Birch Hills Golf Course

Fun little par 59. Decent condition for the money. The turf reminds me of Skyjinks. Good grass coverage in most areas but short and firm. The ball runs out Links style. I enjoyed it.
Destroyer at Seal Beach Navy Golf Course
Played On 07/23/2021Very nicely manicured
Teed off at 2:33 PM and the greens were rolling great for an afternoon round and the fairways were perfectly manicured. Nice lush, tightly mowed kikuyu. Had perfect lies the whole day!

Kind of a hidden gem. They had a PGA Tour event here back in the day as well as a Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf here. Good 7000 yard test from the tips and great fairways, greens AND teeboxes. You wouldn’t expect it given the surroundings and being in the high desert but top 3 best conditioned courses I’ve played this year and I have played over 50 different ones. Also, on a Tuesday at 9am, there were 8 cars in the parking lot. Not sure how many of those were employees but I played by myself, kinda took my time reading putts and deciding on clubs, and finished in 2 hours 45 minutes. Was a lovely, quiet treat!
Skylinks Golf Course
Played On 09/21/2020Fun course
I enjoy playing Skylinks. The green complexes don’t have rough around them which allows for a variety of different shots to be played including the ol’ Texas Wedge from 20 yards. Course is in good shape but they are aerating on 9/28. My only complaint here is that the GPS on the carts is wrong 90% of the time. It will show the pin on the screen as back right and give you the yardage as such when it’s clearly a front left pin. I suggest paying attention instead to the front of green and back of green numbers and adjust accordingly. Either that or use alternate means to get your yardage. I tried the 18 Birdies app this time and it worked great and I hit 12 greens and was quite often dead pin-high.
Wilson at Griffith Park Golf Courses
Played On 09/04/2020Wilson
First time playing Wilson. Course was in better than average condition and place of play was 3:55. Teed off at 7:35am on Friday, finished at 11:30. Would play again!
Los Lagos at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/14/2020Fairways and greens are noice!
Course is in nice shape for as much play as it gets. Greens rolling really nice. Only complaint was an illegal pin on #5. It was places on a slope that was too severe. I had about 30 feet down the hill, no way to stop it. It went 10 feet by which isn’t the issue. The second put, straight back up the hill, looked like it was going in, stopped one inch short and then came backwards towards me about a foot and a half. That’s some BS.
We love hearing about our golfers' experiences. Please tell us more about what you enjoyed during your round. Thanks for choosing Los Lagos at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club!
Rio Hondo Golf Club
Played On 06/25/2020#PURE
I’ve played the Hondo about a dozen times over the past 10 years. Today was the best shape I’ve ever seen it in. Greens were awesome. A little on the quick side, especially above the hole, and really smooth. Fairways are pretty good for a public course and the rough, although lush, was cut at a reasonable height. $54 with a cart is a pretty good value considering the course and it’s condition. If you happen to see a Hot Deal, jump on it because there’s not much better value out there!
Thank you for your review, Sicktight311. We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Rio Hondo Golf Club. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Santa Anita Golf Course
Played On 05/27/2020First time here
Came out to play here for the first time because of Erik Anders Lang’s YouTube vlog of the course. Interesting design. Tons of mounds in the fairways. Apparently there are old train cars under the fairway and lots of the fairways have rather large mounds in them which make for some interesting bounces and sidehill lies. The greens were in good shape, rolled smooth and held good shots well but they were a little hairy and most of my groups putts for the day were coming up short, even on the back 9 when we knew they were slow. Overall, had a nice time. Not a course I would tell someone they should play but it’s worth a look just to cross it off the list.

Angeles National Golf Club
Played On 08/14/2019Great track!
First time playing the only Nicklaus design in La County and I enjoyed it. The condition of the course was great. There were a few semi-dryed spots in a couple fairways but that’s all I could even attempt to complain about which, considering it’s the middle of the summer, is a minuscule complaint. Great course, good food and beverage, would play again. Especially for the $33 Hot Deal I got!
The Links at Summerly
Played On 07/23/2019Under Improvement
Three holes were closed due to sodding in the fairways. This course used to be a dirtpile but they are finally getting they fairways worked on. Greens are generally good with a couple bare spots. Bunkers were good but had several small rocks and pebbles, not sure if this is common for links courses. Overall, if they get some good grass growing here, it could be a nice track.
Victoria Golf Course
Played On 07/22/2019Shame
It’s really a shame that they can’t grow grass in the fairways in this dump because it’s a good layout and could be a great public course if they could figure out a way to grow.

Destroyer at Seal Beach Navy Golf Course
Played On 06/18/2018Work in progress
They are fixing something with the lake in front of the 12th green so the lake is dry and they are playing the hole with a temp green and it’s playing about 250 yards. The lake left of the landing area on 13 is also dry. Aside from that, the course was nice and green, better than normal grass coverage this year (been playing here since the late 90’s) and the greens were holding and rolling well, although a touch slower than normal for Navy. Well worth the $32 I paid for the round with a cart, great value there.
