Castle Bay Country Club
Played On 07/18/2020Above average and great value
Course was is excellent condition, very challenging layout but with plenty of opportunities to score low if you stay in the fairway. Definitely windy as you expect on links courses so be prepared to make club adjustments to compensate. Layout of this course has long stretches between holes so if you plan to walk, be sure to take that into consideration. The practice range leaves much to be desired; by far the worst part of the course. Overall: an above average course with great value.
Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University
Played On 02/13/2018Amazing deal
This course is known around the triangle as one of the most pristine public courses in the area. Great staff and fantastic amenities made my first time playing this course one to remember, even if the weather wasn’t cooperative. Hands down one of the most challenging courses I’ve played from the tips at ~7300 yds. The course offers wide fairways with well placed bunkers that makes you think about your shots. Greens were slow as expected in February but still in great shape considering the very wet weather of late. An unbelievable value with the hot deal price nonetheless. Looking forward to playing this course again during the peak season!
The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club
Played On 02/01/2018Course was a bit muddy in places but typical following several weather fronts having just pushed through. Staff was excellent and generous and accommodated my need to tee off early. Greens were still fairly firm and in relatively good shape for mid-winter. For the hot-deal price, it’s a great deal for a challenging course.
Crossings at Grove Park, The
Played On 01/27/2018Not too terrible for January.
The course was in decent shape considering the 12” of snowfall it received the week before. Course layout forces irons off of almost every tee but if you’re in the fairways, scores can be low. Pace of play can be an issue if there isn’t a ranger to speed things along. Regular rates are a little overpriced for off-season and current course conditions. Overall average.
Crossings at Grove Park, The
Played On 07/27/2017The course was in fairly good shape. The biggest disappointment would be lacking a range for warming up. The greens were extremely soft and most iron shots resulted in a plugged ball. Course is extremely short, be prepared to leave the driver in the bag. Overall, great course to score low!
