A must play course, but it's expensive

First off, the staff was not as rude as alot of people made them out to be. They are following COVID policies and as long as you respect that, you will find they were very friendly and willing to talk about the course and your experience.

The course layout is absolutely beautiful. Some wider open holes littered with sand traps while some holes meandered through the woods. Alot of elevation change, dramatic shots and undulating fairways made this course a real beautiful challenge.

Tee boxes were great, no complaints. Fairways weren't as short as you'd expect for the money, but were somewhat fast and visually appealing. The greens were pretty quick, if I had to guess, no more than an 11. However, the grass was thin which made it really difficult to fix ball marks without fixing it so that it was half grass half dirt (you know what i'm talking about). Hence ball marks and cleat marks were very noticeable and visually unappealing, especially given the price point. But they did run quick and were pretty true. The sand was actually great, no complaints. No rakes due to COVID Rough was fair, but not uniform all over as you'd expect from a high end club. There were some weedy spots and straight burnt spots near and around the green. For the most part it was fine, but you'd be expecting country club conditions and it wasn't quite there.

Pro shop closed, dining closed, single rider carts and small PVC things in the cups to prevent the ball from falling (actually feels like real putting), due to COVID. And expect a 5 hour round. It's a tough course that attracts tourists (like myself).

This place is beautiful. Its fun to look at and it's definitely a challenge, especially if you play the tips. You'll remember every hole, but you'll also remember what you spent. It's not at all worth the $220. It's worth $140 at the very most. Rough and greens especially need to be healthier to fetch that price point. That's on price point with Atunyote and while PR may have a better design, the conditions just aren't there.

Always a favorite stop

We camped out for a tee time on the Black as we usually do. The course is always in great shape and is beautiful to look at. and that was no exception this time around. Tee boxes were great, no complaints. Same with the fairways. They weren't country club tight, but they were fast, firm and few divots. The greens are very lush, but they are not overly fast. Alot of ball marks, but that's on the public, not the course. The greens are healthy with a thick base which allows for balls marks to fix easily and not be noticed. The rough is thick, not overly long, but thick and very uniform throughout. You will never catch an unfair lie. The sand was soft, too soft. Get unlucky and catch the upslope or lip and your guaranteed to plug. No rakes either because of COVID. Cups had a small PVC pipe thing in it to prevent the ball from going all the way down. The pin was removable if you so wish though. The only negative is the range. Limited distance and mats do not instill confidence in your game before your duel with the black.

Excellent Experience

Played this course on 8/22/2020. It's always a treat to play Kaluhyat. The course is intimidating to look at but is often receptive to most incoming shots. It's visually pleasing while remaining difficult yet playable. Conditions are always great. The fairways were short, greens rolled fast and true (noticeably quicker than your typical public track, but not quit country club fast) and it was maintained well. The rough is as healthy as i've ever seen. Evenly cut throughout the entire course. Thick enough to make you hit a high cut into the green, but not as thick to where you need to hack out. The sand was average at best. It's not the fluffiest.

The clubhouse and the whole experience is great. The practice facility is as good as anywhere else, AND for a mere $100 more, we could have played Atunyote at the replay rate. Tremendous value.
