Solid layout, horrible greens

I played in a tournament here last summer, and the greens were rolling decent. Played from the back tees and thought the par 4s and 3s were solid lengths. One really long par 3 (230). 2 of the par 5s played like par 4s. Had 5 iron into both of them after decent drives. They do a good job of changing hole layouts. The only holes that look the same are 5 and 7. Fairways are in good shape. Tee boxes are awful with massive weeds growing everywhere. If you try to hit a wood or iron off the tee, good luck with your club grabbing all the weeds. You might as well be hitting out of rough. Greens are also horrible as they are sloped like crazy but roll as true as saying Jeffery Epstein you know what. There is also no collar around the greens, so you go from the tall fairway grass to the short greens with no buffer. You can predict a putt out there about as horrible as Louis the worst weatherman of all time. The bounces you get on those greens are as cold as a glass of water in a cast iron skillet on the backside of an iceberg. As a junior, I played for 32 bucks and it still wasn't really worth it. I can play at Woodlands Country Club, Willow Creek, The Oaks, Panther, Lake Windcrest, and other courses out there for a much better value. Heck, River Plantation is probably in better condition and Harvey hit that course like Katrina hit New Orleans.

Amazing Experience

Everything about the place was incredible. When we got there, the staff greeted us with a smile and put our bags on the cart. The carts were really nice with an automatic brake and went really fast. Our forecaddie watched us intently on the range and tried his best to see our misses just during the 20 minutes on the range. The range had well placed targets and was very pure with very fresh looking Titleist ProV1s. The putting green was so pure and rolled so well I thought there was no way the course could be as good, but the course rolled just as well if not better.
Now on to the course. For an advanced golfer, the first 4 holes are all easy, with two par 5s creating great birdie opportunities.Hole 5 really gives you a slap in the face. A 465 yard par 4 with water right and OB left off the tee, water short and right of the green. And to top it all off, a green with many huge and challenging slopes. The greens out here are so impressive how much they slope yet how little times you think it is stupid. If you get a good read, the ball will roll on that line. The slopes are placed well to where no putt is impossible to get close, even with the speedy greens. 6, 7, and 8 are really fun holes. 6 is a short(ish) par 3 with two tiers on the green. 7 is a beautiful drivable par 4, and 8 is a fun little par 4 with lots of slope in the fairway. 9 is a long par 3 (played 240 into the wind today). 10 is another difficult par 4, Water left off the tee and by the green. OB right on the tee and curving to the left makes this a fantastic challenging hole. 11 and 12 are great birdie opportunities with a par 5 and a 360 par 4. 13 is a difficult driving hole with bunkers on each side of the fairway. The approach shot plays uphill a good bit and isn't easy either. The finishing stretch out here is absolutely amazing. 14 is a fun par 3 with an awesome green with 3 tiers. 15 is a beast. 500+ yard par 4 followed by 16 a 200+ yard par 3 followed by 17, a 550 par 5 with 9 bunkers, all being good sized, guarding the fairway and green. A very tough hole to hit in 2 with the shallow green. 18 is one of the best finishing holes I've ever played. A beautiful view of the clubhouse, and when I played, the sunset. The farther you hit it, the more water comes in to play down the right side. The approach shot plays slightly uphill and the green has a left and a right tier. In my opinion, the best golf experience in Texas. Right up there with Whispering Pines. The only ones that compare are Carlton Woods Nicklaus, Bluejack, Champions, Trinity Forest, and Austin CC.

Greens are horrendous

Battleground GC officially has the worst greens I have ever played. There were burn marks through the middle of the greens, holes that made it look like a battleground. I saw a police chase with a man hanging onto the front windshield of a Jeep happen while on 4 green. Fairways are way too firm, and water is placed in awful spots. Range had no balls and when I asked staff if they could go pick the range they didn't. Food is only thing there not below average. Food is average. I played in a high school tournament here. Course is fairly easy and short. The terrible green condition makes it very hard to make putts outside of 5 feet and which makes it hard to make birdies, even with the short layout. I shot 74-74. I am a scratch and played fairly average.
