Great layout - terrible value

Twin Rivers has always been a fun and challenging course to play, but for $70 on a weekend morning, it’s just not worth it. I’m a realist, I don’t need everything perfectly green or no weeds, etc., but for $70 it better be more than just “playable”. Every tee box is pretty beat up and every green has plenty of rough patches that don’t allow for many true rolls. This is a $45 course at best. I love the layout, but for the money, I’ll play elsewhere.

WARNING! FUNGUS - DO NOT PLAY!

Got tee time on Golfnow and there was no note about the fungus infected greens. The greens are a mess and they are not playable. This is not an exaggeration. When we got there we were told they were spotty and some areas were patchy. On the course website it says: "Note: Greens are fast and smoothly, but not pretty." They are not smooth at all - they are 100% bumpy and have large patches of no grass at all. You will not have a smooth straight putt all day. When we paid, the course reduced the rate a little and provided a $30 replay with in 30 days but it isn't worth it. These greens are months from being playable. Do yourself a favor and check reviews in a few months or ask someone who has been at the course before making a tee time. Love the course, but it's a ways out from being worth playing again.

Gem To Goat Pasture

MetroWest used to be one of the most beautifully cared for courses in town and the rates used to reflect it. The layout is fun and challenging with some doglegs, elevation changes, wide fairways and only a few water hazards. I hadn't played the course in many years and today I returned to find it looking like a goat pasture. Ignore the photos on GolfNow or on their website - those photos have to be from 12-15 years ago. For around $40 I didn't expect it to be what it once was, but I did not expect it to be this bad. The overall appearance gives the impression that there is bare minimum being done in the way of maintenance - basically they are just mowing. Fairways are full of weeds and very patchy; greens are spotty with burned out areas; bunkers aren't edged; many tee boxes are a total mess. All this being said, for $40 it is a fairly short drive from downtown Orlando and it is playable - just don't expect anything outside of that.

Course Needs Attention

I have played here plenty of times over the years but I hadn't played here in a quite a while so I called and asked how the course conditions were before I made the tee time and I was told it was in "very good condition". This didn't surprise me because it usually had been - not perfect by any means - but very playable conditions when I've played in the past. The guy I talked to just outright lied. I don't expect courses to say "don't come here, it's in bad shape, go play somewhere else", but some honesty is expected. There are greens where there are large patches of dirt, sand, patched areas, even holes. Many tee boxes are a mess - just sand and dirt. If I had pictures I would have posted them so you golfers/reviewers can see what I'm referring to. I certainly don't expect PGA conditions, but I do expect the staff to be honest when asked so expectations can be lowered or I can consider playing elsewhere. Also, the cart girl drove past us three times without stopping to ask if we wanted anything...until the 17th hole.

The fairways are playable and the starter (older guy with glasses/white beard) is very nice.

If you want to play within 30 minutes of downtown Orlando, and aren't going to be picky about conditions, you can play here for $35 including lunch. Personally I'm taking Deer Run off my list of courses I play.

Good Course; Slow Pace

I have played this course for years. The course is a fun, challenging, but fair, layout and a change of pace from the usual flat Florida courses. I love the elevation changes. The course is usually in decent shape but today a number of tee boxes were a bit rough. The greens were all in decent shape and rolled nicely.

I do have a complaint about the course and it's not just from a one time experience, it's been a pattern for a while on Sunday mornings - tee times are stacked to too closely and play is consistently slow. The course was not busy this morning in the 8am hour yet there were groups on top of each other on the front 9. Today we had a group in front of us holding our foursome and the foursome in front of us up, yet they had an entirely clear hole in front of them. We called the clubhouse and requested the ranger to come ask them to pick up the pace but we never saw him and the pace remained slow the entire round. I do enjoy playing here and for around $30 it's a good value but I will most likely only play it during the week from now on to hopefully avoid the stacked Sunday tee times.

For $31 its worth playing

Got the tee time through GolfNow ($31 with tax). In the fall/winter in Orlando that's a decent rate. It's a fun and challenging layout. There's a number of doglegs and water holes and you can score well if you use smart course management. Long hitters can be fooled if they play from the middle tees if they don't pay attention to yardage and how far away landing areas are, especially on doglegs. There are no ball washers or cart girl on the course so be prepared. Course could use maintenance (some patchy areas, grass slightly long in some areas and on some tee boxes, some small rocks in bunkers, some bunker rakes were broken), but for the most part the greens were in good shape and for $31 bucks it's a good value.
