About

Started golfing when I was 5, I was a former CPGA professional, now just playing for the love of the game like when I was a kid. Still got the hands and short game after all these years, and still find the fairway most of the time. Once was a scratch golfer, now play to 5 to 8 on any given day.
My game has become more "safe" than when I was in my teens and 20's, although I still like to let the big dog eat when the right situation arises.

I am always in search of the next great course to play around the world. Have been fortunate enough to play some of the better courses in North America and the Caribbean.

Old Time Favourite

The course was in great shape, staff friendly and attentive as usual. However the ruff was very long as others have mentioned which really slowed play down, even the first cut was too long, you could be right over your ball and cant find it. WP is one of the best layouts and courses in Canada as far as im concerned. There were plenty of carts for a mid morning tee off, and had good covid protocols in place.

Wow!

I played this course while on in DR for my wedding. It was either Punta Espada or Teeth of the dog. I was not disappointed from the minute we arrived.

I played with my cousin in law, who is a good golfer as well.

We were picked up at Majestic Elegance in PC, and driven to the course which took about 45 mins. We were transferred mid ride along the highway to another vehicle which was odd but none the less we got there. Tipped the last driver $10 when we got there.

Upon arrival our clubs were taken and put on the cart and we checked in and paid. We were introduced to our Caddie Esah. The course wasn't busy at all, and were given ample time to warm up and hit some balls. The guy on the range whom we tipped $5 bucks each cleaned our clubs while we hit balls.

The Course: Picturesque and Scenic to say the least. Amazing view and photo ops on every hole. You almost forget to play golf and not take photos.

Greens: Excellent
Fairways: Excellent to Good
Rough: Good to Great and not too deep.
Difficulty: Depending on what tees you play the course is set up for the challenge that you want.
Pace: Finished in 4 hours, could have been less if we took less pictures.
Value: Yes expensive, especially for Canadians, but well worth the money. Comparable to what I assume Pebble Beach would be like in some respects. How this course isn't ranked higher is baffling.
ProShop: Well stocked, clean, modern, nice options for souvenirs. Got a Titleist hat for $37 US, not bad at all.
19th Hole: Average food, typical quick snack food. The beer was cold, view and the company were Excellent.

I recommend this course be on your list to play next time in the DR. I would definitely go back for the view and to see if I can improve my score.

It was Free, so that counts right?

Stayed at the Majestic Elegance and had complimentary rounds for my grooms men and I to play golf before the wedding.

I brought my clubs as I always do, but rental clubs for those who were renting were $40 US. They were good clubs from Titleist to Taylor and Calaway in decent shape but not excellent, but that's ok seeing the amount of people that must come over from the resort.

Had to pay $48 US each for carts, which is a rip off by any standard in the world where I have played.

For example I played at the Iberostar Grand Course last year and paid nothing, all was included with the hotel, 2 free rounds in fact.

The range was like a goat pasture for tee blocks.
The course overall was in ok shape, kind of like playing a municipal course. There were some nice holes and some neat ones as well.

The pace was super slow to start and the group in front who were playing skins were taking for ever. All of my guys and I after the second hole played as a 5 some to make it bearable. If we didn't do that it would have been ridiculous as there were no marshals and no one else even on the course in front. Once we got to #10 the guys in front let us through and we finished the final 9 in under 2 hrs as a five some LOL. All the while I still shot 76.

We had a great time and enjoyed the company and laughs. I don't think I would be back to play here again unless it was completely inclusive of all costs not just the green fee.
