Fantastic, fair track, even for a Nicklaus course

I have played many Nicklaus courses and have enjoyed only a few. This was one of them. Intimidating but fair. Wide fairways, but not much room if missed. The woods are groomed and easy to find an errant drive. Greens are typical Nicklaus, lots of slope. Green speed made them very putt-able with no worry of a long come backer. Many drives require a carry to the fairway and are hit from a chute. Not many greens require a carry to reach, which is a nice relief. Par 3 eighth is reminiscent of 16 at Augusta. Overall a fantastic experience in a tranquil, quiet, beautiful upscale neighborhood setting. Highly recommended. Must play twice at least before feeling confident in where to miss.

Frequent player, top choice public track in south Charlotte area

I am a local and have played every public track in the area. By far my favorite local course. You get what you pay for - the rack rate is higher than average, but the condition and service are worth it. Plus the rate seems to weed out the slow players and blissfully ignorant beginners (bless their hearts.) Bermuda greens are 5+ years old, which are now fully settled and receptive to good shots. They putt true, not overly fast (usually) except for dormant winter season when they get slick. No overseeding of fairways in winter, which is typical for Charlotte public tracks. A great mix of tough and fair holes, short and long 3's and 5's. Holes 7, 8, and 9 are the toughest consecutive in Charlotte (besides the Green Mile at Quail Hollow as the stats show, I wouldn't know personally.) Usually easy to find errant tee shots in the woods. A few forced carries, but an equal number of run-up greens. Pin placements and teeing ground options create a great variety to suit all skill levels. Highly recommended for the experienced player, but not for the beginner or short/low-ball hitter.

Once great, now very average

I am a local who used to play this course frequently as one of my favorites. A few years back, the ownership changed and it went downhill fast. It was once the best practice facility around. It once had the best bentgrass greens around. The recession nearly killed this course, and it hasn't bounced back much. Still an admirable track as layout goes, with some great par 3"s and a solid finishing 3 hole stretch. Greens are not in good shape, usually. Anything off the fairway is a coin flip, whether it ends up in poison oak, deep rough, or hard pan slinging it un-findable. As a result of the general condition, it attracts players of lesser experience who do not fill divots or repair ball marks. Picky, I know, but lesser quality players beget lesser quality courses. Far better options in the area.
