SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
Played On 03/26/2022Disappointing Conditions
I’ve played this course 30 times and for the time of year, maybe the worst shape I’ve seen it in at least going back a decade. Greens are usually pristine but now very splotchy, Playable still but not up to the usual standard. The rough around the greens is fine but the Bermuda that encompasses most of course is dead. Not dormant, dead. Fairways also look terrible. Bermuda is hardy so could come back but I’m afraid they may have lost it. For peak season and peak rates, the conditions are unacceptable. The best layout in the valley but this course needs serious work.
Valley of the Eagles Golf Club
Played On 10/07/2020Phenomenal routing but there are serious issues
I’ve been meaning to play here for some time and finally did as my home course was closed for aerification. First off, this course should be charging double what I paid and use the funds to fix the absurdly bad cart paths which are literally a joke. That being said, I’m not sure I’ve played a better public course in North East Ohio. Greens and fairways are in as good of shape as a lot of the private clubs in Cleveland and the layout is actually better. The routing is nothing short of phenomenal with only a handful of bad or mediocre holes. Aside from 10, the par 3’s are almost too difficult from the middle tees for anyone that isn’t low single digit but the rest of the course is relatively short and fun with strategic shot value you just don’t see on public courses. The pace of play was brutal enough that I would normally have left after six holes but the course was good enough to keep me wanting to see the next shot. In a few years, with the right management and capital put in improving the cart paths, this place could be truly special. I will be back. Fingers crossed they don’t screw this up.
The Golf Trails of The Woodlands - Panther Trail Course
Played On 11/30/2019Exceptional Back 9
Course plays surprisingly difficult for a resort course. A handful of straight forward par 4s and par 3’s but overall a great variety of holes that gets better as the round goes along with the closing 7 holes being exceptional. Lightly bunkered but small undulating greens and a number of forced caries over water create a risk reward course that is playable for high handicappers but still interesting for a scratch player. Although not kept in the same condition, IMO it’s actually a much better layout than the TPC course in the same area. Practice area is great as well. Looking forward to coming back.
Monument at Troon North Golf Club
Played On 10/05/2019Shockingly bad!!
Course being prepped for overseeding so wasn’t expecting much from fairway conditions but....greens with literally hundreds of ball marks is just embarrassing. I’ve played here numerous times before but I was shocked at how bad of an experience it was. Bev cart lady was rude and pace of play was ridiculously slow. When we finally saw a Marshall he said the first group showed up late and was still allowed to go off. Ok fine, but instead of making them skip a hole or two, they just let them go off 1 and they proceed to play slow. Are you kidding me? Troon should know how to manage a golf course since they supposedly are the experts in course management. After making the turn at 2hr and 45 we almost walked off. I would expect more out of a muni let alone the most expensive public course in the valley. One of my favorite tracks and I will likely never go back. Disappointed doesn’t even begin to describe it. Embarrassing is probably a more accurate description.

Played On 05/29/2017Pretty Nice
Better layout and conditions than I was expecting. A few boring holes but a number of interesting holes bordering the marshes which had great views (albeit somewhat gimmicky designs). Decent greens, more interesting holes than not, fair price, overall very good experience.

Played this course the day after playing May River. Not quite the same conditions and layout but for a quarter of the price, I was surprised how well it stacked up. Excellent greens, interesting layout, decent challenge from the tips. I will be back.
Thanks for the info! Planning a trip to AZ, and there sure are shockingly lots of mixed reviews for Troon (too bad)
