Chicora Country Club
Played On 07/09/2020Very nice layout
Front nine: wide open, no surprises, level fairways, not much trouble to get into. Second nine: much different, elevation changes, sloping fairways, a few blind shots. Greens are small and in very good shape, having been aerated a few weeks ago. Very good value. I'll rreturn.
Southern Pines Golf Club
Played On 11/21/2019A Donald Ross gem
I had heard many good things about this course and finally had a chance to play it. I was not disappointed. Typical of Ross designs, it's fairly straight forward tee to green;; it's the green complexes that provide the challenge. This layout has lots of elevation changes. The greens are tricky with undulations and subtle breaks galore and are well bunkered. I recommend playing this course when in the Sandhills. I will definitely play it again.
Hyland Golf Club
Played On 03/05/2018Over priced
Although overall course conditions were average for this time of year, greens were very good, being hard and fast. But at $55, it's somewhat overpriced. I won't go back at these rates.
Reedy Creek Golf Course
Played On 02/20/2018Good course, moderate challenge
The course was in pretty good condition for this time of year. The greens, though, were inconsistent and spotted with weed growth. Bunkers below average condition. I've always enjoyed playing here and will come back. Their new pro shop /snack bar is a big improvement over previous.
Reedy Creek Golf Course

The greens here are the best feature: they're Bermuda and very true and fast. The fairways are generous except for a couple of holes and in very good condition for this time of year.
Quail Ridge Country Club
Played On 08/11/2016Going downhill
Unfortunately, the hot humid summer has impacted the last remaining positive of this course; they're losing many of the greens and some are showing noticeable patches of poa annua. The fairways are still very poor, as well. To make today's game a little more frustrating, the golf shop allowed a fivesome to tee off in front of us, at prime summer tee time, 8:30. This will be my last trip to Quail Ridge this year. I hope they are able to rescue the greens and put more into general upkeep because it can be a fun track when in good condition.
Sanford Golf Course
Played On 07/28/2016A gem of a course
Sanford Golf Club, an old Donald Ross course, provides everything you would expect from a Ross design; little trouble from tee to green, but very tricky once you get there. The greens are tiny and very subtly contoured. It's a challenge and a real joy to play. And the rates are unbelievably low. This course is one of my favorites now and I'll go back often.
FYI....poa annua will not grow in the summer heat, so the condition you are describing is not poa annua. It may be something else, but certainly isn't what you describe.
