The Pines at Lindsey Wilson
Played On 10/05/2022Shouldn't have even been open...
Arrived at the course. Was only told to not drive in the fairways because they had just been "redone"...then first hole green was covered in sand, but was playable. After that all the greens (other than the last 3) were all covered in sand, and pins had been thrown to the side of the greens. Got to the back nine and they had just dumped all the sand on the green and had not spread it. We had to skip the next 6 holes because it was not playable. Before taking our money, this should have been explained. Course should have worked 9 holes and kept the other open. This is not the first time there have been lack of communication in regards to conditions. We love playing there, but no more. You just never know whether the course will be playable. For me, it's a no go for a VERY long time!!
Dogwood/Pines at TimberCreek Golf Club
Played On 07/10/2022Great staff, good course, terrible greens
Got a hot deal and was allowed to play earlier. Friendly staff. Overall course was good except the greens and bunkers.... probably the worst I've ever played in 33 years.
Also no beverage cart ever made it around to me, despite a sign stating that they had one...so not sure why considering it was an incredibly hot day.
They were allowing a ton of people to play together (at one point saw 7 in a group).
Glad I didn't pay full price. But again, for the money, not too bad...just no putting or bunker play.

Played this course a lot growing up. I've moved away and like to come back for nostalgic purposes. Course was not in very good shape with long fairways and slow greens, but that I can handle. The $50 price tag was a lot, but again, getting to reminisce over past experiences with my father and son, I can handle that. What was incredibly disappointing was the terrible attitude of a young man in the pro shop. My father, a 65 year old man who was getting over a recent fall, drove close to his ball to play the shot. It was either that or try to walk it, and he chose to drive up near the ball. He parked in the rough near the practice green, played his shot, and then got the cart back to where it needed to be. The young man in the shop came out and proceeded toward the green. However, his approach was terrible. I heard him tell my dad that he can't be driving there. I responded with an apology and said we won't do that again, but that wasn't enough for him, he made a point to tell my dad exactly what he'd done and that he can't be doing that anymore.
The frustrating part was he came all the way down from. The clubhouse to call out a local rule infraction to my father, despite me already conceding the point. And the fact that there were multiple groups of more than 4 golfers (also against the rules), and people out there driving wherever they wanted. So he singled out my elderly father, for what?
I've been playing there since 1996, and use to enjoy it, but not anymore. Apparently they will cater to the tourist crowd, and not the ones that supported that location whenever tourism suffered at various times. It's a shame, the pro Tim has always ran a tight ship so this was surprising. Much better value to play at Burnside, which will be where I recommend everyone to play if in Somerset.

Played On 05/07/2018Great course, average conditions, poor etiquette
So the course layout is great, and I understand it doesn't filter water well, so the course is in rough conditions.
The worst part, and the part that will keep me away for a long time, is the etiquette of the regulars.
We started to tee off, but a group of members went off in a group of 8. The very friendly staff let us go off the back. We played the hole, driving to our balls, and finishing the hole. Someone in a golf cart stopped by the green as we putted out. As we approached the cart, the guy said they were cart path only. I apologized, and stated that I was not aware, and that we would follow that rule. His response was "well there's a sign at the front desk"...in the most accusatory and rude manner. THAT was not appreciated. The staff at the desk didn't know who that would have been, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume it was a local person who thinks they know the game of golf. I've played since I was 7, and over the past 30 years, most have been at this course, before and after the renovation...and my father even longer.
The second thing, is that we played the back nine in about an hour and a half, playing well...then got behind 3 groups, playing best ball, that never once apologized, offer to let us play through, and were in their little world. I get it...we play quickly, but play ready golf. It took over 3 hours to play our second nine.
I can get over poor conditions, I have always enjoyed the staff at this course over the prior 30 years, BUT the level of slow play, and rude attitudes, cannot be forgotten.
I have other local friends that have sworn off this course for this reason, and now, so have I. I hate it, I love the challenge this course presents, BUT I deal with rude people in my job daily, and will not, while enjoying a past time.
The Legacy
Played On 02/13/2018Great value for a good challenge
Course is in off season condition, but the greens were rolling true. Only issue was the placement of several pins. The course, from the back tees, is still relatively short, and I reckon this was the only way to protect it from lower scoring...However, several were in indefensible locations. I enjoyed the challenge, and posted a decent score, but for most higher handicaps, that couldn't have been fun at all.
The River Club
Played On 07/26/2017Great staff makes up for a lot.
Played here yesterday, and overall was a decent experience. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Course conditions were nothing like what I am use to, the grass is so spongy, and the greens are ungodly slow.
Worst part though, was the pace of play. Playing as a single, I know I'm gna get behind someone, BUT followed the most rude foursome, that sat there and watched me bake in the sun, and continued to read 2 ft putts as if it were to win The Open. No ranger was ever seen. This made the experience a million times worse. You're gna have a few rude groups, but there was no policing the course. I could have dealt with the conditions, I expected those in July, but to wait 15 mins before hitting a shot, in 95° heat, made the experience a total disappointment.
Willow Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/17/2017Great course, superbly challenging!
I played this course for the first time this past summer. I was trying out different courses for a USGA qualifier, and this was one of them. Drove 4 hours to play it, and was duly impressed!
The greens and length make this course! I tend to find a lot of layouts that provide a shot for shot challenge, still have the length, and provide exceptional greens...this is one of them!
I've never played greens as slick as these were that day. However, they were fair once you got the speed down. Took awhile to get use to how receptive they were on spinny chip shots as well.
Will absolutely be visiting again once the weather gets warmer!
