The Trophy Club of Atlanta
Played On 10/31/2014Good, short course
Course was in great shape. We were warned to stay out of the rough and in hindsight, I wish I had heeded that advice more. All in all, this is a short course. Several par 4 greens are driveable. Loved the elevation change.

I thought this was a good course, and for the money, a great one. Good variety of holes and makes good use of the terrain. Greens rolled well.
The Links at Southwind Country Club
Played On 10/25/2014Has potential but needs time
As the other reviews suggest, this course is in the midst of an improvement plan. And while it's not quite there yet, it does seem well on its way to being in better shape. The greens were by and large quite nice, as were tee boxes. Fairways had grass, but that was on top of rock-hard clay with significant contour; this resulted in wild bounces and strange kicks. The course is already challenging (mostly due to narrow fairways) but having what should be a great drive mysteriously bounce from the middle of the fairway into the woods is pretty frustrating. The layout of the course is appealing, with a good variety of holes and some great views. Once the course conditions improve over the coming months, I might consider coming back but the challenge of the course is what is most likely to keep me away.
Windswept Dunes Golf Course
Played On 10/12/2014One of the best non-private options on the Emerald Coast
Course was in great shape and there was almost no one on it! Expect a lot of waste areas, some blind landing areas and greens with serious undulation. Greens were aerated fairly recently but they were still quick (without being punishing).
Windermere Golf Club
Played On 10/05/2014Great course but unforgiving
This course has a lot of interesting holes and was in great condition. It's not particularly long but many of the hole designs limit your choices anyway so long hitters will feel they don't get to use that advantage all that much. My only complaint is that this course has no sympathy for the average golfer who might miss greens and fairways, even if only by a little. Plan for a lot of lost balls. The views more than make up for most of that frustration.
Mystery Valley Golf Club
Played On 09/28/2014Underappreciated course
I'm not sure I want to advertise what a find this course it, lest it lose its attractiveness. This is a solid course and a great play for the money. It was in really good shape and easily accessible from the city.
Cherokee Run Golf Club
Played On 08/17/2014Hardest course in the area
Beautiful course in great condition with interesting and challenging holes. The fairways are spectacular (the few times I visited them). The foundation of this course, though, is hard and fast greens. These are easily the fastest greens that I've played in the metro area and there is more undulation than meets the eye. The only downside is that the greens are also not very receptive to shots.
Sapphire National Golf Club
Played On 08/12/2014Perfect mountain course
This is exactly what you want from a mountain golf experience. Great use of terrain for challenge and views. All of the par 3s would be signature holes elsewhere. Even after three straight days of rain, the greens were quick. Only downside is lack of practice facilities. The brewing company on-site is a great option for 19th hole activities.
High Hampton
Played On 08/11/2014Tougher than you'd think
Don't let the shorter length fool you; they still manage to make the course challenging using narrow fairways and strategically placed trees to force certain shots. It plays fairly naturally for a fade shot shape (which made it really challenging for my draw). We did play after three straight days of rain so the greens felt like a waterbed. We also played right in front of the mowers so fairways were pretty shaggy. Playing in the shadow of Rock Mountain makes for great views.
Sky Valley Country Club
Played On 08/10/2014Great mountain course
This is a beautiful course that takes good advantage of the natural terrain for both interesting golf holes and spectacular views. Even o a Sunday afternoon, course was sparsely populated making for a great pace of play.
