Holmes Harbor Golf Club
Played On 09/15/2015Total surprise
I was recently on Whidbey for a vacation and found some time to squeeze in a quick round. Chose Holmes strictly by location. As I pulled into the parking lot, I was very dubious about the potential round. If you go, don't let the "clubhouse" put you off. Just pay your green fee and get ready to play a unique round of golf. Yes, the bunkers are over grown w weeds and some of the rough areas are terrible, but the bones of this course are amazing. It's definitely not an "executive" course. No, you can't hit the driver on every hole, but it's plenty long to make it a legitimate test of golf. A little context...I'm a 6 handicap and play 80-100 rounds per year. This course made me think and plan and execute more than most. I honestly used every club in my bag. The elevation changes, doglegs, and tilted fairways make for a fun and interesting round. My only caveat is unless you are in great shape, don't try to walk this beast. The hills will have you breathing so hard that you can barely putt.
