About

I really enjoy the game - especially scrambles. The team can compensate for my deficiencies.
I like long, traditional courses that are more mature and have wider fairways that are more forgiving. I do not mind a little roll to them. I strongly dislike the courses where there are no flat lies anywhere and I generally don't care for links style or tight courses.
The more par 5s the better. If I can hit driver off the tee, I am happy. Zero confidence though from 130 and in - too many squandered drives. I would like to increase the draws and reduce the hooks as a right handed golfer. Everything goes left for me over the past 4 years, before that it was a wicked slice for over 15 years.
Also, I like a lot of character and variety within a course. Fast greens work better for me and I like more water than sand on a course as long as it drains well and quickly following rain.

Waited on slower players ahead almost every single shot

Gorgeous day - course was in good shape for there - the greens are typically very slow but decent for time of year. Few golfers fix ball marks there. Frustrating to be unable to get into playing rhythm with waiting in groups ahead on almost every shot. Slow play needs managed better at this course and too many in the area as welll.

By a housing development & woods

While it has potential - they need a marshall there as anything goes seemingly. Very different plus inconsistent feels & conditions throughout the course. A bit of Jekyll & Hyde going on there with some of course being by housing development which I dislike a lot & lowlands by woods - very wet. I would say give it shot if you just into spring more. Felt like I may have caught them earlier than it should have been conditions wise for the early season/off season cusp. Drainage is an issue in too much of the course. Not feeling it is worth the over an hour trip to go back there.

Off season

To be fair, it is off season. There were some things that were not in the best of shape & hole #2 rerouting was a nightmare and not safe to have carts on public roads with speeding motorists for that distance and that long! Also, the first par 3 having a temporary tee at this point in the year with some of these temperatures seems like overkill as a precaution and it detracts from one of the most enjoyable holes on the course despite its short distance. The course needs new cart paths and has for a long time. The condition of the cart paths is terrible & does not add to the charm nor the experience of the course! Conditions on the course need some material attention for in season rates to be justifiable.

In very good shape

Even better than some years, the course is in good shape. Still too many land mines on the greens that golfers do not repair but that is true everywhere on public courses in PA. The Marshall should be out more with so many female groups playing in a row as they were not at all moving along as the starter stated they would.
Most notable improvement needs to be quality and consistency of bunker sand. I am not usually in them that often and these were inconsistent in depth, type of sand and quality of sand. Get some soft new sand guys.

Greens rolled very true as always. They felt like they rolled at about a 9 to 10. Fairways and tees were in very good shape. Course looked better than I have seen it the past 3-5 years. I get there 1-3 times per year on average.

Snack shed at turn needs to have hot sausages by mid afternoon. Those ladies are always friendly and are the most friendly of the staff there. The guys in the clubhouse are friendly too.

I wish this was closer to Hershey than it is or I would play it regularly. Love the course!!!!

Good warmup round for down here

Interesting executive layout and I birdied the 18th so reason enough to return. Good place to knock the rust off plus get used to the speed of the greens down here knowing they can and will get much faster. Also the rough is different by a mile than in PA so that was good to adjust there as well. Enough challenge when you do not really know the course and you can score on the short par 4s there and get really pressed for par on the par 3s with all of the undulating greens. Might have to make this my first round destination every time we are down here. Enjoy!

Needs some work - will give it a few more weeks

Greens need some work and we had a moderate winter (neither heavy nor light). I get that it is very early and all - just needs some more TLC for the spring and early part of the main season. The sand traps are atrocious as they need to take out all of the pebbles and put actual sand that is softer and not so silty in them.
If you are not going to take care of the traps, then make them grass bunkers more like Deer Valley has done and consider making the greens smaller and then take better care of them. Fairways and tees were fair.
The staff is great! The views are great! Tournaments here are the best!!!!
I would like to see the green redone on #14. It is like a trampoline. I too often hit just short of the green from about 180-190 out and it still runs all the way through the green and I hit the front of the green today and it still went all the way through the green and it is a long one. It ended up at 204 and that club should not do that.

Last played it around 20 years ago

I played here when it was Harrisburg North around 20 years ago. It was in much better condition then. Lack of rain considered, the greens were in decent shape and the fairways were fair with some issues. The sand in the bunkers needs redone/new sand and they might as well turn some into grass bunkers and save on maintenance costs.
The rough was mostly dormant or possibly dead grasses too all super dried out. There was no one managing the pace of play on a day the club tournament was going on. I experienced a great deal of waiting on the back nine so course management in terms of pace of play was poor frankly. It is too far out of the way with better courses in the area to come from Hershey so I will not likely go back unless a spring or fall tournament took me there and even then I would probably not return.

Still love playing there

Love this course. It is a fair test and greens roll true and are very consistent. Marshall is needed as we waited on every shot for every hole so a Ranger and pace of play was a big issue for a tee time after 4 PM.
Sand could have been in better shape and more consistent and other than that it is in very good shape for time of year and the lack of rain in periods this summer.
Great value! Totally worth the drive from Hershey.

Really enjoyed the round - weather helped

Consistently good conditions. Fair and challenging - wish the greens were a couple notches faster.
Shot par on all of the par 3s today. Still want to see some specific trees cut down on 10 on the right.
The course is a little tight off the tee but I never felt overly so. The greens are very firm since we need rain and still hold fairly well all things considered.

Great conditions except for sand and they just got hammered with a lot of rain overnight.

Conditions great. Love coming to this course - shame it is that far away from Hershey. Great greens rolling true and fair and fast without being glass. Fair test with varied holes and good pace of play.
Check in people are all very nice. Pin placement 9 was tough on some holes. Gotta get more guys that I normally golf with up there.

Cut and roll the greens please

The greens were in good shape and just needed a haircut and a roll badly! VERY SLOW putting especially after having just played Galen Hall the same day.
It was like putting on plush carpet.
Again, the course was in good shape. I got paired up with three older gentlemen and one was supremely annoying and another played very slowly so it drug out longer than it should which is not the courses’ fault at all.
The fairways were nice. Tee boxes are starting to wear in some spots earlier than expected. Still love the course and I just wish they did not have some of the slowest greens in the region. Cannot wait to get a lager draft there when this when we go green.

Loved how fast the greens were today

The greens were fast and the course was not overly for once. Really enjoyed myself and I played the best I ever played there especially putting. Birdied 18 which I do not believe I had done there before. Shot Par on 17 and so I got into a grove on the back comparatively. Forgot some of my yardages on. 2-3 holes and picked the wrong clubs. It was a beautiful day out too! Lot of fun!!!!

First time playing here since this opened about 20 years ago

I have not played this course for about 20 years or so when it first opened. I had very little recall on this course. The conditions were excellent overall!
The greens were very fast almost like putting on marble. The only significant downside was that the pin placements were nigh impossible!!!! It was like a greenskeepers’ revenge kind of level or worse! Many times holding the greens in places or unless the putt is perfect it has zero shot of going in.
Yes, I put myself in some bad spots because of stuff I could not see from where I was with some blind shots and just not recalling certain things being there from that long ago.
This course is very challenging and some parts of this test are rather unfair. Still, it was in terrific shape and I enjoyed playing in great weather on a beautiful day and the staff was incredibly friendly!!!! I am headed back there with some work buddies in two days in the AM. I bet my score comes down a bit with the change in strategy on some holes.
This is really a good test for those with a handicap of 10 or lower. For higher handicappers like me it is a grind. Still glad I went.

Land mines abound

This is not on the course but the patrons instead. Every single green was filled with land mines (not fixed ball marks)! It was horrendous!
I fixed five of them within four feet of my ball and the other guys in our group did at least 2-3 each on our part of the green within a 15 foot radius of the flag on the first hole. This course needs a Marshall out more for a number of reasons.
We did not ourselves play as fast as I would have preferred and any round here that does not take 5 hours plus to play feels like a miracle as they tend to overbook.
They have some new sand out in some of the bunkers on a few holes and I hope they get more new sand in to do it right after cleaning up the base sand layers first. It would really go a long way to improving conditions here green side.
It was not windy there for once and the day had exceptional weather overall. There are some tarps in parts of tees and one whole par 5 green is temporary and I cannot say that I am sad to see that green re-imagined.
The fairways were in good shape and their needs to be divot mix put out to fix divots so that seemed behind for how nice the weather has consistently been this off season. Aside from the ball marks, the greens do not roll consistently there and it is early.

Very friendly and helpful staff

Bill and his dog are both excellent! The staff is friendly and they all try to be helpful.
No sand on the course helps scoring and pace of play. I went out solo today and was not held up at all which is always great to do a sub 3 hour round but do not expect that as the good weather days become more numerous.
The greens there are crazy slow making it hard to adjust to playing elsewhere if you play here with any frequency. The course drains well overall. They do a good job with fairways, tee boxes and greens especially considering how value conscious their core customer is. The greens rolled a little better after Bill either cut or rolled them on the back nine ahead of me.
Barring imbalanced weather, their turf should be in very good shape as they have really worked hard to take advantage of the opportunities of a more mild winter.

Over hyped for quality of greens

I strongly dislike the 18th hole. Also, I was impressed with the fact that golfers there do a better job than most courses fixing ball marks on the greens.
I had heard from so many golfers that those greens are the best in York County and I have to disagree significantly. They over-hyped those greens. Nothing egregiously wrong with them and they are just not all that. They are slower than I expected even adjusting for the time of year and significant rain in the area lately.
The staff was nice and pace of play could have been better as could the course’s drainage. Good value because the Hot Deal was $15.

Decent place and a strong value for $15 today

Played with a buddy today and it was the first time there for both of us. Granted it is February and it was wet. Still, considering the many people that bragged on their greens, I was not impressed with how slow they were and they are rather largeWhich does not make them special. They are NOT the nicest greens in York county so it did not live up to the hype is what I am saying.
Great value for $15 for mid February for sure thanks to GolfNow! Hated the 18th hole. I would rather finish on the 9th. Liked the par 5s especially the first one which I parred after burning the edge on a birdie putt.
Cannot say that I would want to play in a scramble there per day nor feel excitement in taking a foursome there. Perhaps I will give them another shot in late May if not too wet since the last few years we have had more rain than Seattle I think which is crazy. Rather have rain than snow for sure.

Greens recently punched

I love this course and would rather play here than many country clubs in the area that I have played. This is my favorite course to play in Southcentral PA.
Today, I was a significantly disappointed to pay $40 for this round in the off season and we were given no warning that all the greens had been punched (aerated). I prefer core aeration anyway for best turf results. These greens were punched in very inconsistent patterns too which was interesting. It also made it unusually inconsistent to putt on for this course which it usually is very consistent in quality and speed.
This was the one place in the area among public courses where the greens were repaired by players and not so today. Very poor care shown by those players recently playing there on the greens. For Winter, tees and fairways in good shape. Greens were fuzzy and perhaps due to crowns and the root structure here over fly ash that is best to leave it a little longer. Just inconsistent. Hopefully, it turns around by April.
Also, the exchange with an employee that could not wait the 5 seconds until I tied my last sneaker before I moved my cart out of a parking space beside the vehicle we came in was irksome. This showed his age and sense of self importance over customers. There were plenty of other spaces but he had to have that one. Not impressed with his lack of consideration and patience for a customer. I will say in fairness that he was kind enough to jump start a members car right before that.
Overall, this was the worst experience here by far in the past 4-5 years of coming here. Again, I look forward to a much better environment here in early April.

Glad we got the last round in a while in. No drainage - needs to dry out

Glad to sneak this last round in before the closed due to COVID-19. The course was a swamp - drainage system needs an overhaul. Not that wet lately for so much standing water and poor conditions. Greens were crazy inconsistent in speed too. Paid $20 so it was an average value.
Who knows when the next round will be for any of us. It seems like our Governor is enforcing the closures now very vigilantly and probably for good reason. Hopefully we can check the course out again in May or June.

Course is in good shape

For the amount of recent rain, the greens were surprisingly fast and harder than expected. This is a course to hit shots to specific spots because it is not long. Trees are penal so plan on clubbing down off the tee on 3-4 holes in your round for a better score. Of course I always tell myself to do that and never do it so next time I go there, I will have to try it even if I did stripe my driver basically the whole round.
The course should be in excellent shape as far as greens and fairways go in spring.
