 5 some which is okay if the course is quiet but it wasn't. The fact they never once allowed the twosome behind to play through is a disgrace. Their reasoning was they couldn't go anywhere as there were 3 foursomes in front. This is a lame excuse. One of their players even went back to re-tee when he couldn't find his original tee shot. What a joke!!! No rangers so was stuck in 90 degree heat waiting. I shot 77 so it's not that I played badly, but slow play is killing the game and this fivesone is as guilty as anyone.
I skipped ahead and played 17&18 in 10 minutes and went back to play 11-16. It took me 3 hours to play 10 holes. Scandalous.
SummerGrove Golf Club
Played On 04/28/2014First time in a few years was not disappointed
I love the layout and the shape of the greens. They seem to be struggling a little bit with grass on the fairways. Greens were in great shape and were clearly well maintained. Very quiet golf course although surrounded by trees.
Staff were extremely friendly as I was late for my tee time but as the course was quiet it was easy to accommodate me.
Would definitely recommend this course and hope the fairways continue to improve.
Cobblestone Golf Course
Played On 02/25/2014Great course even tough it was a little wet
I'd heard this course doesn't drain well after it rains and I would agree it needs a little more drainage support. It's a quality course, which plays long even from the blues (6200 yards) on a wet day. Love the mounds on the fairway, which increases the difficulty of approach shots. Plenty of bunkers protecting the greens, so you need to carry onto most greens.
A good mixture of holes, many on the water. Greens were fast without being ridiculous.
Staff super friendly, course well maintained and one of my favorite courses to play when I'm able.
Stonemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
Played On 02/18/2014Still not sure about Stone Mountain
I've played the course for 5 years now. The past 12 months is the worst shape I've seen it in. Lakemont is closed as they have been doing work on it, which I applaud. The greens on Stonemont, which used to be very true and fast and are a little bumpy. It's a good course, where you have to drive the ball well, but it's not as pristine as it once was. I hope the spring and summer see this course return to a better shape.
Cherokee Run Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2014Challenging course
I don't think I've played faster greens all year. If you miss on the wrong side you're dead. This course requires you to be on your game and know where to leave your approach shot. Almost guarantee you will not shoot your handicap.
Staff friendly. I'm glad they switched 9 ending with a birdie able par 5.
Great course.
Hampton Golf Village
Played On 10/12/2013First time out to Hampton in a while
Course was in great shape. Two distinctly different 9s. Front is mountainous while back is much flatter. If you drive the ball well you will score well. Also important not to miss it on the wrong side of the green. Some of the drop offs are significant.
I did not play well but the course is worth playing.
Greens and bunkers in good shape. Very quiet for a saturday morning.
Achasta Golf Club
Played On 4/13/2013Fantastic course in great condition
Can't think of anything bad except, I would like to see pictures of each hole on the scorecard so you know where water was lurking. Great course in pristine condition even with all the rain.
If you haven't played it watch out for water on the par 5s. Second par 5 on the back is a brute. Hardest part of this course is the par 5s and the approach shot to the greens.
If you are anywhere near chestatee, drive the additional 10 miles to play this beauty.
Chestatee Golf Club
Played On 4/08/2013tough course but great surroundings
they struggle with the greens a little bit it's a great location.
Brasstown Valley Resort
Played On 8/11/2012a must play in the north GA mtns
This is a beautiful course in a fabulous setting. It's nothing like your typical resort course. It's also relatively flat as it sits in the valley but it's long and difficult. You have a few blind tee shots on the back nine so it helps to play with someone who knows the lay out.
The setting is perfect with lots of water so you have to drive the ball well. Greens are fast and true. Bunkers were perfect. If you like Barnsley Gardens you will like Brasstown valley, but at half the price.
My only criticism was it took 5 hours on a saturday afternoon. Neither of the 2 foursomes in front of me (single) would let me play through. I caught the first group on the second hole and their failure to let me play through caused a backup for everyone else. The marshalls should have handled.
When you have a resort course you attract occasional golfers and the course needs to realize this and direct traffic better.
17 and 18 are hard finsihing holes so be prepared.
