Mt Hawley Country Club
Played On 09/19/2016Mt. Hawley - Beautiful Private Course
Mt. Hawley is a beautiful private course located in the middle of Peoria, IL.
The course is quite challenging with some of the fastest greens in the area and some narrow fairways. Mt. Hawley has a great deal of character and there are several holes that make you pause to take in the compact, tree lined layout prior to teeing off. This is definitely a course you want to put some thought into as opposed to the "grip it and rip it" mentality you can get away with at other area courses.
The clubhouse is beautiful and the staff at Mt. Hawley is top notch. The course offers a driving range (only ~200 yards or so) and a fantastic putting green.
If you get a chance to play Mt. Hawley in Peoria I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Kellogg Golf Course
Played On 09/02/2016Major Improvement at Kellogg
I must give credit where credit is due... the Peoria Park District has heard the numerous complaints and has greatly improved the way Kellogg Golf Course is being managed.
Previous issues with slow play have been worked on and the pace of play over the past few months has been average to good.
This is fantastic news for the Peoria golf community. Kellogg is by far the crown jewel of the Peoria Park District's golf course lineup and it truly is an enjoyable layout. The course is almost always in very good shape and they're very intelligent about when to not allow carts out (several holes do not have cart paths and are susceptible to cart damage in soggy conditions) and when to close the course for the day entirely.
The course itself is moderately challenging but not overly daunting. There are holes that offer decisions/challenges to golfers of any skill level (the par 5 8th hole is a great example). Greens are typically a little slow but not unfair. If you arrive early and take time to roll a few putts on the practice green it is usually a fair representation of the actual speed for the day.
The snack shop and clubhouse facilities are adequate for a public course but unspectacular. Kellogg's putting green is nice and well kept. The Park District's Golf Learning Center across the street is a great resource for those looking to hit a bucket of golf balls or work on their short game prior to their round.
Overall, I recommend Kellogg to anyone looking for an enjoyable, fairly priced round in the Peoria area.
Kellogg Golf Course

We were told the afternoon was "wide open" so no tee time would be needed. We immediately drove to the course to play. This could not have been further from the truth.
3.5 hours into the round we had completed 12 holes. The course was completely overloaded with slow 4-somes. There was a Marshall driving around, but I'm not entirely sure what he was doing. He certainly wasn't trying to speed anyone up or enforce golf etiquette. It's a shame... it's a decent (but overpriced) course... but we will not be back. No time for a 6 hour round of golf (with cart) on a Saturday afternoon.
