Highlands at Mississippi National Golf Links
Played On 07/21/2017Gorgeous
This was my 2nd time playing the Highlands course. The first was for a corporate outing, and I loved it so much I made a special trip just to come back. The course has some of the most scenic views I've ever seen on a golf course. Some unique features, such as 100+ foot elevated tee boxes on a few holes, a couple of sharp doglegs and a great variety of par 3s. You have to take a cart on the Highlands course as it is too spread out and has so much elevation change that walking would take over five hours to play a round. Next time I am down in the Twin Cities area, I will definitely be making the hour drive out to Red Wing to play it once again.
Enger Park Golf Course - Back
Played On 05/06/2017Old boys course
This was my first time playing Enger, and probably will be the last. The staff was very friendly at check in, but when we got to the box for our 1:00 tee time at 12:55, there were still three groups ahead of us waiting to go with no starter to be found. The pace was extremely slow as one of the groups had eight golfers and four kids who weren't golfing. The group behind us kept hitting into us and seemed generally disgusted that there were a couple of non-members playing "their" course.
The course itself was decent, the greens were still pretty shaggy and there were definitely some problem areas on a few of the fairways. The layout was fun though. A few tee boxes made you think twice about grabbing the driver, which is always a fun mental aspect to the game. The par 3s were a nice comfortable distance, none of those 200+ yard par 3s that require a perfectly struck iron.
Tianna Country Club
Played On 10/09/2016Hills, Hills Hills!
This was my 2nd time playing Tianna. Got an absolute steal through Golfnow.com. There are a lot of very picturesque views on this course. But don't expect to be able to walk it. The course is extremely hilly. You are playing to an elevated green on more holes than you'd like. Due to all of the hills, you end up hitting a good deal of blind shots. The greens had recently been plugged, but other than that, the course was in excellent shape.
Long Bow Golf Club
Played On 09/17/2016Love this course.
This is the 2nd time I've played Longbow and it has fast become one of my favorites. The course itself is designed very well, bringing a small brook into play on a few holes. A few dog legs make you rethink grabbing the driver on the tee, but allows for some high risk high reward shots. My only complain from my most recent round was the group in front of us. It was a foursome who also had two non golfers with them. Our twosome waited on every hole until we passed them while they went inside on the turn. This was more an issue with the group being oblivious than anything the course did wrong.
Minnesota National Golf Course - Championship Course
Played On 04/30/2016Beautiful!!
This course was everything I was hoping it would be, and then some. My dad and I played the day after they opened for the season and it was in great shape for early in the season. The greens were a little shaggy, but I know they will be much quicker once the season gets into full swing. The wind was very strong the day we played, which caused me to use long irons more than I would have preferred, but it just added to the challenge. The course has some very unique holes that beg for accurate tee shots, a few forced carries of 150+ yards. The course offers five sets of tees on each hole, which can drastically change your attack angle on a number of holes. All in all, this is a very nice course and I can't wait to play it again. Hopefully the wind will cooperate better next time.
Sugar Lake Lodge - Sugarbrooke Golf Course
Played On 07/18/2015Good but slow
Got a great deal for 18 with a cart on Golfnow.com
The pace of play was okay, the only time we had to wait was when we made the turn. They had just let a group out off the back and we had a 10-15 minute wait.
