Towne Lake Hills Golf Club
Played On 05/06/2021Course in Great Shape!
This course was in great shape, even considering that it got hit with six inches of rain three days ago.. Greens were perfect and rolled true. Pace of play was good, never once saw the group behind us, and I was in a foursome. The beverage cart carries liquor, what else can a guy ask for?
The Amelia River Club
Played On 05/31/2018Great Course
This is a well designed challenging course. It is a bit pricey, but it is located in a popular vacation destination, so that was to be expected. Some holes have wide open fairways where you can let loose, and others are tight where you have to make some strategic decisions. Water hazards abound and there are some large bunkers to be weary of. Large Oaks are all over the course which add to the lurking hazards. Greens were large and soft and rolled true.
The course is located next to the airport, so you get watch the planes take of and land which you don't see everyday. Only complaint is that there is no beverage cart. It gets hot on this island, so come pre-hydrated.
Governor's Towne Club
Played On 03/23/2018A well maintainted challenging course
I played this course on a Friday afternoon. Pace of play was great, not a lot of players were out there. It is a long course with wide fairways, huge bunkers with that dense soft powdery sand, and cleaned out tree lines so you can find your ball on errant drives and play from the pine straw.
The greens are ridiculously tough. Its like putting on glass. The greens are so fast, it gets rather frustrating and detracts from the enjoyment of your round. I hit a 20ft putt on the 16th green that missed the cup 5 in. left, rolled 2 ft. past the hole, caught a ridge, rolled 30 ft. down the green, then off the green and down a hill into a lake! Yep. I putted into a water hazard. It was a first for me. We had to put my playing partner at the bottom of the hill, b/c every drop just rolled back down the hill towards the water. These greens might be good for players practicing for the U.S. Open, but for us armatures, I feel its unnecessary.
Pro shop was nice, I didn't eat anything. They have bag service, and I saw the beverage cart about every 3 holes or so, that is major plus on hot southern afternoons.
The layout and design are fantastic. Great variety of holes. There is one short par-3 and a couple long ones. There is a driveable par 4 (10th) and some straight forward par-5s and some complicated ones.
I would definitely play there again

This has been my "go- to leave work early and play a quick weekday afternoon round" course for several years now. And it has usually been pretty run down. But not anymore. There has been a lot of money invested into making this course nice. It's very well-maintained, the tee boxes and fairways are clean-cut, in the greens are soft and roll beautifully. Much of the undergrowth has been cleared out from the woods and there is fresh new soft sand in the bunkers.
The course is easy, which means it is fun. It is not challenging or frustrating at all. Pace of play on the weekdays is fine. Probably because it's mostly par threes and people don't spend a lot of time in the woods looking for golf balls. The best part is the price point is still the same as it was when this course was garbage. This is a great course to walk. Green to Tee is very short distances.
Wolf Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/28/2017Course is playing well
Played at 7:50 on a Saturday. Just a two-some with a buddy of mine. 1st hole we were behind a 4some that took 21 minutes to play the 1st hole. So we skipped the second hole and got in front of them. From then on the pace was perfect, we played in 3.5 hours. Tee boxes and Fairways were beautiful (which is hard to achieve in a hot dry August like we are having). The greens are pretty beat up. Really beat up. They look like they have chicken pox. The people who play this course simply don't repair their ball marks. I don't know why players opt to not repair the marks on this particular course, but the greens are just littered with ball marks. My putts skipped and hopped all over the place. Other than that, course is in great shape.
Fox Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/23/2017Foxcreek has turned into a nice golf course again
They have put a lot of work into renovating this golf course and it shows. I have been playing this course several times a year for over a decade and it used to be a dump, but it is quite nice now. The greens are in great shape, there is a new sand in the bunkers, and the wooded areas have been cleaned of all the underbrush and garbage that prevent you from finding wayward Tee shots. However, this golf course is still dangerous. There are a lot of beginners out there, and the holes often run adjacent to one another with little wooded buffer between them. Be prepared to take cover a few times.
Cobblestone Golf Course
Played On 04/21/2017Beautiful challenging course
This course is a lot of fun and very picturesque. It's challenging and somewhat technical so choose your shots wisely. It's a good value and the course is always in good shape. In the spring time, you may want to call to check when they punch the greens, it's not always shown on the website. I have played here multiple times and have never had an issue with pace of play. usually golf weekday mornings
Chechessee Creek Club
Played On 04/14/2017This is a fantastic golf course
I played this course in mid April and it was in great shape. This course is fun but it is very challenging to play. Elevated greens make for some interesting chipping decisions if you miss the green. The amenities are top notch and the caddies are knowledgeable and personable. I don't think members of the public can play here. I knew a member and played as a guest
RiverPines Golf Course
Played On 07/26/2015Beautiful Course, Horrible Management
This is a beautiful, well maintained, fun layout golf course which runs along the Chattahoochee River, but its not very much fun to play.
I played with 2 of my golf buddies and we had a 9:40 tee time. The golf carts have a card on the windshield with your tee time. We were in the cart that said 9:40 and next to us was a cart with a card that said 9:48. We get to the tee about 9:30ish and the group ahead of us was teeing off. When they were in the fairway, we pulled up and started getting ready when the starter told us to stop, there is another group coming. We wait about 5 minutes for a 4 some with a card that read "9:40+" on their cart. This was obviously a 4 some the course took on to make some extra $ and screw up the pace of play for everybody else that morning.
We sat on every tee box for at least 5 minutes. Often times we got to hang out with the people waiting behind us, it was that bad. To top it all off, the course is REALLY concerned about pace of play. So much so, that they have clocks all over the course and little computers in the cart that tell you how far off the pace you are and that you need to play faster. So while we are on the tee box for 10 minutes waiting to tee off, the little computer is just rubbing it in how slow things are going.
This is the kind of stuff that makes golf not enjoyable. Im not even going to talk about the beverage cart that drove right by us and never bothered to stop. That was just straight up rude.
If this course could focus on the quality of rounds played rather than the quantity of golfers it puts on the course, it would be an exceptionally great place to play.
Towne Lake Hills Golf Club
Played On 07/25/2015Great Course at a Great Value
This is a well maintained, well managed course. I have played here a dozen or so times and is by far one of my favorite public plays in metro Atlanta. Pace of play is consistently good, course is always in fantastic shape (however, I do wish they would let us know on the website when the greens are aerated) and it is overall a fun place to play golf.
The design of the course is pretty forgiving. Many fairways funnel to the center and several of the greens have backboards for errant approaches. There are some tight dogleg tee shots, so your ability to shape shots will be tested. No.18 is par-5 with a no-line of sight uphill second shot. Coming in is a challenge.
Sea Palms Golf & Tennis Resort
Played On 07/24/2015A Friendly Course to Play
This course is very scenic, set in the Maritime forest on Saint Simons. Sounds of the birds and cicadas made for a pleasant experience.
I arrived early for my morning tee time and learned that the pro shop only sells crackers and candy. No coffee. Also, the driving range is a three hole, five minute drive from the pro shop. Range balls sold separately. They did not pair me up with anybody, they sent me off behind another solo player whom I caught up with on the second hole and learned we were behind several foursomes. I still can't fathom why they didn't send me to tee off of the 10th hole. This made for a 4:45 round of golf.
There was also no beverage cart. There are water coolers located frequently throughout the course which was great because it was very hot, but there was no cart that came around offering adult beverages or Gatorade's etc.
The course was well maintained and clean with tight fairways and thick but playable rough. Water is in play on a lot of holes and layout made for a fun but challenging round of golf.

Omni Amelia Island Resort - Ocean Links
Played On 06/20/2015Beautiful Challenging Course
I would recommend anybody play this golf course. Very scenic with several holes running along the coastline in the dunes. it's a little shorter than the courses I am use to playing so I played from the tournament tees, which made for challenging tee shots and also a much more scenic vantage point. The course was very well-maintained with clean fairways and thick, yet playable rough. The greens were very small but friendly and kept your ball on them. I don't remember there being any false fronts or any of them being on a large crown.staff is friendly and the beverage cart passed us three times. It was hot, but all the water coolers full of cold water. very reasonable price for the caliber of the course.
