Nice course. Good value.

While it is a longer drive for some, once you get there you see a very new, well-maintained community with an attractive entry, good clubhouse, convenient driving range, and an overall appearance of freshness. The course is well laid out with options for experts and novices. Wide fairways in general, and mostly generous rough areas before the desert comes into play. A few holes on the back nine have hazards crossing the fairways (washes that you need to hit over). Fairway grass was sometimes tight (not overseeded maybe?), but was green (paint maybe?...not sure). Greens were in excellent shape. All in all, I really liked this course and enjoyed the experience.

Nice experience

This was a very nicely designed course, offering many low stress holes. Very user friendly, non-punitive, enjoyable course. It was well maintained, with true greens running at medium speeds. Some of the sand traps didn’t have enough sand. Otherwise, very good condition. Plenty of length depending on tees you choose. I really liked this course!

Very Pretty Course

Played Oasis/Desert. Course was in very good condition for September in Arizona. Bunkers were very good/excellent. Greens were consistent and firm enough. Fairways and rough were in good shape. And the visual appeal was high. The only negative was that much of the water on the course was dirty/stagnant in appearance, although I did not notice any mosquitoes or bad smell, so it must have been filtering a little bit.
This course was an excellent value for the money. The Phoenician is a top notch establishment, with great customer service. Overall, I would give this experience a 90-95%.

Fun Course with Great Scenery

I liked the greens, especially considering temps have been over 100 for a month. Course is in impeccable shape for June in Phoenix. At $30, this was a great value. It was hot, but the course has plenty of trees for shade. And the man-made lakes bordering almost every fairway or green attract beautiful waterfowl creating an oasis feel. Staff was perfectly kind and respectful, the waterfalls and ponds were all functional and pleasant, and the course was very fun to play. No negatives at all.

Gorgeous setting.....a gem.

The course was in great condition except for the greens. The setting is beautiful, and very accessible from the Tucson airport or downtown. Although there are some lower end neighborhoods in the area, Starr Pass feels very removed and tranquil. It sits up in the hills overlooking the Tucson Valley. From some holes one can see toward the airport, and from others toward downtown and U of A.
Back to the course......the greens were VERY slow, and bumpy from golfers dragging there feet in places. The staff made it clear that this was because the greens are being watered like crazy to keep the Bent grass alive, and to prepare for the winter season. They expect the greens to be pristine and much faster for the winter high season. But for now, slow as molasses.
The design of the course is very appealing. Very pretty, and nicely maintained fairways and rough. Lots of ups and downs. We played Coyote and Rattler.
Make it a point to sit out on the patio at the hotel after your round.
I would certainly come back again.

GREAT value for the price

I played this course after 3:00, so the price was $15 ($13 for Gold card holders). It is definitely HOT out at this time, so wear a large hat, and pour some cold water on your shorts, drink plenty of water, and you're good to go.

The course played easy, with lots of roll on the fairways, due to dried out conditions. They are still watering around the course to keep things relatively green, but its basically impossible with the blazing sun every day. I actually thought the course was in better condition than I expected given the 110-115 degree days we have had in the early summer. The greens were very green, but played slow and somewhat rough from all the unrepaired ball marks. Bunkers were in good shape. Tee boxes were a little rough in places...not always level everywhere. All in all, I would certainly come back and play this course again (and I have since then).
