Braemar Country Club
Played On 07/04/2019Braemar continues to be top value
As always a round at Braemar is a pleasant round. Staff is always nice and laid back and theres been a lot of work done to the place over the last several years to address drainage issues in the past. Course is a little stressed and diseased currently but thats to be expected for the price however they may want to at least apply fungicide to the greens to avoid summer and brown patch on the bentgrass. Also wish they had treated a few of the ash trees or had a better replacement plan in place as the emerald ash borer killed every ash tree on the course which is a shame as they were an amazing piece of the course. Braemar is usually on the lower end of the price spectrum but does provide a challenge in spots of the course. Clubhouse is newer and a huge upgrade over the old one that they used 10+ years ago.
Genesee Valley Golf Course - North
Played On 07/23/2017Expect to be here for a bit
Ive been here a few times now and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt before my review. Let me start of by saying that it is a fun course to play on that your average golfer wont have too much difficulty with but a better one can have some fun from the blue tees. It is an older course so dont expect anything too crazy to be thrown your way but there are definetly some tricky spots if you mess up. Greens are maintained well and theres not any major damage to them or things like crabgrass and weeds ad are the fairways so expect.decent conditions with those. Staff is friendly and responds to any questions or concerns and out of the city courses this one seems to be in the best shape as its in a better location and more protected from the elements. However some spots do need to be filled in a little bit and leveled out to avoid standing water as drainage is an issue in spots which from all the rain this year has created temporary ponds that are now completely diseased out with patch leaf spot blight etc. As they dry out. Course could use a few bunkers to make it a little more interesting. Also another problem which I always consider a big one is the pace of play. Dont expect to play this place in 4 hours on a typical day. People wont let you by and theres no ranger out to help the process along for 2 somes stuck behind 4 somes despite the fact its the 2nd course rule on the scorecard which has happened the last 2 times Ive been there to the point where the 1st time we called the clubhouse and last time we skipped the long par 5 15th cause the 2 groups in front of us werent halfway done with the hole and we were sick of waiting so that definetly should be worked on some. Otherwise I enjoyed myself and probably will end up coming back in the future for another round and to check out their pro shop which is always fun to look through. I give it a solid 3 stars though its probably a 3.5 if it was possible to rate that
Charleston Pines at Lima Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/16/2016Fun gem in Lima
Did a hot deal on golfnow and was very impressed with this course. Though it is exceptionally dry here and were in the midst of the worst drought in many years the course was still in playable condition and the greens and bunkers were very well prepared and groomed so they werent rock hard like many in the area are currently. Charleston Pines was a fun layout there were some interesting shots and layouts as we progressed our rd. We finished in under 3 hrs today as me and my friend are faster golfers and the 4some in front let us through. Staff was friendly and we joked around with a couple of them briefly. I would definetly go back and would love to play the course once we get some rainfall again in the area. I shot a 95 friend a 94. Both pleased overall
Braemar Country Club
Played On 07/09/2016Upgrades are taking shape
Out of any course Ive golfed Ive golfed here the most and theres a reason to it. The course is good for both beginners and pros. Theyve recently put a decent amount of money into the course and continue to do so upgrading drainage ponds, building a new finishing tee box, a completely new clubhouse and restaurant which blows the original one away and is one of the best in the area. As all courses in rochester right now this one is a little dry but theyve done well to maintain critical areas like the tees greens and approach shots which is better for this course as it can be disease prone in very wet seasons hence the new drainage ponds. Staff is very friendly and not at all uptight like some places can be. Ive made Braemar my home course since I started golfing and dont plan on having that change anytime soon especially with the work being put in on it. A typical rd is about 3.5 hrs Ive done in under 3 with a friend many times but can vary especially if you get behind an inconsiderate group which they need to monitor a little better... my only knock on the course
Twin Hills Golf Course
Played On 06/17/2016Fun hilly course with some scenery
Twin Hills is a little gem on ridge rd that has better course conditions typically than Braemar but a little shorter. Their twilight golf deal starts early which is nice if youve got 20 cash on you cause its possible to get 27 in during it. A couple of the holes are a little shorter which helps with the natural hilly terrain which theyve incorporated into the course nicely. Course is in decent shape though as with most this years exceptional drough has got some areas brown though when I went it still looked very good. My main knock is the pace of play could be better as its not really enforced there and gets chaotic during twilight golf in areas and backed up at times at par 3s. Lots of scenic shots with water and fun shots as well has me coming back to play a few times a year.
Thank you so much for the 5 Stars! Happy to see you were able to find a great deal on a tee time and come out and try the course. We look forward to having you back soon!
