Sewailo Golf Club
Played On 03/25/2019Take a chance
Wanted to play this course; heard good things. 2 pm tee time meant we might not finish. Would have except for an extremely slow foursome two groups ahead. This course could use marshals because we would have finished if that group were monitored. Nice layout; not too difficult, wonderful staff and amenities. Just frustrated at pace of play.
DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
Played On 09/13/2018Fun Round
First time playing; brought two friends (one had played the course previously). Really pleased with the greens. Staff was great and the pace was wonderful (early tee time helped). Want to bring my wife to play next. Very good value.
Pacific Grove Golf Links
Played On 07/28/2018Always a treat
We play here often (weekly) and this time took friends. Only black eye was lack of riding carts when we checked in for noon-ish tee time. There was a tournament that AM apparently, so that explains the low cart levels. Weather was typical Monterey peninsula weather; foggy, breezy and cool. Good staff at PGGL; lunch was good as well.

Wonderful second visit. Fairway and greens in very, very good shape. Pace of play was great. The driving range was closed for the day, so we got off early which was a plus. When we finished, we decided to stay for lunch. Outstanding service and it was fun to see a ton of golf kids enjoying the place (which may have been why the driving range was closed - they used it). Great to see a club host so many youngsters. Course is a great value
Merlot/Chardonnay at Poppy Ridge Golf Course
Played On 07/04/2018Busy Day
Played here the first time on July 4. In addition to the holiday crowd, we followed a very slow threesome that ended up combining with another threesome (they were there together) and we had to follow those six the last three holes. No marshals anywhere.
5 1/2 hours for the round. We enjoy Poppy Hills so we wanted to try Poppy Ridge. 2+ hour drive from home, so we don't plan to return.
Hunter Ranch Golf Course
Played On 06/16/2018Overpriced
Though the weather was lousy (cold, cloudy, very windy) the course was too expensive for its condition. The tee boxes are badly beaten up and the fairways were dry. I'd heard nice things about Hunter, so perhaps my expectations were too high. We finally bit the bullet and paid their walking rate, but were quickly sorry we did. Other PR clubs are a much better value, especially when the weather is windy much of the time in early summer. Won't play here again.
Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/28/2018Fun Course
This was our first time at BCGC; fun track, not difficult. As this is tucked in the redwood forest, the fairways can be narrow, but they are short, so don't need your driver often.
Lots of par 3s, and the par 4 and 5s are reachable. Fairways were in very good shape, but the tee boxes were a bit beaten up.
But for a great location, perfect warm weather and very friendly staff, it was well worth the drive to play.
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2018Wonderful Course
Hadn't played here in years, but it's as challenging as I remembered. Perfect early-AM weather. Though tucked in between 2-foursomes, my wife and I got to play alone and enjoyed the morning. Not rushed and not pushed; the round was fine. Though it took 4.5 hours, we were not in a hurry to go anywhere so we could enjoy a perfect Saturday round. Nice staff; also had lunch at Bogey's.
San Juan Oaks Golf Club
Played On 03/29/2018What a gem
Heard of this course (positive review from a friend). I agree - the fairways are like carpet and in great shape. Though the greens are punched (the only reason the course conditions are rated "good" above), they should end up in great shape, too. Nice layout; the back nine wraps around a hill and the surrounding landscape is tranquil and beautiful.
Staff was great and the clubhouse was a real nice surprise. This course is a real gem. We'll be back.
Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
Played On 02/06/2018Don't bother
Fairways over-watered and muddy. Layout is very hilly; not a flat lie it seemed. A friend recommended it and had played there once before. But I was not impressed. Pace slow and carts are in very poor condition.
Carmel Valley Ranch Resort
Played On 12/31/2017Beautiful Experience
This was our (my wife and I) second time playing and it was even better than the first time. Though she's an "advanced beginner," she really enjoyed the course (and played great!). The back nine is unlike any other in the area - beautiful vistas, wonderfully elevated tee boxes and a pleasure to play.
Pace was perfect: what a great way to usher out 2017
Carmel Valley Ranch Resort
Played On 12/10/2017Wonderful 1st Visit
We've wanted to play this course for a couple of years and finally got the chance. The course is in great shape (fast greens, too) and the weather was spectacular, especially for December.
My wife, an "advanced beginner" golfer, had a wonderful time. I loved the layout (the back nine was just as spectacular as we had heard). Don't walk this course, though; it's a real workout. But with a cart, it's a treat. The views from some of the tees are unbelievable. We were paired with novice golfers on the front nine, so that impacted our pace of play. I wouldn't recommend this course for beginners; too challenging for them.
Great pro shop staff and facilities, too. We'll be back.
