About
I'm an older golfer with bad knees and a shouklder from racing mountain bikes. So I do not drive far, therefore I tend to enjoy a round of 5300ish yards. I will play whichever teebox puts me close to that even if it is the very far forward ones. I watch WAY too many people playing fron tees they have no business on....and then hitting fiarway woods into every par 4 with little chance of reaching......LOL, silly macho stuff. I'm out to have a good time...not prove something.

Canyon West Golf and Sports Club
Played On 07/28/2017good layout
there are some fun and interesting holes here. Challenging yet fair. I come from a golf background several "careers" ago....built two courses. I like the routing here...very fun to play.
Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
Played On 07/23/2017Usually play the Bridges side
But I keep forgetting how much fun the Lakes course is. Now granted....you gotta hit some good shots......but when don't you...LOL. Great layout with some risk/rewards. green were in good shape.

Buffalo Creek Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2016always fun
Wished I lived closer...but I do drive to play this course several times a year. For winter it was in great shape. tons of roll on the fairways and the greens were smooooth and fast.
Cleburne Golf Links
Played On 02/07/2016nice layout
Had read the good reviews and wanted to try this one out. Nice wide fairways........not a lot of trouble unless you really mishit a shot. Greens were in very good shape for winter. I will be back again.....want to see this place in the spring and summer.
Mansfield National Golf Club
Played On 01/25/2016greens in great shape
The greens right now might be some of the best in DFW. The whole course was in good shape for the winter...but the greens were outstanding. And I used to be a superintendent...worked in the industry for 20 years.
Stonetree Golf Club
Played On 09/27/2015Gave it a try
Was heading to Austin for a job. Reviews sounded good , so I figured why not. Nice surprize...very nice course. Greens are superb and fairway are nice and wide...AND GREEN with GOOD STAND OF GRASS. Only thing I didn't like was allowing 5 somes on a Sunday....slowed down play. When my job was over.....I played this course again on my way back to Dallas. I will swing through Killeen from now on when heading south.
Blackhawk Golf Club
Played On 09/19/2015needs work
The back nine is in much better shape than front. Overall, not bad but some issues with weeping heads and wet spots. Weed problems. My main complaint....played late afternoon....NO WATER in any cooler..not even the one in the clubhouse????? It is a fun layout and generally in decent shape...wouldn't take much to improve it.
Grand Oaks Golf Club
Played On 08/19/2015still good
Will keep playing as long as it stays in the current condition. Roughs were nice....slight penalty for missing fairway but not brutal. Fairways and greens were very good. Many bunkers were being worked on...which for me is fine...got a free drop as they were not playable...LOL. Overall, a vrey good deal.
Sunset Golf Club
Played On 07/30/2015quick round
great place to go practice. Family owned since beginning of time...LOL. Basic 9 hole course...nothing fancy. Fairways and tees are mostly common bermuda and decent. Greens are in pretty good shape though a tad slower than other area greens...but smooth. Perfect place to take a new golfer as the prices won't kill you and they will not lose a ton of balls.
Stewart Peninsula Golf Course
Played On 07/13/2015always fun to play here
Interesting rounds here with the duo-greens. I like having a couple extra pars 3's also.
Hills at Pecan Valley Municipal Golf Course
Played On 07/03/2015Slow
But it is a muni and July 3rd..so I was expecting it to be slow..but it was sloooooooow...LOL. The course is fun and in really nice shape. There is a small amount of elevation change which was nice. I will be back to play again. The greens were very very nice and rolling very true.
Van Zandt Country Club
Played On 06/15/2015surprised
Pleasant surprise. The greens were very very nice. Wide open fairways, and the collars and approaches were in good shape. I will come back again.
Old at Firewheel Golf Park
Played On 06/10/2015not as good as the others
Dollar for dollar I'd play Lakes or Bridges(my fav) before this one again. I'm an ex golf course super and was saddened by the amount of carts driven around the greens and tees. Guys so close that they could step from cart onto teebox...a SHAME. Teeboxes littered with broken tees. Huge areas of dirt around greens due to everyone parking there under the trees. No marshal to enforce proper edicate. While i would not "recommend" this as a must play.....it is fine for a cheap round to get in some practice.
Twin Lakes Golf Course
Played On 06/01/2015Love this place
I love a course with a few blind shots...makes you really think. Very nice layout of holes with nice bunkering. Wide fairways and some forced carries will keep you excited hole to hole. There are great views of the many lakes from most of the holes. One thing....IMPORTANT...... .keep your balls below the hole......mega fast greens. If you find yourself above a hole...you will most likely have a 6-7 ft second putt back uphill. I'm a pretty good putter...if you are not...this course will tear you up if you do not stay below the holes. This was my first time here...and I will be back many more times.
Hidden Creek Golf Club
Played On 05/21/2015always good
with all the resent rain I planned on sloshing around...course wasn't that bad. Greens had been airified and were pretty close to completly healed, so they were rolling OK. Good mix of holes and you have to really have to work your way around this place......can't just smash it.
Coyote Ridge Golf Club
Played On 05/19/2015Well designed course.
Holes have lots of character with some risks and rewards. Will be back here to play often. I like a course that makes you think about your shots.
Tangle Ridge Golf Club
Played On 05/17/2015Fun track
Always enjoy this course. Holes 6, 14, 17, 18 are beautiful from the tees. Nice elevation changes require you hiting to specific spots on some holes. Nice large smooth rolling greens help make this a really fun place to play. I'm an older golfer that doesn't drive very long and tend to play the forward or next tees...which at some courses is difficult due to shape and designs of the holes. This course plays really cool from all tee boxes. Golfers of all levels will find both risks and rewards here and a very good challenge while still being enjoyable.
Old Brickyard Golf Course
Played On 05/16/2015interesting
some really cool routing of holes. nice elevation changes requiring placing the ball in the proper spots. Greens were in great shape and rolled very smoothly.
Mill Creek Golf Club - The Mill Course
Played On 05/03/2015Fun round
They have taken a 27 hole facility and re-routed 18 holes from it. Course was in good shape with some very interesting holes. Lots of water and forced carries made you have to pay attention to club selection. My only complaints were that signage could be better and yardages easier to find. My yardage app was no good since it kept showing holes no longer being used. If I carried a rangefinder...this would not have been a problem though...LOL. I plan to stop here often as I regularly travel from Dallas to Austin and this was both convenient and fun to play.
We're happy to hear that you feel our course is worth a commute! Thank you for your review. We hope to see you on the course again soon!
