West at Woodlands Country Club

Played On 11/6/2013Always a pleasure
Come from Canada twice a year and I never missed a round at River Place. Staff are always super friendly, you never felt that you're a guest in a private club. Course condition are always pristine and course drained pretty well after heavy rain last night and last week (cart path only though). Mixture of long and very short holes: putted for eagle on 15th, ended with gimme bird! Some elevated greens make club selection and wind guess crucial. Always a pleasure to come back.

Challenging course. Some very tight holes with houses sometimes too close. Green are fast and difficult to read.
Grey Rock Golf Club
Played On 2/27/2013Great course
Great course on a windy day. Course was in a very good condition except for bunkers where they put way too much sand. We were caught behind a women FIVESOME and had too wait all day.
Falconhead Golf Club
Played On 2/26/2013Great hilly course
Great hilly course. Super friendly marshal helped me replay a second round starting from the 10th hole, so that I can play two rounds from 11h20 to 18h15. Green are generally in good shape except for the signature 17th hole where superintendent can't find a way to keep it alive. I have been here in the last 3 years, and it always seem to be the worse green on the course but this year it's in better shape. greens were not very fast yesterday but it's not easy to read, unless you're a member. I booked with golfnow and the replay cost me the same amount than the first round!
White Wing Golf Club
Played On 2/25/2013Storm play
Played 2/25/2013 with winds from 35mph up to 55mph. Almost unplayable conditions. Ball moved by wind on green and green were super fast. At 135lbs, I had difficulties to stand still and hit several shots off center, body moved by wind during swing. The good thing is that I was almost alone on the course! one drive 175y against wind and on next hole, same swing gave 295y. Only way to reach greens on regulation is by pitch and run, if you're lucky enough to be downwind and close to green. Against the wind, most par 4 became par 5.
Lake Travis Country Club
Played On 2/23/2013Challenging
Good layout. Some tight fairways. Several blind shots, especially going for the green. Not enough grass in rough to stop balls from bouncing in trouble. Bring more balls unless you're a scratch player. If it's the first time here, better play with people with local knowledge. Green are OK but tees and fairways need more maintenance but for the money, can't complain.
Forest Creek Golf Club
Played On 11/16/2012Great hilly course
This course is a very hilly course with almost no flat hole. Not only you're always hitting up or down hill but fairways almost always slope away to creek. You must be a very accurate player to play there without losing a ball.Lots of dogleg left or right where you should try to work the ball on either side. well maintained course and very friendly staff and very well priced too. Much more interesting than other higher priced courses as grey rock, Tera vista.

Played On 11/13/2012Recovered better than expected
I played this course several times a year because it's close and usually we can play pretty fast as the course is not crowded. I took a chance with a great discount on golfnow and to be honest I was surprised to see it in better shape than expected. But there's still improvement to be done in rough, tee boxes (way too much grass) and bunkers. I was surprised to see that the course was a bit overwatered, as the ball was always muddy even when you hit fairways and some fairways were swampy. But for the price I paid, cannot complain. All you can play is great too as you can play 2 rounds in less than 6h unless you get caught behind a fivesome (jumped over them).
Teravista Golf Club
Played On 11/12/2012Wide open course
Wide open course but fast greens. Always loved this course but we were caught behind a very slow group. There were 2 holes empty in front of them but never saw the marshall, even in a holiday day (Veterans). I know that they can monitor the course as they can see everyone on the course with GPS monitoring system
