Black Bear Golf Club
Played On 09/20/2023Tragic course
I love the layout on this course, however, it appears to have suffered from years of neglect. The greens were playable, but the fairways, rough, and tee boxes are barely maintained. There was one kid who was very hard working and friendly running the whole course. No other staff on site. It’s a shame. The other reviews here are accurate, it has so much potential and was probably a great course 20 years ago. Unfortunately, it needs a ton of work and money put into it. If it was properly maintained, I’d come back to play again.
Cider Ridge Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2023Work trip
While on a trip for work, we decided to try to get a round in before some really nasty weather rolled in. This was the first time I’ve played in Alabama, so I was unsure what to expect. The course was wet from recent rain, so we had to stay on the cart paths. The grass was all dormant and therefore brown, which if you play up north in the summer, brown grass means it’s as hard as a rock. Not the case in Alabama in the winter! Even though they were brown, the fairways were exactly what you would expect on a nice course. The greens themselves looks like they were recently painted and had a deep green color. They were in outstanding condition. I didn’t see any ball marks on the greens. The course layout was a little bit of everything. Elevation changes, water, sand, etc. I could see myself making a trip in a future winter to come back and play this course. Well worth the drive.
Candlestone Inn Golf & Resort
Played On 09/03/2021Great day golfing
The course was well groomed and the staff was very friendly. The greens were fast. Seemed to have a lot of scuff marks, but the ball rolled well, so no worries. Just a weird thing though, we tee’d off at 9am. 3 or 4 holes during our round had the sprinklers on in the middle of the fairway. Not sure why they would be running them in the middle of a busy Friday morning.
The one complaint I would have is the practice area. The range balls are horrible. I got a small bucket from the machine prior to my round. 3 of the balls were severely cut. None of the practical balls match and they’re in generally horrible shape. They also have a short game practice area, which is cool, but it was peppered with balls laying all over. To use it effectively, I would have had to pick up 50 or 60 balls laying all over. It would have been nice to just have a shag bag or something laying there to use.
Overall, a good experience. The food afterwards was great!
Pilgrim's Run Golf Club
Played On 05/07/2021Very impressive course.
This was the first time I played this course. After getting to my cart, I found a large bucket of balls to practice/warm up prior to my round. The range is big and well groomed with plenty of targets. The starter was friendly as well as the entire staff.
The course itself is challenging. You really need to think about strategy. Every hole is not a reason to pull the big dog out. The greens are beautiful. I highly recommend this course and plan to return.
The Links At Edmore
Played On 07/19/2019Open layout. You won't loose many balls!
This course has a lot of back and forth holes. It has an open layout, so if you hit a bad shot you'll just be in the next fairway. There aren't a lot of hazards and the layout is fairly straight. Two ponds on #1. A couple of sand traps on a few other holes. It's just a nice basic course. There was one green with a large long strip of damage. It looked like they replaced the turf and it just hasn't grown in yet. The fairways are average for this type of course. Aside from that, I really like playing here.
The Tradition at Treetops Resort
Played On 06/24/2019Gorgeous course
This is the most inexpensive of the courses at Treetops. We played between bouts of rain. There were only a couple other groups on the course at the time, so we didn't have to wait for anyone. In fact, we were able to tee off about a half hour early, which was great. The fairways are wide and well groomed. The greens were fast. Everything looked good and I'd definitely come play this course again.
Threetops Par-3 at Treetops Resort
Played On 06/24/2019I'll make the trip to play this course again!
We played between rainstorms, so the course was wet. It didn't change the fact that this course is gorgeous and very challenging. People think par 3's are easy and most times they are, however, this is not a typical par 3 course. The elevation changes from tee to green will have you guessing on your club distances. The hazards on each hole will punish every miss hit. I shot a terrible score, but loved every minute of it. I'll definitely make the drive back to Gaylord to play it again.
White/Blue at Eldorado Golf Course
Played On 06/19/2019Great place for an outing
I played this course in a 4 person scramble. The course was wet in spots, but that's no different than any other course in the area due to the recent rain. I really liked the layout. The fairways and greens looked great. I'll definitely come back and play this course again.
Village Green Golf Course
Played On 06/14/2019Scramble outing
I played in a scramble event. The course was really wet from the recent rain. There was standing water in several areas. The overall course layout is challenging. There are some narrow shots off the tees. Approach shots can be obstructed by tree branches sticking way out. I'd like to come back and play when everything is dried out. Overall, I had a great round.
Waabooz Run Golf Course
Played On 05/03/2019Great course
It was very wet today as it had rained last night. The greens and fairways were in terrific shape. The par 4's must be calculated from distances from the back tees(blue) and even then there are only 3 holes that are actually over 250 yards. They're pretty liberal with what they call a par 4. Overall, I had a great time and will likely return with my wife!
Hickory Hills Golf Course
Played On 04/24/2019Great value!
I really like this course. It's fairly short, with water hazards coming into play on three holes. It took me about an hour and 20 minutes to play 9 holes in a cart. The staff is very friendly.
St. Joseph Bay Golf Club
Played On 03/26/2019Terrible conditions
I'm not sure if this was hurricane damage or not, but the course was in horrible condition. The front nine was fair, but the back nine was almost unplayable. A few of the tee boxes were totally dirt. No grass. There was a par three on the back nine that had what I think was a temporary green that looked more like rough with a hole. I liked the layout of the course and would come back and play if the conditions were better, but as is, I would have played a different course. The price was too high for the conditions I experienced.
St. James Bay Golf Club
Played On 03/24/2019Not great for beginners.
We were staying on St. George Island for a few days and had brought our clubs with the expectation of playing some golf. We didn't have a little hiccup with the green fees. Their website said it was $40 at 1pm, but they told us that rate wasn't until 2pm. I showed them on my phone and they honored the price. Thank you.
The course is very challenging for beginner or less skilled players like me. You have to hit over a large area of thicket on almost every tee. Bring lots of golf balls. Not sure if I'd risk venturing too far into the bushes to look for lost balls as it's Florida and there's probably something that will eat you in there.
Overall I had an enjoyable round.
We are beyond happy to hear you enjoyed a great day at our course. Positive experiences make lifelong golfers. We look forward to many good times ahead with you, and we will pass on your kind words to those responsible so they can continue to help others enjoy great experiences at Pilgrim's Run Golf Club.
