Skytop Lodge - Poconos Golf Course
Played On 6/26/2013This course is varied and challenging.
We played late afternoon on a weekday and the conditions were great. I only wish my game was as good. The fairways were pristine as were the greens, and the rough was penal. Some of the fairways slope in one direction or another, and that made holding the fairways tough. A good drive could easily wind up in the rough.
Blue/Red at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort
Played On 4/21/2013Interesting, challenging holes over relatively flat terrain.
Greens were pretty fast for April play, although the red course had some greens in poor shape (but grass was growing and should improve).
A stiff wind made this course play longer and that made it challenging.
Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club
Played On 3/30/2013Great Course- Ambassador
On March 30th the new grass had yet to start growing, but the course was firm (unlike other area courses that are wet in Spring), clear of debris, and the greens were in good shape considering how early it was. Can't wait to come back in June/July.
I like the course because each hole offers a unique challenge even though the track is fairly level. Holes that look easy can creep up and bite you with a double bogey if you are not careful.
Morgan Hill Golf Course
Played On 11/18/2012Great challenging course to play.
The course takes full advantage of the ups and downs of the Morgan Hill area of Easton. The front 9 is fairly straight-forward, but the back 9 is full of challenge for any level golfer. Several blind shots, and on one hole, I had trouble finding a landing zone for my second shot onto a par 5.
Still a challenging, fun time.
The Inn At Pocono Manor - East Course
Played On 10/21/2012West Course: Long, open, no hazards
The West Course is a fun course to practice your game on. The fairways are wide open, with lots of room between fairway and the woods, and is generally in good shape. The greens are clean, very receptive, but slower than many other courses. No bunkers and no water hazards; just a few mounds with long fescue to avoid.
Because the course is long (6700 yards from the whites) I find I am approaching greens from 190-210 yards on some par 4s. This requires an accurate shot to hit what is usually a smallish green. If you miss the green in regulation, then it's the challenge to get up and down to save par.
This is what I find fun about this course.
Southmoore Golf Course
Played On 9/13/2012Very interesting course with a variety of holes.
Southmoore is a well-maintained course, and play moves along nicely. The rough can be very penalizing, which is as it should be. The holes are all different, and the variety keeps you on your toes. Usually the greens are fast and true with some having a lot of slope. Be in the wrong place and you can 3-putt easily.
Stone Meadows Golf Course
Played On 8/19/2012Nice short course that is improving under new management
I feel the greens are the best feature of this course. That said they are small and require great approach shots to be on the green in regulation. When it is dry it plays completely different than when it is wet. The fairways unfortunately have areas with depressions that collect rain and kill the grass and make fairway shots demanding. I like this course as a place to go practice- keep it in the fairway, get it on the green, sink some putts. And above all else have some fun. For an easy course, if you get out of position it can cost you strokes.
Agree with the fast greens and I like fast greens. Made chipping tough however. My issue is with pace of play. Reputation is that it is a slow playing course. That is what we found and a 5 plus hour round of golf that took away from a nice golf course and the experience.
